Saturday Again

It's Saturday again and I just got home from breakfast with Bob. I got up early again after a night of hurting on my left arm. I took a couple of extra strength Tylenol but it doesn't even make a dent in the hurting. I will start trying Aleve again tonight.

I went out at dawn and watched for the foxes again. Only one came out this time and he got about even with my drive and then Connie and her boyfriend came out and he dove into the ditch. I could still see his ears until they backed out and then he ran into the culvert. Bob has seen three of them...one larger one, one slightly smaller and then a kit. I only saw two yesterday and today only the larger one. It's so strange having foxes living around here. I guess it's the creek and the timber that draws them.

I will fix some hamburger patties for lunch and we will eat up our leftover potatoes, veggies and the salad he brought. That way I won't have to throw away good food. It's only a couple of days old anyhow.

I think I will run down to Bartlesville this afternoon while Bob takes his nap. I want to check out the sales at Christopher and Banks and Stage.

More later...

I did go to Bartlesville and shopped for some grey jeans or crops. I could not find any in my size though. I will look in Branson next weekend. I did buy a sale top though.

I got back home by 5:00 or so.

A Something New and Different Friday

This morning Missy and I went out on my patio and we saw something very strange. At first I just thought it was a couple of cats but as they came closer I realized they were foxes. There were two of them. Yesterday morning Bob saw them and thought they were cats too. There were three yesterday. One was a kit. This morning I called him to come out and see them and he agreed they were foxes. Missy was terrified and wanted back in the house. I let her back in and she growled and growled...now that she was safely in the house. We are not in the center of town but we are certainly not on the edge of town. A block or two away there is Sycamore Creek and a lot of timber. That must be what is drawing them in....that and perhaps the need for food. Strange!

I went to Independence this morning to get my hair done and while I was there I went to their Wal Mart store and bought school supplies for the back packs I bought earlier this week. I had to take the long way since tenth street road is still closed. Now I am ready for the Friday exercise class. Bob will be leaving soon.

My neighbor across the way has bought a new Toyota. It is one of the unique ones.....a Prius. It is a beautiful red.

More later...

We had our exercise class and afterward went for coffee. Then I came home and fixed dinner. We had pork chops, mashed potatoes and gravy and carrots and jello salad. We had cupcakes for dessert. Everything was good.

My son, Scott, called after lunch. My eldest son, Keith, called earlier.

Now I am preparing the bulletin for July 28th. I will take it to be printed off after the weekend.

Now about the president's speech. This was an "off the cuff" discussion about race and without any teleprompters. He spoke from his heart. And it's about time he said something as president as a black man about this subject. He reminded the audience that he too had encountered the reaction of whites clutching their purses when he got into an elevator. And people locking their car doors when he encountered them on the street. The answer to prejudice is not some kind of "conversation" about race. People cannot be talked out of their prejudices. The way we eliminate prejudice is to make interracial friends. That's what we have done in Coffeyville with the PINCH organization. Those of us with some influence have taken on the racial prejudice and injustice we have encountered in the community. The black community cannot make these changes by themselves. It takes those of us who are friends and white to assist them to find justice.

Some years ago, retired Methodist minister Howard Bredesen and my husband, Bob Miller, started this organization in an attempt to combat racism the natural way...by making friends in the black community and socializing with them to get to know them. At one time we had dinner parties and had some serious conversations about their experience in the past. Their stories did not surprise us. We remembered when the black athletes could not play sports with the white teams. I stayed with the organization when Bob died three years ago and have made some incredible friends in the black community. That's how we combat racism. We make friends.

Laid Back Thursday

This has been a laid back day. I awoke at 2:30 with aching arms again. I took a couple of extra strength Tylenol but they didn't help much. I did finally get back to sleep though and slept until 5:00 when I got up. I watered my plants and let Missy out with me awhile. Then she came back in. I visited with my neighbors, Maureen and Judy on Maureen's patio until 9:00 and then did some ironing. I had just three pieces to do. The rest was towels and underwear.

Now in a little while I will start lunch. We are having tuna cakes and fried potatoes as well as veggies. I seldom fry foods but it's been awhile since we had friend potatoes. Bob will bring a salad to lunch. I still have some of Sunday night's dessert so we will finish that up.

Son, Keith, just called and visited with me for awhile. I really appreciate his calls.

Right now I will take a glass of lemonade out in the chairs in front and sit awhile. More later....

Shortly, Bob came over with his photos from mother's collection. He stayed until time to start dinner and then went home to fix his salad. When he returned, I was frying the potatoes and the tuna patties. We soon had lunch and then he went home to nap.

Wednesday Again

I did not sleep well last night. I awoke at 2:00 with very sore arms. I couldn't get back to sleep. Finally at 3:30 I got a melatonin pill and went back to sleep until 5:30.

I am going to the doctor in Bartlesville with Bob today after our exercise class. Then he plans to go on to Owasso to the Olive Garden. He wants to use his gift card. That's what I gave him for his birthday.

I will water my plants this morning even though we got some rain yesterday. Those plants out front are under the eaves.

More later...

3:30...we just got back from Owasso. We ate at Olive Garden and then browsed some stores. It was a fun day and a good lunch. Now for a nap!

Another Busy Tuesday

I was up at 5:30 this morning and went out on the patio and wiped down my patio furniture. It had rained last night. At 9:15 this morning I left for Independence to deliver my cakes and get my hair done. After that, I went to Goody's and bought a pair of shoes for 60% off. It was also Senior Tuesday there so I got an extra discount.

Then I came home and Bob and I ate at El Pueblo. I came back home and boxed up Sage's clothing. She left her dirty clothes in my trunk so I washed and dried them and sent them off to her.

Now I will try to get a nap.

More later....

I did get a nap. I really needed it.

I watched PBS this evening. Here it was a rerun about Lewis and Clark. After that I watched Frontline. That was also a rerun but I had not seen it before. It was about the fallacy of forensic evidence. It often convicts innocent people because it is not an exact science. The conclusions so called "experts" reach are simply subjective.

I went to bed at 10:00.

Another Busy Sunday

I was so busy yesterday that once again I did not find time to post. First we went to church. After church we went to "Just Us" in Cherryvale for lunch and when I got home at 2:30, I did the congregations newsletter. Then I ran out to Wal Mart to buy back packs for the upcoming Bible School. Of course, our Wal Mart did not carry them. I should have expected that. So I went to Dollar General and bought mine.

Then I came home and made the dessert for last night's Living the Questions group meeting here. I had eight. It was a fun meeting.

I got things put away and went to bed about 10:00. I slept well through the night.

I am so glad to be through the reunion (church camp). That was a lot of work!

I was up at 5:30 this morning and put some meat out to thaw for hamburger steaks at noon. We will have our leftover mashed potatoes with egg added to them as potato cakes and Bob is bringing more coleslaw. I will also warm up the leftover veggies. And of course, I have leftover dessert from last night.

Missy and I sat out on the patio this morning and she explored some right around where I was sitting. She is very cautious as well she should be.

I invited Karan over today to take some of my sweet potato vines. They are taking over my flower bed. She said she would come today.

We went to exercise class this morning. Tomorrow I will go to Independence to get my hair done.

More later...as time allows.

We had our hamburger steak lunch. Now I am seasoning a pan. When that is finished, I will bake my two cakes for tomorrow.
