Saturday and Another Look

I slept well last night although I stayed up later then usual.  I thought about that apartment in Caney again this morning and made a list of all the "againsts".  I knew the "fors" but I did need to consider the extra expense of moving again including a deposit on the apartment and deposits on all the utilities and the cost of mowing. So I will go over that list with Leslie after she sees the apartment.

Bob came over with his computer this morning and I ran it through a "tune up" with my Cox service plan.  That took care of all it needed. I explained about the Caney apartment with him. I also went through the "againsts" with him. It would be quite a lot of additional expense when you consider everything. I will just want to go through everything with Leslie and get her advice.

I will leave in about an hour to drive back over to Caney and pick up Nancy and we will meet Leslie at the apartment so she can see it.

Then this afternoon, I plan to go by the retirement party for my doctor. It's from 3:00PM till 5:00PM. I am not sure what I will do for a doctor. Living in Caney where there is no hospital, I could go to Independence to Melissa but then I would have to travel by ambulance to  Labette County Hospital at Parsons if I should have to go to a hospital for anything. That's another 30 miles from Independence. If I stay here in Coffeyville, where we have a good hospital,  I am about five blocks from our hospital. At 83, I have to consider all these options.

Back later...

I looked at the apartment again at Caney, this time with Leslie and Nancy saw it again with me. . Suzanne really wants me to take it. And I really like it. And it has a garage for my car! We were such great friends when I worked with her at Dr. Marsh's office back in the 70's.  She is doing everything possible to make it easier for me to move in there. She suggested I pay the deposit one month at a time for 5 months at $100. a month so I would not need to get into my savings.

After talking to Leslie while at Eggberts and Suzanne talking to the lady named Alice in the other side of the duplex about how large the utility bills run, I decided to take it. It is such a nice apartment.  I met Suzanne at the Kopco parking lot and gave her the rent check. She said she was not going to charge me for January because she knew I had already paid my rent where I am and she had me make out the check for February and then she gave me the keys. I didn't get the garage door opener yet because they had just changed the battery in the opener and Steve needed to check out if they were going to have to change the code it needs. I will get that after he has a chance to do that.

I came back home and went out to our Walmart to buy the banker boxes I will begin packing the small stuff in.  They no longer had them at our Walmart so I made a quick trip to Independence to buy ten of them. I got back home just in time to make Dr. Gillis' retirement reception. After staying about twenty minutes, I went home and assembled the boxes. Then I called Betty and offered to sell my frig, range and microwave oven to her for $600. She agreed to buy them. There are nice appliances at the Caney apartment. I will use them.

I never heard from Dustin, the mover. I had left him a message twice during the day to try to learn how much he would charge to move my 4 rooms of furniture to Caney.  I will worry about that later.

I took my bath at 7:00PM and watched some Amazon Prime TV until 9:00PM, when I went to bed. It had been a very big day!

Friday and Another Forgotten Date

I slept poorly last night. I awoke a couple of times but most unusually, I had trouble getting to sleep. I never have trouble getting to sleep since I am usually very tired before going to bed. Finally I took a Benadryl capsule. My sinus's were going crazy draining. That must have helped.

I actually got to sleep after going into the closet in the den and getting my stuffed Sharp Pei dog and taking it to bed with me. Somehow that was comforting and it reminded me of Slinky. I miss my cat, Missy, so much of the time anymore...especially in the evenings when she used to lie down with me on the sofa and watch TV. and at bedtime. She always slept with me.

Because it was so late before I got to sleep, I awoke late...almost 6:00AM. I had a date to meet with the Journal editor, Kim at Utopia at 8:00AM so I rushed around to get ready and get my breakfast over with. I got there about 5 minutes early. Again, she never showed up. I visited with Don, who works there,  for thirty minutes and finally left at 8:30AM. He wanted me to call her but she had made the date and she forgot last Friday too, so I wasn't going to trouble her again. I just came on home. I think I will go to Bartlesville today. It has been cold and I have stayed in quite a lot this week except for quick trips to the Dollar General store for odds and inns. I could use a break from that.

I really don't need a thing but I could have lunch and look around at the sales.  It would be a break from staying home.

So more later...

I called Nancy to see if she was home from David's and she never went for Christmas. She was sick and had to cancel. That's tragic! I know they were counting on her but when you're sick, you're sick. You certainly can't fly when you're sick.

They're angry with her but that's unreasonable. She was sick.  I called her the week before Christmas and she was sick then too. She had gone back to bed and was taking a nap.

Anyhow, I asked her if she would like to go to Bartlesville with me and she wanted to go so I went over about 11:00AM  and we visited while I drove.  We walked around what is left of the mall there and then went to Dink's for lunch. This time I picked up the check. She had bought my lunch three times in a row. It was time for me to reciprocate.

We had a good visit. And after lunch we came back to Caney and visited some more. I was telling her about a duplex I had read about in the Chronicle.  And we looked it up in her Chronicle and called about i. Steve and Suzanne owned it and it was for rent. And, it had a garage with a garage door opener.  We went to see it. It was large enough for my furniture.  It is $550. a month and $550 deposit. I thought about asking Betty to buy my refrigerator, stove and microwave for $550. This apartment has appliances furnished. The only problem would be a washer and dryer. It doesn't have a washer and dryer.  I could go to the laundry mat...no more laundry then I do...two loads a week.

I would like Leslie to see it but she must be on call this weekend. She answered my text with one word..."busy".

I took Nancy home and then drove home myself. It gets dark at 6:00PM nowadays.

It's 7:00PM now and I will take my bath and get ready for bed. I am tired...but it's been a good day.

Thursday and a Breakfast Out

I awoke at 3:00AM and went to the bathroom and took my med and went back to bed. I had left the heat up a little thinking I might sleep better in a warmer room. I laid there until 4:00AM and then just got up. Maybe it was a little too warm. Who knows.

Anyhow, I am dressed now and checking my e-mail and reading the online Chronicle and working on this blog before I make up my face and do my hair.

In a little while, perhaps around 6:00AM I will text Bob and see if he is interested in going to Eggberts for breakfast. If not, I will open my new box of oatmeal. I think I will buy a bag of frozen biscuits the next time I go to Walmart. That way I can just take two or three out of the bag and bake them to eat with my oatmeal.  I will put that on my grocery list. I have oleo and jelly to eat with them.

I am thinking of making spaghetti for my lunch. I have garlic bread in the freezer.  I also have green beans. I didn't have any ground meat or even spaghetti so I will have to ask Leslie for some meat before I can make spaghetti. And I will need sauce and spaghetti too.  Maybe after Sunday.

My landlady, Betty, is doing inspections today sometime. I don't know when she will come. She manages over twenty properties. And I believe she has one or two of her own too.

More later...better get my eyes in and my face on.

I did that and also texted Bob to see if he wanted to go to breakfast. He did. I picked him up at 6:50 and we went to Eggberts.  Actually, he bought my breakfast this time.

This is apartment inspection day. Betty will be around all her rentals to check us out. I sure would like to get my windows washed. I can't do them since they are very complicated to get apart.

More even later...

I went to eat at Sonic...their little child's chicken strip package with two large chicken strips and  tater tots and a small coke...a very small coke. while I was gone, Betty did the inspections. I guess everything was o.k. I didn't see any problems or notes to any other effect.

That reminds me, I want to check that filter in my furnace. It is filthy again and it is only four days old.   I am going to have to get another one. Maybe I will get the cheap ones until this clears up.What a dilemma! I am sure it is affecting my allergies. It is only 4:10PM so I will go over to the hardware store and buy some more filters.

I bought three and put one in and through the new pleated one away. I bought the flat ones that Betty always bought. They aren't as efficient but they're a lot cheaper and it looks like I will need to change mine every week for awhile. I don't know how long it will take to get all that filth out of the duct work up there in the attic.  That must have been sifting down since November. No wonder my allergies have been fierce this fall and so far this winter. I thought it was pollen but we have had hard freezes several times and my allergies are still going crazy. Now I know why.

It's nearly time for the 5:00PM news so I will get back to this later this evening.

I watched the news and later took my bath and lay down on the sofa to watch a couple of TV shows before changing to Amazon Prime  and watching Forensic Files.  I went to bed at 9:00PM.

Wednesday and Bunco

I slept fitfully last night and finally decided at 3:00AM that I was keeping the apartment a little too cold to be comfortable. So I got up and turned up the furnace a notch or so. That helped! I went back to sleep and slept until shortly after 6:00AM.

I have dressed, made my bed and eaten my breakfast and had my Chai Latte and watched the Tulsa news. In 15 minutes, the CBS news will be on and I will go watch it. The Tulsa news is just a constant revamp of the same news, over and over again as a different audience wakes up and turns on their TV. Tulsa had almost 70 murders last year. That is a very violent culture down there. It has to have something to do with being a bigger city.

It may be the same with the CBS news since the main story is the government shut down.  We will see.

I will go to the senior center this afternoon at 1:00PM and play bunco. I am taking those cookies I baked yesterday afternoon.

More later...

I watched the news most of the morning on CBS and then played a computer game before I ate my lunch. I didn't eat much. My friend, Karan said she was bringing pulled pork, baked beans, slaw and sweet tea.  I had very little of my Sloppy Joe stuff left so I warmed it up, put it on a toasted small bun and finished it up. I probably won't eat a lot of Karan's lunch because I also had an ice cream bar. :)

I wanted to pick up one of the library books we will be reading for our book club but Rachel says we don't have any locally and she has ordered several in for January's read. We are supposed to read "The Rosie Project" . I've never heard of it.

But more later...it's time to go.

I played Bunco for two hours this afternoon and won the prize for the most losses. That's a heck of a prize! :)

Then I came home and got my mail. Two more classmates were lost. I spent the better part of an hour online trying to locate a new address. I found one for each of them and addressed two more envelopes. I have them out on themailbox now to be picked up tomorrow.

Then I watched two TV shows and two Amazon Prime episodes of Forensic Files before taking my bath and going to bed at 9:00PM.

Tuesday and Another Good Night's Sleep

I slept very well last night. I went to bed at 9:00PM and slept through the night until 4:00AM. I have been sleeping a lot better lately. For one thing, my right arm is not hurting as much and also Missy is no longer sleeping with me.

I got up and  dressed and ate my breakfast and got myself ready for the day.

I am not sure what I will do today. I may do some laundry.   I will be out of underwear by tomorrow.
I also could strip my bed and do the sheets. It's been a couple of weeks since I have done sheets...since before the holiday. The last laundry I did was towels and washcloths. It's too cold to go out again. It's 25 degrees this morning.

I texted Bob a little while ago and he has been up since 4:00AM too. It must be something about our age. He is just a year older then me.

Well, I will get back to this in a little while. I will get my laundry started now that it's almost 7:00AM.

So more later...

It's 10:20AM now and I did strip my bed and wash the bedding and also put my underwear and socks in with the sheets. Then I washed the bathroom and kitchen floors and vacuumed the entire apartment. So everything is clean now. I dusted earlier.

I remade the bed and put away my other things.

Marilyn just texted me to remind me of Bunco tomorrow afternoon at 1:00PM. I will make my coffee cake to take as a snack. Maybe Janet will make coffee to have with it for those who drink coffee in the afternoon. I will just have water.

Bunco will give me something to do on Wednesday afternoon.

More even later...

I decided to just make peanut butter crisscross cookies and save the coffeecake for Sunday's church school class.  I got that done and sampled a couple of them (I wanted to be sure they were good enough for the Bunco group). Yeah! And if you believe that, I have a bridge in Brooklyn I would sell you...cheap! 😀

I am recording a couple of programs on the TIBO the kids gave me last year.  That will give me something more and different to watch if there is nothing on TV and I don't want to go to Amazon Prime.

Anyhow, I have saved the cookies for tomorrow in an airtight plastic container.

Nothing more right now..More later...

About 6:00PM I took my bath and put my PJs on and then I lay down on the sofa to watch some TV.
I watched a few programs on TV and three more on Amazon Prime until  about 9:00PM, when I finally decided to go on to bed.

Monday and Rain Again

I slept well again last night although I did get up at 4:00AM. I felt I had my sleep out. I had laid down to watch some Amazon Prime earlier in the afternoon and fallen asleep. So I had a nap earlier.

I got myself ready for the day and got dressed and worked on my 2019 calendar filling in the birthdays and appointments.

Then I ate my oatmeal and drank my Chai Latte and made a  quick trip to the bank to get cash for my hair this morning and for the rest of the week. My appointment is in thirty minutes. She has moved me to Monday this morning because she will be closed on Tuesday for New Years Day. If I had not been working on my calendar, I would have forgotten that appointment.

I finally received Scott's deposit this morning. He notified me he had made a deposit on Friday and it didn't come through until this morning. I had enough money with his deposit and what I had left from last month to write my rent check.I won't be able to pay it until Tuesday because of the holiday. I don't get my social security until the 9th this next month but that is earlier than most months.  In February it will be the 13th and the same in March. My rent is due on the 1st and after the 5th, she would add $25. per day it was late.  In the past, I have transferred, temporarily, cash from my savings to pay on time but nowadays I usually have saved enough back to pay the rent with his deposit. Betty  is doing an inspection of all her properties on Thursday this week. I don't have to be here. She has a key. She also made up leases this year again. It became a city ordinance that she has to have them this year. Marilyn and I did not sign one last year.  There were some things in there we did not agree with.  She corrected them this year so I, at least, did sign it.

More later...time to leave for my appointment.

I got my hair done, thank goodness. It looks real good now. She does a good job.

Keith called me to tell me he has been fooling with his website. It is down now until he gets it reconfigured and backed up.

I guess they were able to get his root canal done. Now he has to have a crown prep and impressions for the crown.

I had the remainder of my cashew chicken from Yesterday for my lunch. It was just as good the second time around.

Now I want to go out to Walmart while it's not raining and get some more Chai Latte and Hazelnut Cappuccino. I am nearly out of those although I have plenty of coffee left from my last 40 cup Amazon package.

So, more later...

I went to the bank and paid my rent and also out to Walmart and bought the few things I needed.

I worked part of the afternoon on my sermon for January 27th.

More later...

Before I took my bath, I went over to Brahms and bought six Yogurts. That is what I have for my light supper.

After I ate, I took my bath and lay down on the sofa covered with an afghan and watched some Forensic Files  on Amazon Prime. I had also recorded a music show yesterday evening and I played that back and watched it too. At 9:00PM, I went on to bed.

Sunday and Church

I slept well last night. I did wake up two times and one time went to the bathroom to take my thyroid med but I got right back to sleep and got up at my regular 5:00AM. I dressed for church, did my makeup and turned up the heat on the furnace.

I will have some oatmeal and Chai for breakfast this morning. That settles better on my stomach then bacon and eggs.

Bob will fix his banana nut bread this morning and also drive to church.  I don't know if Phyllis is in town or not. She had Christmas with her daughter in Overland Park.

I will get back to this later.

I have had my breakfast and watched the news..such as it was. I texted Bob A. and he is up although he slept later then usual. He doesn't have his banana nut bread in the oven yet. He is running a  little late, I guess.  It's only 7:14AM so he has plenty of time. We don't leave for church until 9:00AM.

More even later...

Bob came by shortly before 9:00AM and he had bought doughnuts at the Doughnut Palace instead of making his banana nut bread. That was good for a change. However, I suppose because of the holiday, we had a tiny little congregation this morning but the message was very good!

I came home and sent off five newsletters besides the ones I send by e-mail. Then I took the draft  schedule for the first quarter of 2019 over to Karan who had accidentally deleted it. She is up to speak next Sunday and didn't even know it. She seldom checks her e-mail.

Steve came and mulched our leaves this afternoon. I was so pleased! I had intended to wait until it warmed up some toward the middle of the week and was going to rake and bag them. I told him how much I appreciated his work. The yard looks so much better! I don't know how long it will last since there are still two trees that have not shed all their leaves altogether yet. But I am really grateful for all the mess that is gone.

More later...It is 3:15PM now.

I worked some on the sermon I have coming up on January 27th. Finally, went over to Brahms and bought my yogurt. That's what I generally have for supper. I buy six each week in a variety of flavors.

While I was working on the sermon, Bill Goodbar called. He was married to Bob's sister until she died about 2001 or 2002 or maybe 2003 when we lived in Independence. We only lived there three years so that's a close approximation of the date of her death. We moved back to Coffeyville in 2003. We visited awhile and he told me he would be 94 in 2019. I told him I would be 84 in 2019. He used to come visit me when he went fishing at Roaring River. He would drive over here and take me to dinner and we would visit.

Emmet Came by late afternoon and climbed up in the attic to try to ascertain why my furnace filter was covered with some sort of black grime. It turn out one of the people who went into the attic had hit the duct work up there and 50 years of grime came down into the ductwork and into the furnace and covered both sides of the furnace filter.

About 6:00PM, I took my bath and put my PJs on and I tried to watch the rest of the football game and then tried to watch 60 Minutes but the picture was tearing so I will watch 60 Minutes tomorrow morning on Amazon Prime.

Finally, I just turned over to Amazon Prime where I had a very clear picture and watched some Forensic Files. At 9:00PM, I went on to bed. I am very tired.
