Late Night Work

I was up late last night again. The daughter and son of the man who had died, met with the funeral home people and they decided that instead of Wednesday for the funeral, they wanted to have it Monday. So I was up till 11:30 last night writing the funeral sermon. Luckily the children were able to give me a lot of information about the family and their father.

We had been out to our daughter's home having a belated Christmas gift opening with our grandson, his significant other and his child, our great granddaughter. They gave me a large bamboo box of wonderful tea. While I was working last night, I had a cup of it.

We had a fruit tray, chips and dip and eggnog...her homemade eggnog with real nog. They didn't give me much because I am an addictive personality and it really affects me. :)

Our great really enjoyed her gifts. She is five years old. Christmas is about seeing the children utterly thrilled with their gifts.

Trip to Bartlesville

We went to Bartlesville yesterday morning and ate at Jane Phillips Memorial Hospital because they have a good cafeteria there. Then we went out to Lowe's and browsed so Bob could get some exercise in this cold weather.

When we got home after 2:00 we found we had had a couple of phone calls. One was notification that an inactive member had died and his daughter wanted me to do his funeral. I agreed and will meet his daughter and one son at the church this afternoon at 2:00 to discuss arrangements. It appears, if the funeral home has the time, that the funeral will be held on Wednesday. I will need to put together a funeral sermon. It will probably be a memorial of the life of the deceased. Life just gets busier and busier.

I went to bed at 8:30 last night.

Slinky woke me at 11:00, needing to get out. I let him out and then back in and he went right back to sleep. He slept until nearly 7:00 AM after that. He usually has me up at 5:00 AM.

New Year's Eve Party

The New Year's Eve party was a great success. It was held at my cousin Sue and her husband, Dick's, home. They host this affair every year. Usually there are 25 - 40 folks there but some have died and some were out of town this year, so there were probably only 25 or so. I didn't get a head count. The women visited while the men watched a game in the family room. Then later on in the evening, the women played a game. (I forget the name of the game).

There was a lot of food and we ate late..sometime after seven. But we had a good time. My cousin and her husband are great hosts.

I took my latest scrapbook because some of those folks are members of my class and I wanted to show them the pictures I took at the reunion. I also had a draft of the newsletter I've been working on. Several looked at it.

If the printer ever gets back with me on the cost of the labels, I will get it paid and they can start getting it printed.

Anyhow, we didn't stay until midnight. We left about 11:30. I was concerned about how Slinky would do in our kitchen while we were gone so long. But he did fine and was sleeping on his rag rug in the kitchen.

After we got home and I took my bath and we went to bed, I heard the bells and whistles go off.

I hope you all have a Happy New Year!!

Poisoning Myself

I was reading the news online day before yesterday and discovered how many medications are actually very dangerous in combination with others. The only over- the-counter med I use is aspirin for occasional back pain and my leg aches and Vicks for my dried out tissues in my nose.

I got my bottle of Vicks and read the label. I discovered first of all, that it is good to combat nasal congestion. I knew that because I had used it for several years. Then I read further and discovered it is not to be used in the nose or mouth. It contains camphor which is a poison. I'm not exactly sure how it's supposed to help nasal congestion without putting it in the nasal passages except as my mom used to when she put it on my chest and then covered it with a flannel cloth.

But I have been poisoning myself for years by putting it in my nose at night. It eventually melts and rolls down the throat as I sleep.

Oh well....maybe I have been strengthening my immune system since I take no meds a this time of my life.

After Christmas Busyness

Sunday and Monday were quiet days. Sunday after church a group of us ate at Sirloin Stockade and then we came on home and I did my notes. That evening we watched 60 Minutes and just enjoyed sitting around. I visited my sister at the nursing home a couple of hours.

Monday I read a good deal of the day and also started working on a paper I will present at the Restoration Studies Symposium in April. We went by the market and bought a few items.

I finished my class newsletter and found out how much it would cost to mail. It will cost .57 apiece. I will send out 195 copies. I will take the CD to the printer today. It is 7 pages plus one page on the back blank where I can place an address label.

This morning the Worship Commission will meet at church and take down all the Christmas decorations and prepare the church for the baptismal service on Sunday.

Tomorrow I will go to Independence to get my hair done and that night, New Year's Eve, we will go to a dinner party at my cousin Sue's home. She and her husband have a dinner every New Year's Eve.
