Saturday and Breakfast Out

Bob and I will be eating breakfast this morning at 7:00 at Eggberts. We do that every Saturday morning. He will be attending his family reunion today at noon so I will probably get my cleaning done since I will not be fixing lunch. I am thawing chicken tenders in the frig for Monday's lunch. Denise and Dee are planning to attend the family reunion too. That should be good for Denise. She is struggling with her loss of Terry.

I slept fairly well last night. I did wake up at 3:00 AM and had a hard time getting back to sleep but I finally did. I got up at my usual 5:00 AM.

I need to vacuum and dust today and wash the floors in the kitchen and bathroom.  My skin crawls every time I think of all those night crawlers (earthworms) in the apartment yesterday morning after all that rain. Yuk! There was quite a bit of flooding around the area. My neighbors to the west had water standing a foot deep in their back yards.  We are a bit higher...thank goodness.

It's chilly today..in the 50's. Fall has definitely arrived.

I am doing laundry again. I have a load of towels and underwear in the laundry this morning.

More later....

We went to breakfast and when I got home I cleaned the apartment. ...very thoroughly. I'm going to go out to Wal Mart and see what kind of carpet cleaner they might have that you can sprinkle on the carpet, leave awhile, and then vacuum up. Years ago, I had something like that but I don't know if they even make it anymore. I want to get rid of any trace of those night crawler earthworms I had on my floors day before yesterday.

Bob just popped in to tell me he was leaving for Independence and his family reunion.  He's gone now.

More much later....

Bob was gone all afternoon. I baked peanut butter cookies.   They didn't turn out as well as last time. But they're certainly edible.

Later Bob came over for wine and conversation. He told me about his family reunion experience.  About 30 came.

When he went home, I took my bath, sat in the recliner with Missy in my lap and read my book.  I went to bed about 9:30 and was sleeping soundly until 2:00 when Scott texted me. He had watched a Netflix program and wanted to share information about it with me. He evidently forgot about the six hour difference in Kansas and Hawaii. After the 11th dinging and vibration on my phone, I got up and e-mailed him and explained to him that I cannot receive Netflix. My TV is broken and the only way I can even receive TV is with the box Cox brought out. The TV was purchased in 1992 so I got my money's worth out of it.

Bless his heart, at least he thinks about me. :)

Very Rainy Friday

I slept well and woke up shortly before 5:00. I got up and did my makeup and dressed and came into the kitchen for a terrible shock. It had rained hard all night and the kitchen and dining room floor were covered with night crawlers. It took a dozen paper towels to pick them all up and dump them into my yard debris sack out on the carport. Then I swept the carport off and another dozen out there but water is standing everywhere out there just off the carport.  I don't know how to keep the night crawlers out of the apartment and I don't know how they got in with the doors locked. I even had two in the living room. Ugh! I can't spray poison because of Missy. I don't want to poison her. My skin crawls every time I think of it.

We will go to exercise class this morning and then perhaps to Utopia for coffee afterward. I need to put some meat out to cook for lunch. I had planned to take Juanita to Bartlesville today for her birthday (which is tomorrow) but with all this rain, that won't happen. She is 93 and nearly blind. So I will fix chicken tenders, mashed potatoes and gravy and a veggie. I still have chocolate pudding in the frig for dessert.

I really need to clean this afternoon...especially after all those night crawlers were all over my kitchen and dining room floors and even two in my living room. Ugh!

Missy is wanting to go out on the carport but it's still pouring down rain out there and at 6:20, its still dark. She will have to wait.

More later....

We went to exercise class this morning and then home to go to the market for Tabasco. I put that around each doorway to try to keep the night crawlers from coming in again tonight. I took the remainder over to Bob. He had a dozen in his apartment too.

For lunch we asked Bobby and Karan to go to the cafe in Dearing with us for chicken and noodles.  It was very good. We will have the chicken tenders Monday.

Scott called me at lunchtime and said he would be here to see me about December 12th. He will pick up Ginger at the airport in Tulsa and she and he will drive back to Savannah together.  I will be delighted to meet her.  He is quite taken with her.

I have read and puttered around all afternoon. Soon my newspaper will be here and I will have the crossword puzzle to work on.

More even later..

Bob came over and stayed until 7:00 and we watched the news. I read until 10:00 on the textbook on the development of the New Testament that I bought that's written by Bart Ehrman.  It is interesting.

Thursday Again

I have no particular plans for today.  Bob has his Lion's Club breakfast this morning but I have no plans today. I may run the vacuum again. I always have cat hair to contend with.  I have the laundry all caught up. I will fix chili for our lunch and I will get that ready later this morning.

If she is up to it, I will take Juanita, my 93 year old friend, to Bartlesville for lunch on Friday. Her birthday is Saturday but she already has lunch plans for Saturday. If she feels well enough to go, she loves to eat at Dink's Bar B Q and that is where we will go. At 93, she doesn't know how she will feel from day to day. She is also mostly blind with macular degeneration. I will leave Bob some leftover chili for his lunch.

I was involved with a discussion on high fructose corn syrup online and found this additional information from a Duke University study:

"High fructose corn syrup, which some studies have linked to obesity, may also be harmful to the liver, according to Duke University Medical Center research.

"We found that increased consumption of high fructose corn syrup was associated with scarring in the liver, or fibrosis, among patients with non-alcoholic fatty liver disease (NAFLD)," said Manal Abdelmalek, MD, MPH, associate professor of medicine in the Division of Gastroenterology/Hepatology at Duke University Medical Center.

Her team of researchers at Duke, one of eight clinical centers in the Nonalcoholic Steatohepatitis Clinical Research Network, looked at 427 adults enrolled in the network. They analyzed dietary questionnaires collected within three months of the adults' liver biopsies to determine their high fructose corn syrup intake and its association with liver scarring.

The researchers found only 19 percent of adults with NAFLD reported no intake of fructose-containing beverages, while 52 percent consumed between one and six servings a week and 29 percent consumed fructose-containing beverages on a daily basis.

An increase in consumption of fructose appeared to be correlated to increased liver fibrosis in patients with NAFLD.

"We have identified an environmental risk factor that may contribute to the metabolic syndrome of insulin resistance and the complications of the metabolic syndrome, including liver injury," Abdelmalek said.

Research Abdelmalek published in the Journal of Hepatology in 2008 showed that, within a small subset of patients, high fructose corn syrup was associated with NAFLD. Her latest research, published online in Hepatology, goes one step further and links high fructose corn syrup to the progression of liver injury.

"Non-alcoholic fatty liver disease is present in 30 percent of adults in the United States," Abdelmalek said. "Although only a minority of patients progress to cirrhosis, such patients are at increased risk for liver failure, liver cancer, and the need for liver transplant," she explained."

There are many more studies to be found online to confirm these findings.

Wednesday Exercises

We have our exercise class today at 9:00. It's only 40 minutes but it's good to keep us flexible.

After our class, we're going to drop by the doctor's office and get our flu shots.  It's time. I want to stay healthy all winter.

We will have our leftover Mexican Chicken Casserole for lunch with salad and a veggie.  I will put out some frozen fruit to thaw for dessert. This afternoon I need to bake cookies again. We really go through the cookies. They only last about a week.

Tomorrow we plan to have chili for lunch. It's supposed to be rainy. That's one of our few unhealthy lunches. Bob eats his with crackers and I eat mine with Freetos.  And we also drink coke with it to makes it really unhealthy.

We have decided not to go to Branson this weekend. It's supposed to rain all weekend there as well as here.  We plan to go the next weekend.  Bob has his family reunion this Saturday. I may take Juanita and go to Bartlesville.

More later....

Well we got our flu shots and after that I fixed our lunch and then read most of the afternoon.  Bob brought his application over and we made it out...all six pages of it. He will take it over to the apartments tomorrow after he goes to Lion's Club breakfast.

Later he came over and we watched some TV and had some wine before he went home.  I took my bath and put my pjs on to work on my blog and watch the PBS program on penguins. Then I watched Nova about the missing Malaysian airliner.

Tuesday Hair Appointment

Today, at 9:30, I get my hair cut and done. It really needs it. This hair has really grown .  While there in Independence, I will go by the Merle Norman store and get an eyebrow pencil and perhaps some mascara.

I slept well last night although I did wake up a couple of times. I got right back to sleep though. I baked some biscuits this morning and ate one for my breakfast with my coffee.

I ran Missy's afghan (throw) through fresh air on the dryer this morning and really got a lot of cat hair out of it.  Now I need to run the one she lays on in the recliner through it too. She sheds so much. That's why I vacuum so often. Cats shed so!

I haven't heard a word from the hospital. I don't know what's going on with them. If I could make it without going back to work, I certainly would. I have enough to keep me busy right here at home with the lawn to help mow, the laundry to do, lunch to cook and the house to keep clean.

More later....

Aime called this morning to say the HR department at the hospital backed out of their agreement with SER. They wanted SER to pay for my background check and drug test.

So I'm back to square one.

More later...

Tonight’s Independence Reporter has a story saying the hospital did not finish their contract with the CEO they had intended to hire, Ms. Cahill. They cancelled the Meet and Greet meeting Thursday and she was gone by my meeting time at 10:00 on Friday. There’s quite a story about it in tonight’s Reporter.

They are starting anew looking for a CEO. They are now hiring an agency to find  one for them.

I'm glad I didn't get into that mess.

Exercise Monday

It's Monday again and I will be going to exercise class. I missed Friday because of that interview that didn't happen. It will be interesting to see if they reschedule it.  If they don't, Bob and I will go to Branson on Thursday and Friday.

I am washing my bedding and other laundry this morning. I have it in the dryer now.

Yesterday evening I worked on my classmate list. I heard from another classmate and am now up to 33 classmates.....51 counting their spouses and guests.  When I get to 60 (if I get to 60), I will call for a classmate meeting of the five of us who actually work on the reunion (Larry, John, Phyllis, Dean and myself) to rough out the plans.

More later....

I raked leaves again this afternoon. I am trying to keep the yard cleaned up.

Later, after 4:00, my dear friend, Gay, came by and stayed an hour and a half. She had taken her sister, Adele, to the airport to catch a plane to Houston.  I enjoyed getting to see Gay again. She is caregiver for her mother. Their mother is 96 and will be 97 in January. She is going to come more often now.   She appears to be failing.

Bob will come over later this evening for wine and cookies and we will watch "Big Bang Theory".

Well, he came  over and we watched the" Big Bang Theory" but neither of us thinks it's as good as it used to be. Maybe they have changed writers.  I'll be interested in learning if anyone else noticed it.

Sunday Sermon

I woke up at 4:00 this morning after going to bed at 8:45. I simply could not keep my eyes open. At 9:00 we went out to church. I did some cleaning and got the communion ready for Karan. We had a small congregation this morning. I spoke so that was fine.

Four of us went to Sirloin Stockade for lunch.

I then came home and did my letters and went Dollar General to get a few things I need for lunch tomorrow.

I read all afternoon.

Bob came over at 5:25. We had some wine and I had two cookies. We are trying to get through football now so we can watch 60 Minutes.

We finally got to watch 60 Minutes after wading through a zillion commercials.  I more and more think I could live without TV. I enjoy PBS so much more then all the other channels because of no commercials!

I am going to bed at 9:30.
