Friday and Baking Cookies

Today I will bake cookies again. I ate the last one with my Chai last evening.  Bob didn't come over last night. He was extra tired.

I slept pretty well last night although I went to bed at 8:30. For some reason, I was very tired and there was absolutely nothing to watch on TV. I should have read, I guess. My friend, Bill, gave me two Kindle books for my birthday.

I will go to the market this morning.  I need about a dozen items. Bob will come over before his exercise class to read the paper. After he leaves, I will go to the market.

I am planning to have hamburgers and french fries for lunch unless Bob and I can come up with something else we'd rather have.

Thursday and Breakfast with the Girls

I slept very well last night. I had a terrific 80th birthday yesterday.

Both Keith and Leslie called yesterday and Scott, who was swamped at work yesterday, texted me this morning.  His wife, Ginger, called me though. Leslie sent me flowers (bulbs) and this is the day I am to change the water and add the second packet of feed that came with them. I will take another photo of them to post when they finally completely open.  My grandson, Jerod, texted me at bedtime, Cyndi, Leslie's best friend, texted me. The senior citizen group sang "Happy Birthday" to me at game day. Marilyn R took both Bob and me to lunch. Bob brought me a nice birthday card. Then I had many friends who gave me a "Happy Birthday" on Facebook.

These are the flowers as seen after I changed the water and trimmed them again.

That was the best one but there are three more sides to that vase.

This is the east side of the vase. There are still two more photos.

This is the north side and the last one will be the west side.

Notice the water drops on my tablecloth. They are dry now.

Today I will meet the girls for breakfast..plus Bobby. Bobby got sick at exercise class yesterday. Karan got him to the restroom in time and then took him home.  Bob came over to tell me about it and I called Karan to offer help. She had given him a pill that alleviated his nausea and he was lying down and taking a nap.

She called this morning and they will meet with us for the breakfast this morning. I will take Bobby home and stay with him while she gets her hair cut.  She is going to have to get some more of those pills. She only has one left.  He may get nauseated again along his journey.

I heard from my friend, Gay, at last. She and Tony are taking care of her 96 year old mother who has moved in with them. The mother has developed some dementia and Gay is in need of some "girl" time with me so I will ask Bob to go with me to Chanute on the 19th for a fish dinner with them.

My friend, Myra, also contacted me on my birthday. She and I will have lunch in Bartlesville on Friday the 11th.  I have some great friends and they never seem to forget me. She and her late husband, Bob, were good friends of ours when we lived in Bartlesville before 1969. We have stayed in touch all these years.  Before they were even married, we used to take her husband camping with us.

More later...

Well, the girls and I (and Bobby) had breakfast together at Eggbert's this morning. I wasn't impressed. My food was cold. But I took Bobby home afterwards and stayed with him until Karan got her hair cut. Then I came home and fixed my spaghetti and garlic toast and broccoli.  We had Bob's jello salad for dessert with cookies.

Then I took Marilyn R some of it and she asked me to stay and help her open her new laptop computer. She had tried to open the hinge area. She had always had a desktop computer.  I couldn't get her laptop to recognize her modem or router and really didn't know how to help her with it.  It needs to be configured with both the modem and router. We put the security code in for the router but I don't recall how to get the modem to be recognized. Right now both are coming through her desktop computer which is in the process of dying.  So she will call her daughter-in-law this evening and get her to walk her through the process. Somehow I got Bob's notebook configured but it kind of did it itself. This one did not recognize the modem...let alone the router.

Wednesday and My 80th Birthday

Well, this is the big day. I finally turned 80 today. I am very fortunate to have such good health. I take a little blood pressure pill and also a very tiny bit of thyroid. That's it!

Today I got a Kindle book gift from my old friend Bill H. I tried to download it and it would not download.  I finally called Amazon and they troubleshooted the issue.  It turned out it was a Kindle issue. I had just charged it two days ago but it needed to be charged again. As soon as I plugged it in, I saw the book download. The original Kindle the kids gave me the Christmas after Bob died, died just after the two year warranty went off.  They offered me a deal on a Paperwhite Kindle at Amazon and I took it. I have had this one about two years and it is evidently having trouble holding a charge. It is charging now. Amazon is supposed to call me back within the hour to check on it. I will tell them it finally downloaded.  I like to use the Kindle because I am basically out of space for books. I have been selling books on Amazon for several years.  I hope to get most of them sold before I die. Lord only knows when that will be.

Today I will go with Bob and Marilyn up to Cherryvale to "Just Us" for lunch. Marilyn's treat! I tried to tell her we would buy our own lunch but she insists. That's really sweet of her. She brought us some cake last evening and some very good salad. I had half the salad for my supper and when Bob came over last evening we each had some of the cake.

This afternoon at 1:00 I will go play games at the senior center. It is something different to do.  The apartment is clean and the laundry is all done. I need to wrap the other two gifts I bought. I bought wrapping paper at Wal Mart yesterday. Maybe I will get that done today.

I had my oatmeal for breakfast this morning with orange juice and coffee. Tomorrow for lunch we will have spaghetti and a veggie. I will take some of that to Marilyn too. We will have plenty. I still need to go to Braums and get my yogurt and milk. I will try to get that done today too.

More later....

I got my gifts wrapped before Bob came to pick me up.

Marilyn R. took Bob and me to Cherryvale for lunch today for my birthday. We were going to "Just Us" but Jim was still in the hospital with pneumonia so they were closed. We went across the street to Pizza Hut and had lunch there. It was good.

When we got home to Coffeyville we went to the senior center to play games.  We left at 3:00 and I came home to  read the mail and the paper.

Bob should be over soon and he will read the newspapers. I want to check to see what is on PBS tonight.

Tuesday and Another Cake Day

I slept well last night and got up at my usual 5:00 AM. Oddly, Blue Cross/Blue Shield  has not yet taken my supplement premium out of my account. They were supposed to have done that on the 28th. They haven't taken Bob's out either. He checked yesterday and I checked again this morning. I hope we're still covered.

I have loaded the cakes into my trunk so I am ready to go at 8:15 and pick up Bob. We will go to get my hair done first and then deliver the cakes. I am going to take Sunflower Road since the detour will be a mess with all this rain. That will take more time but still I will get there on time. I may even get there in time to deliver the cakes first. After that, and I get my hair done, we will go out to John and Leslie's to get ground meat. I am completely out. Then we will stop at Great China and have lunch.  I will put the meat in the trunk and it will not melt!

I may work on my Christmas cards again this afternoon after I go to play games at the senior center. I hope to get them all ready to go and then mail them off a little at a time. I used half my stamps doing that yesterday.

Tomorrow, for my birthday, Marilyn R wants to take us over to Cherryvale to "Just Us" for lunch. I heard from Karan yesterday that she enjoyed our church service Sunday. Perhaps she will come back. We have our Christmas service next Sunday and a Christmas dinner afterward. We are to take a dish to go with Melissa's ham.

Missy has decided  that if I won't let her lie in my chair or Bob's chair, she will just climb up on the sofa and lie there. Go figure!

More later....

When I got home from Independence, the florist delivered this box that contained beautiful bulbs from John and Leslie for my birthday tomorrow.

Here are the flowers! They even came with their own vase. They will open later and the box included the food to feed them until they do open. I was to cut an inch off the stems and put them in fresh water and add the food to the vase. Then the third day, I am to change the water and add the other packet of food. I am excited about how they will look when opened. There was a card with them too. It read: Happy birthday for your 80th birthday. You're the greatest. Enjoy the flowers and your special day. Love you. Leslie and John too.

Isn't that neat?

And I finally did it! The weather was just nice enough for me to go out to the east flowerbed and pull up those flowers that had frozen out. The only thing left is the Dusty Miller  And when it finally gives up the ghost, I will pull it out too. I took a photo of the mess I left but I hesitate to put it here. :)

Marilyn brought me some of Darlene's cake  and some scrumptious salad. I had some of the salad for supper and will have some of the cake when and if Bob comes over this evening. Tomorrow Marilyn R wants to take us to "Just Us" for a meal out at noon.  That is so sweet of her!

Bob came over and stayed until 7:00 and then I took my bath and watched some TV with Missy before I went on to bed about 9:30.

A Very Busy Monday

This has been a busy day. I did a load of laundry and also cleaned the apartment.

Then I went out to get my blood pressure meds refilled and also to get some Christmas cards for my family. I bought a few more gifts too. Now I have to get them wrapped and under my tree. I got my Christmas letter done and tucked into  the family cards.. Those are ready to go out in a week or so.

Tomorrow I will try to get the gifts wrapped. All I lack now are Marlene's gift and Sage's and I may get Marlene's when I go to Independence tomorrow to get my hair done and take the cakes up to the First Christian Church.  Bob and I will eat at Great China tomorrow noon.

I also want to go out to Leslie's and get some more ground meat before lunch.

It's almost 4:00 now and I have been busy all day. I fixed chicken strips and mashed potatoes and gravy with green beans today for lunch. Bob brought a jello salad.  We had cookies for dessert. I had not made anything else. After he left I baked my cake. Both Karan and Phyllis have brought their cakes over. All I lack is Bob's now. He will probably wait until I pick him up tomorrow to bring his out.

More later....

Bob came early but left at 7:00 as usual.  Missy and I stayed up until 9:30. Then we went to bed. Big day!

A Busy Sunday and Coffeecake

I slept well last night and it's a good thing. I had a busy morning. My paper was late so I called the paper about it and was told my subscription had expired last March. So I will renew it Tuesday while I am in Independence. Meanwhile I went to one of the service stations to buy a Reporter. I need some change for the machine and the woman was in there but refused to open a little early even to give me change so I went to McDonald's and got change. When I got back to the service station  their machine would not accept my four quarters. I called the Reporter and asked for a location where I could buy a Reporter and they told me about one just a few blocks away. I went there and bought a paper. When I got home and began to read it, I discovered I just had half of the paper. So I went back and informed the woman at that station and she gave me a new one. I noticed there were quite few papers that were only half there. So I told her about it and suggested that she separate those out and give them back to the Reporter. When I got home, I was wet from the rain. I read the paper but noticed it was not worth the two trips or the $1.00 at all. What a waste.

Anyhow, I made my coffeecake and it went over well at church. Marilyn R went with Bob and me and later went out to eat with the group at El Pueblo. She seemed to enjoy them all. I hope she will come back next week for the Christmas program and the Christmas dinner afterward.  I will ask her.

I got my letters finished and out on the mailbox for the mailman tomorrow. It's 3:00 now. I will work on my Christmas cards this week. I probably will not get them in the mail quite yet but at least I will have them finished before Christmas.

Tomorrow I will clean and do my little bit of laundry. We will have chicken strips and mashed potatoes and gravy for lunch and something for dessert. I haven't got that far yet.

Tuesday I will take the cakes up to Independence and get my hair done too. If Bob goes along, we will eat at Great China.  If not, I will come home and cook.

Marilyn wants to take us to "Just Us" for my birthday on Wednesday. That's nice. We will drive separately since she has somewhere else to go after lunch.  I will go to play Bunco Wednesday afternoon. I enjoyed that last month.

More later...

Bob came over about 5:00 and left about 8:00.  We watched a football game and then 60 Minutes. I've had my bath and Missy is patiently waiting for me to come to the living room and get into the recliner.  Ho Hum! Better go!
