Another Scorcher

This is going to be another terribly hot day. At 10:00 last night it was 100 degrees. I was going to garage say today but there are very few garage sales. So I guess I'll just stay in air conditioned comfort. Slinky will have to come into the kitchen today for sure. He was almost sick last night when I got home a little after eight. Poor dog.
I brought him in and intended for him to sleep in but he wanted to be outside. I finally put him outside but I wasn't comfortable with it.

Sometime this morning, Leslie is coming in. She has hair appointment at 9:30. After that she will come over. I don't know how long she'll stay.

This evening at 6:30 we will meet over to Caney for the Historical Society's ice cream social.

More later...

She stayed a couple of hours and then went to Independence to help my grandson Jeromy take the church's old tables back. He had had a yard sale.

Then she invited me to dinner at their house and from there we went to the ice cream social. It was neat to see a lot of people I knew from our 11 years in Caney. Many knew Bob too and offered their condolences.

Celebration of Life

This evening I will drive to Vinita for the Celebration of Life the family will holding for their husband and father. They really liked what we did for our Bob so I expect it to be a similar service. He was a very dear long term friend. It's about 50 miles east of here. I will leave about 4:00. I want to be sure I can find the church with plenty of time. The service starts at 5:30 - 7:30. I hope to get back home before dark.

I took Slinky for his walk this morning. He was happy about that. We went about 6:30. It's about 90 degrees already and it's only 10:00. It's supposed to be 103 today with a heat index of 111.

I just went out back for about 30 minutes to pull weeds from one flowerbed and came in soaking wet. I will cool down and do the rest earlier tomorrow morning.

Not much going on the rest of the day.

More later...

I read all afternoon and when it came time to leave and go to Vinita, it was 104 outside. I really hated to leave Slinky out all afternoon. When I got home at 8:15, he was panting terribly. I brought him in the house to cool down and wanted to leave him in tonight since it is still 100 degrees out there at 9:40. But he wants to go out. At last he did an hour ago.

The family meeting was very nice. I guess they are have the actual Celebration of Life on September 5th at the campgrounds. This was just a get together with refreshments. I will wait a few weeks and then call and invite Myra to lunch. She and I now have a lot in common. She wants me to come have lunch with her.

Another Sleepless Night

I have been having trouble sleeping lately. I guess ever since Bob died. I have some sleeping meds but hesitate to take them unless I'm sleepless three night in a row. This was only the first night this time.

On top of everything else, my friend Bob H from Vinita died on Tuesday. They are having a Memorial Service Friday from 5:30 till 7:30 at Vinita at the church. He was pastor there. I plan to attend. Hopefully, Leslie will work something out at work and go with me. They are planning a Celebration of Life like we had for my Bob in June.

Today I will visit my sister at Windsor and then have lunch with my grandson again. He contacted me yesterday evening.

I went to the library yesterday and got another book. I read most of the day since it was over 102 degrees here. I had Slinky in all afternoon. He is happiest when he can see me reading in the dining room and he doesn't feel alone. I finished the book last night and will return it today.

Hot, Hot Wednesday

I got out early today and weed eated the front. Then I ran out of power with the old weak battery. I have the other one in charging now.

Then I went to the market and bought a few things. I noticed our new Eggberts was open. Since I had not had breakfast, I stopped and ate there. It was very good and very pretty. Now I won't want lunch.

I talked to my brother-in-law this morning and he suggested I wait until tomorrow to go see my sister. Her daughter needs to go to Topeka tomorrow and won't be there. I think it is good if we just go one at a time.

Then I went to the library and got another book. I got one yesterday but read it all before bedtime. I returned that one. It was another Murder Mystery..my favorite fiction.

Now I must get out there in the 90 degree weather and get the rest weed eated. I also need to do a load of laundry. I'll put that in first and save the book until afternoon when Slinky will need to come in.

MC3 Meeting Today

Today is my board meeting for the clinic in Independence. Afterward I will have lunch with Leslie.

Then I will probably come on home and let Slinky into the kitchen. The heat index is supposed to be very high today.

I need to mow but will wait until this evening and see if it cools down enough to do that.

More later...

I did go ahead and mow. I will trim tomorrow. I was afraid it might rain this evening. I am hoping anyhow.

I came on home after a late lunch. The meeting ran almost 30 minutes long. I met Leslie at the restaurant. Then I cam ehome and let Slinky in. He was roasting out there. It's 102 with a heat index of 107.

I have been working on my minutes ever since I got home.

My brother-in-law was going to visit my sister at the nursing home this afternoon. I am anxious to find out how she is. She was angry yesterday when they took her there from the hospital.

I just learned that an old friend of mine, Bob Harper, passed away at 3:00 AM at Tulsa this morning. I have known him since I was 27 years old. He used to go camping with us before he was even married. What a shame. He was 74.

A Complicated Day

Today, I am to give the invocation at the county commission meeting. I am also to clean Leslie's house. That means I won't get to her house until at least 10:00 and since it takes me three hours to clean her house, I will miss having lunch with her.

Perhaps we can have lunch tomorrow. I have to go back to Independence for my MC3 board meeting at 11:00. That lasts an hour. If she can pick me up instead of me picking her up, we could have lunch. We will see what her schedule is for tomorrow.

Also, there's a chance my sister will be released from the hospital today and will go back to Windsor Place. I didn't go see her yesterday at all. I worked on my letters in the afternoon after church. Then last night I went to Living the Questions group meeting.

My sister was released back into the nursing home. That's good! I will meet Leslie after my meeting tomorrow. I had Slinky in most of the afternoon. It was 100 degrees outside.

I went to Sirloin Stockade for dinner tonight.

Sunday Morning

We had a small congregation today but we were expecting it. There were six couples who were gone out of town. After church six of us went to the new El Publito restaurant. It was swamped with cars. We waited a few minutes in line but those people had moving that line down to a fine art and we not only had great food but we also had great fellowship. Leslie wants me to go to a movie with her this afternoon but I would need to be out by 6:30 to make it to Living the Questions tonight. I will call and ask when the movie is over.

It was too late to go so I took a rain check. Leslie invited a woman who works in her office that lost her husband last year. She is struggling. Leslie has such a good heart.

I have a program that lets you do a Living Will and so I used it to work up and print off a Living Will.

Then I went to Living the Questions. They really liked my new DVD. It is called "First Light". It features John Dominic Crosson and Marcus Borg talking about The Kingdom of God.
