Terrible News From Florida on Saturday Morning

I heard from, Scott, about 4:30 this morning. that they are safe but the house is a mess. The inside of the house is soaking wet. Lost lots of shingles on top of the roof, which caused the roof to leak lots of damage. Furniture is pushed around to dry areas in hopes to stop damage there. It's a brand new house. They just moved in this spring.

The insurance adjuster will be there on Tuesday. He says the whole upstairs is ruined and that includes the walls. They lost a lot of shingles and that was what caused some of the damage. The rest of the water came through the glass windows and sliding glass doors. He has gone back to bed now to try to get some sleep. They have no power. Until the sun comes up he will not know the full extent of the damage.

I was so afraid of that. At least they are safe.

This the dock next door.

I doubt it will be repaired.

I went to Walmart and bought a few groceries and then to the bank for money.  Bob and I went to breakfast at Eggberts this morning and will be attending his family reunion later on this morning at Sirloin Stockade.

So more later....

We did attend the family reunion. My heart wasn't in it. I was still concerned about all Scott and Ginger have gone through.  But I went to the store to buy Juanita a birthday card this afternoon. Her 96th birthday is next Tuesday. I want to get her a box of chocolates for her birthday and I will do that on Tuesday when I go up there to get my hair done.

More even later....

Bob came over at 5:15 and stayed for the news. After he left I took a shower and washed my hair and sat with Missy in the recliner until 8:00. By then I just couldn't stay awake any longer. Missy and I went on to bed.

Friday and Exercise Class

I slept well again last night. Again, my arm did not hurt. Maybe it is finally going to heal. I will go to exercise class this morning but will be careful not to hurt the arm.  Afterward, we will go to Utopia for cinnamon rolls.

Missy is lying here on the floor at my feet waiting for me to get dressed and fix breakfast. I wanted to check my checking account first. I was hoping to get Keith's deposit today because Monday is Columbus Day and a holiday so it will be Tuesday now before I get any more money in my account. I don't get my social security until Wednesday.

I haven't turned on the weather yet so I don't know any more about the progress of hurricane Matthew.

More later...

Evidently the hurricane is not quite as formidable as previously thought. It took a small turn to the east as it entered Florida and the winds died down to 105 miles per hour. Now I understand they are back up to 120 mph. So far...so good. My kids are still safe.

A group from the exercise class went to Utopia for cinnamon rolls after exercise class. Karan and I had what they call a Utopiachino. It's made with coffee, flavoring, crushed ice and topped with whipped cream and caramel syrup. We get a large cup and a small cup and we freeze the small cup for a later treat. I also had a large cinnamon roll. (Undid all the good from the exercises...and then some)

We will eat lunch later today after that treat.  So more later....

We had our chicken tenders and boiled potatoes with gravy and salad and broccoli/cauliflower veggie for lunch.  Now I'm full. I took Missy out for awhile on the carport and combed her. She looks so much better and she loves to be combed.

We went around on the patio and I raked some leaves up. She wandered off so I picked her up and put her in the apartment. Boy was she mad! Serves her right! If she minds me, she gets to stay out. If she doesn't, she gets to come back in. Darn cat!

More later...

This is my son's back yard now that the hurricane is there.

Quite a different scene from before
.
This is "before".

 More later...

This is their neighbor's dock. It is now under water. The Community dock is gone and one more is merely holding on.

He says there are three to five foot waves in the river. Just like it was the ocean.

Some roof damage. One shingle off so far.

I hope that's the worst of the damage.

I spent a stressful afternoon. I took Missy out on the carport to comb her since she had been shedding badly. I laid my cell phone on the bumper of my neighbor's car there while I did that. After I finished, I went over to the patio to do some raking. When I returned to get my phone, she was gone...phone and all. I walked down to the corner to see if it had fallen off there and it had not. I finally decided to go to the office and have the phone access suspended so no one could use it if they found it. Then I waited for Jeannie to come home and I could ask her where all she had been.  When I learned that, I retraced her path. Still no phone. So I went back to the cell phone store and bought a new phone.

Unfortunately, I had lost all my contacts. So I began to try to reconstruct some of them using our congregation's directory. I had a lot more numbers but little by little I will get back the ones that are really important. In the meantime, I cancelled the other phone so they could black it out.

I was exhausted  but could not sleep for the stress of the afternoon. I took my bath and went to bed at 10:30. I took a Zzzquil capsule but that only helped until 2:00. I awoke again then and sleep was impossible.

Between worrying about Scott and Ginger's house and their well being in the hurricane Matthew storm and losing my phone, that was it.

Thursday and Housecleaning Day and Ministerial Alliance

I have been watching the development of the Hurricane Matthew. My son and his wife live in Yulee, Florida and that is near the eastern coast.  I have been concerned that they are not taking this terrible storm seriously.

I slept well last night. My arm is not hurting again this morning and did not hurt last night either. Missy wanted to go outside this morning at 7:00 but when she saw the rainstorm she changed her mind. She is not a happy kitty!

I will attend Ministerial Alliance at noon...if they don't cancel.  We are under flash flood warnings.

I got the apartment cleaned this morning. I will dust in the morning. I am tired right now. I got the bathroom and kitchen floors cleaned and washed and the apartment vacuumed.

More later....

I made my meeting in a lull in the storm.  We are still under flood warnings here.

More even later....

I watched the weather channel all afternoon to watch the progress of hurricane Matthew. and Bob came over after 5:00 to watch the news. When he went home just before 7:00 I took my bath and  Missy and I watched some TV until 9:00...when we went to bed.

Wednesday and Bunco

I slept well again last night. I woke up twice but managed to get back to sleep. Missy missed her litter box again this morning and wet on the mat under the box. I just washed it yesterday. Darn cat!

Today is exercise day again and this afternoon at 1:00, we play Bunco. I think I need to take a treat. I have cheese and crackers and I will take those. That is better then sweets.

My arm hurts less all the time. Perhaps it is finally healing. At least I am able to sleep now without a sleep aid of any kind.

It stormed in the night. Once when I woke up I heard thunder and lightening and rain.  We needed the rain. It may rain again today and tomorrow.

For lunch today, we will have warmed up leftover meatloaf and fried leftover potatoes, a veggie, Bob's salad, and then the pudding and cookies for dessert. Tomorrow, Bob will be on his own. I have Ministerial Alliance and lunch there. We will have chicken tenders on Friday with mashed potatoes and gravy, a veggie and a salad and mixed fruit and cookies for dessert.

More later....

Lunch went fine and I sent the leftover leftovers home with Bob for his lunch tomorrow when I will be gone.

I played Bunco this afternoon and won the door prize. $5.00. Every little bit helps. :) I am down to $12.00 until payday.

Tuesday and Cakes and Hair Day

I slept really well last night. It's about time! I got up at 5:00 and got ready for my day. I still have to get my breakfast and Missy's too. She is being patient this morning....so far.

I will pick up Bob at 8:20 and we will go to Independence to leave the cakes at the First Christian Church there. Then I will take Bob out to Betty's for his visit and go get my hair done. It really needs cutting. It's all out of shape.

Then at 11:00 we will go to Great China for lunch.  I'm not sure what I will do this afternoon. I cleaned the carpet in the car yesterday afternoon. I do need to wash my car but will wait and see what the weather is like since we are forecast for rain this evening and Wednesday and Thursday.

More later....

There was lots of wind all afternoon and I swept the carport four times and sacked up the leaves.

And I did go wash my car. It really needed it. It may not stay clean long out under a carport but at least it's clean now.

Hurricane Matthew is heading toward Florida. It should arrive by Thursday since it's hitting Cuba now. It is a category 4 hurricane. That's quite strong. My youngest son and his wife live at Yulee, Florida. That's just over the Georgia/Florida line near the eastern coast. .

There was nothing much on TV but the vice presidential candidate's debates and I wasn't interested in those.   So I took my bath and sat with Missy for awhile in the recliner and even worked the crossword puzzle in the paper and finally just gave up and went to bed early.

We have exercises tomorrow morning and afterward I will warm up the meatloaf and fry the leftover potatoes and cook a veggie. Bob will bring a salad and I still have pudding made up for dessert. And I still have cookies.

Monday and Bank Problems

Yesterday evening I started to check my bank account to see if there was enough money in there to pay my rent. They had had me change my password last week and so I put in the new password.  It was rejected. So I tried the old password. They locked me out of my bank account and wanted an "access ID". I had no idea what the access ID was so I tried several. It was no good. I was locked out. I was so aggravated. I know we have to change the password occasionally and that's why I write the new one down. I don't know why it didn't work. Now, in the morning, I will have to call the bank to get into my own account. How frustrating! I can't pay my rent until I am sure there is enough money in there. It is due before the 5th. I don't get my social security until the second Wednesday of the month and that's the 12th this month.

So even though I got right to sleep last night, I awoke in the night and started worrying about the bank account. I got up at 2:30 to try again. No good! I am still locked out. And I can't sleep because of my frustration.

Bob will be over early in the morning for me to write his rent checks. Then we have exercise class at 9:00.  I may have to forgo that this morning. I have too much to do.

Back to bed to try to sleep again.....

Hurricane approaching my son's new home. Look at that sky.

I hope this doesn't turn into a catastrophe on Wednesday or Thursday.

I got my mess worked out at the bank and later turned when I was able to access my accounts, I learned that I had been scammed by a company in Florida out of $79.95 I turned them in to our Attorney General. I had ordered a "trial" of a sleep aid and received it a week or so ago. The trial was  $4.95. Now they have charged me $79.95 for that "trial". I called them and read them the riot act. They told me to return it and they would refund my money. I sent it off this morning. Now I have to wait to see if they refund my $79.95. I have turned the company over to our Attorney General. We will see what happens.

I made meat loaf for lunch and we had boiled potatoes and broccoli with Bob's coleslaw. I had pudding for dessert. It was all good. I took some meatloaf to Marilyn R.  We had plenty.

Tomorrow I will get my hair cut. It is a mess. Bob will visit his sister, Betty, while I get that done and then we will eat at Great China.

Bob came over and watched the news with me. He left at 7:00 and I took my bath and got my p.j.'s on. I will try to stay up until 9:00.

Sunday and I Preside at Church

I did not sleep well last night. My right arm ached most of the night even though I took two Aleve before I went to bed. The Aleve just doesn't always cut it.  I had my flu shot on Friday and I asked the nurse to put it in the right arm. I sure didn't want both arms sore. Sure enough, the arm got sore but at least I was used to that one being sore.

I finally got up and dressed about 5:00 AM. I am ready for church now.  I will go feed Missy and myself next and then get the newspaper and read it before it gets light. She will want to go outside then.

Phyllis called last night. She is out of her boot now and went back to work yesterday. She wants to pick Bob and me up for church today. I told her that wasn't necessary but she wanted to pay us back for picking her up while her foot was in that boot and she could not drive.  I texted Bob about it and he agreed we needed to let her do that. We will probably let her drive us over to Cherryvale for lunch too. She is such a sweetheart.

I'd better got get our breakfasts. Missy is being very patient. More later...

We had our breakfast and I took her out briefly but it was chilly and she wanted back in very soon. I don't know how she will handle fall and winter after being used to going out this summer.

Church went fine and Phyllis and Bob and I went to Cherryvale to eat at "Just Us". Afterward Phyllis brought me home and I got the newsletters out and read the rest of the afternoon. Bob came over for the news and 60 Minutes and then went home. I took my bath and sat in the recliner with Missy until bedtime.
