A Different Saturday

This day didn't turn out like I thought.

Bob and I had intended to have breakfast and then go to Joplin to eat at Olive Garden

Instead he had an incident of A-Fib this morning.  His heart was beating between 150 and 170 beats a minute and he had chest pain and a sore lower jaw when he called me and asked me to take him to the emergency room. His physician had recently changed his blood pressure medicine to a blood pressure medicine that did not regulate his heartbeat too.  He had had an incident of A-Fib two years ago and then doctor he had then had started that good med.. The latest new one was supposed to have also treated his essential tremor but it did not regulate his heartbeat. .
He had been on this new med less then two weeks when this incident happened this morning. It took them several hours to get his heart regulated and his chest pain gone. He was in ICU until about 4:00 this afternoon. He is now in the hospital in a room.  His doctor came into ICU after noon and examined him and wants him to stay in the hospital for some additional tests. His regular heartbeat is around 40 beats per minute and the doctor wants it to be 60. He says 40 is way too low and dangerous. He may have blood clots.
He is fine now but will be in the hospital for those additional tests.
I just thought those of you who are my blogging friends would like to know and pray for him.

Many thanks for your happy thoughts and prayers.

Foggy Friday

This was a foggy day. I left at 6:10 to drive to Independence for my hair appointment and to go to Wal Mart there. I drove very slowly on the way until I got a mile or so north of Dearing when it finally cleared up somewhat.

I got home just in time to go to exercise class. Afterward  we had cake to celebrate Pauline's 88th birthday . She looks great for her age. She is the leader of the exercise class.

Since I had not had time to start the roast I had in the freezer for lunch. I stopped at the market before we came home and I got some pork chops to have for lunch.  .

After that, we came back to the apartments and I started dinner. We had our pork chops and mashed potatoes, gravy, coleslaw, and peas. We had a cupcake for dessert.

My son, Scott called me this noontime while I was fixing lunch. We had a very nice visit on the phone. We talked about thirty minutes.

I  tried to take a nap this afternoon but just couldn't go to sleep.  I even read awhile.

I am watching CNN now with David Menasche, former teacher of 16 years... telling about his dying days.  He has less then a year to live. He met with his former students through the social media and they loved him enough to see that he got to visit with them before he dies.   Remarkable story.

This Chris Christie story about the shutting down of the bridge in New Jersey is developing today too. Personally, I don't believe Christie is innocent in this affair.  I really believe it was his doing.  I was considering voting for him if he runs for president in 2016. So what comes out about his involvement is important to me.

I believe Bob and I will go to either Joplin or Owasso tomorrow to eat at Olive Garden.  The weather is to be nice.

More later....

A Colder Thursday

It's colder this morning (30degrees F) but so far the only precipitation we have received is a little misty rain...no snow yet. It is supposed to warm up a bit this week though.

Bob came over for an hour or so last night but after watching a few episodes of The Big Bang Theory, we couldn't find anything else to watch. The Nature program on PBS was one we had already seen.  He ended up just going home to read.

I took my bath and went to bed about 8:30 last night after he left. For some reason I was really tired and I couldn't find anything interesting to watch on TV. I didn't feel like reading that late. That just makes me sleepier. I awoke at 2:30 AM but got right back to sleep. I slept until 5:30. I got up and did my makeup and dressed and put some biscuits  in the oven and made a pot of coffee.

Missy seems to be feeling better. A couple of days this week she seemed not quite herself and was not eating much. She has found a new place to sleep...on the daybed in the den. She disappears  for hours at a time and that's where I have found her every time.

I don't know what I will do today...it's so messy out. I may do some laundry and more cleaning. I could get back to one of the three books I'm reading on my kindle.

I got my car insurance paid yesterday afternoon. That's that big bill for six months. That took a chunk out of my savings.  The car is an '08 Honda and I didn't expect it to be so expensive to insure it but it's been years since I've had a car payment too and I only carried liability on the '01 Honda I sold to Denise and Terry.

I've decided I really like my new  coverlet. It is a little heavier then the last two and the color looks really good in the bedroom with that brown and tan tweed short shag. Now I must stop spending money. :)

A Warmer Wednesday

Well, at least temporarily it's warmer this morning. It's 31 degrees F now at 6:30 in the morning.  But we are forecast for freezing rain changing to snow this afternoon.  I'm sure not ready for that.

I got my hair done yesterday morning after I delivered the cakes. Then I met Leslie for lunch. It was a good though expensive lunch.  We ate at the Railroad Inn. We both like their fried ravioli. Afterward I came back home and soon after that, my new coverlet was delivered. Now my bed is really dressed. It has a new topper and a new coverlet.  I think I'm finished spending money now. Next my car insurance is due and that will be very expensive with full coverage. I will try to get that paid right away.

Today I hope to go to exercise class. It's been from before Christmas since we've met for exercise class. Monday was so cold and messy that they cancelled it.  It may be cancelled this Friday too.

I hope to go to Independence, Missouri, the end of the month for Restoration Studies Symposium but I don't know what to make of the weather.  I don't know at this point what to expect for driving three hours north. ...by myself too. I'll just have to wait and see when it's closer to the dates.

I will make swiss steak for lunch. We will have boiled potatoes with it and veggies with it. Bob will bring a salad of some sort. I have cupcakes for dessert.

More later....

The plan was changed. Bob wanted to go to Independence and at mini pizzas at Big Cheese so we will have today's lunch tomorrow.

This evening Bob came over for an hour and we watched The Big Bang Theory. We had both seen the Nature program on PBS so he went home to read and I took my bath and put my pj's on and played solitaire on the laptop and watched the weather channel. It is misting outside now. It may snow when it cools down a little more.  .

Another Freezing Tuesday

It's very cold here at 6 degrees F and we're under a wind chill advisory.  But it's warmer then yesterday's -4. It's supposed to get up to 40 today but we're to get freezing rain and snow tomorrow.

I don't like winter! I have to drive up to Independence this morning to deliver six cakes to the Christian Church there. While I'm there, I'll meet my daughter for lunch. Bob will be on his own today for lunch.

We cancelled church on Sunday too. Our church is in the country with impassable county roads leading to it.

I wonder if the pipes there are o.k.  Maybe I should stop on the way back and check.

I baked my two cakes yesterday afternoon and iced them this morning.  I tried out my mattress topper last night and I'm not sure it made any difference.  It made my bed taller though and easier to get out of. :)

I picked up my class newsletter at the printer's yesterday afternoon. It would have probably just laid there indefinitely until I called I guess. They did not want to fold it. They said it was too "labor intensive".  I paid for it and took it home. I had nothing much else to do except bake my two cakes so I folded, stamped and stuffed 153 class newsletters and drove over to Dearing (three miles west) and put them in the mail. It was clear in spots but I drove pretty slowly anyhow.

Bob came over last evening and we watched TV until 8:00. After he went home I took my bath and put my pjs on and stayed up until 9:00. I slept pretty well.  I do need some exercise though. I get stiff from so much sitting around.

Brrrrr..It's A Cold Monday

It's -4 this morning in southeast Kansas. I don't recall it being this cold in years. Furthermore, it's breezy.  That makes it even worse. I let Missy out awhile ago.  She didn't stay out long before she was standing up at the storm door window wanting back in the house.

I'll bet the senior center won't be open today. I can't imagine any of us getting out in -4 degree weather to do exercises. The high is only supposed to be 17 today. Strange, tomorrow is supposed to be 43 degrees and later in the week it's to warm up to 50 degrees. Amazing...but this is Kansas.

I did postpone the Living the Questions group. I called the Coffeyville group and e-mailed Mona. Then I decided I had better call her. They come from rural Cherryvale and I sure didn't want them to come clear over here only to find I had postponed and had not called them.

I hope I will be able to go to Independence to get my hair done tomorrow. It's supposed to be much warmer tomorrow and perhaps they will have the county road scraped. If they have the dinner tomorrow evening, they will need cakes. It's our week...wouldn't you know.  I will bake my two this afternoon.

Bob came over last evening and watched TV with me until 8:00. When he left I took my bath and put my pj's on but I only stayed up until 9:00. I slept really well too.

More later.....

I received my new mattress topper today and I put it on my bed. It will be interesting to see if that helps me to sleep better and with less arm pain.

I have also ordered a new coverlet and pillow covers and they should be here tomorrow.  It will be brown and tan and will look better with my brown tweed short shag carpet in the bedroom.

I spent a lot of time today folding the class newsletter into thirds and stuffing and stamping 153 letters. I got them in the mail and then baked my two cakes for tomorrow' dinner in  Independence. Bobby brought Karan's over and Phyllis brought hers over.  Bob still has his over there at his apartment. I have to ice mine in the morning. I also made some cupcakes for our lunch desserts.

Tomorrow I'm taking my old coverlet up to have it laundered in Independence at Wash and Fluff  and then I will put it away. for another day.

Snowy Sunday

Well, I didn't think it was going to snow last night. When I went to bed at 10:00, it hadn't done anything. But this morning when I looked out, it looked like three inches. It will be slick. I imagine they will call off church again. Our church is in the country nine miles out and on a county road. The road will not be cleared and it will be slick. Furthermore, we have people who come from 30 miles away. Our congregation is scattered. I have e-mailed my daughter who is the take charge person of our three pastors and when she waked up and looks out she will have to contact the others and  they will make the decision. It is 15 degrees out there now and with the wind chill it's -15.

I just had a feeling we were going to have a very cold snowy winter this year. The last time we had one of these was in 2010, right after Bob died.

I will stay in and read. I slept pretty well last night although my arms did hurt some. I think I will take an Aleve this morning.  I may make chili for lunch today. We surely will not get out to eat out.

More later....it's just 6:00 AM now.

I did make chili this noon and I also cancelled the Living the Questions group for this evening. We postponed it till  next Sunday. Maybe the weather will be better by then.

I took a nap this afternoon and ate a bowl of ice cream later on.  I will watch 60 Minutes this evening.  I haven't been out of the apartment today.
