A Busy Saturday

This will be a busy Saturday. First Bob and I will go to breakfast at Eggberts. Then we will come back to our respective homes and do whatever needs to be done as chores before 10:00. Then at 10:00 we are going over to the car show at Tyro Christian Church. After that, we will go to Bartlesville to eat lunch at Dink's Bar B Q. It's been awhile since we've been to Dink's. Then we will look around the mall before coming back home to Coffeyville.

That should be a full day.

Monday is my great granddaughter's tenth birthday. I meant to get her card in the mail yesterday and forgot. I will send it today and it will be late. I always send her a dollar for each year.

More later....

Well it's been quite a day! I had loaned my car to Bob's daughter because theirs was in the shop. The shop has had it about a week. The mechanic did not get the head gasket today as he'd hoped. So they were going to need it longer. I had been worrying about that car they bought after Bob's Toyota Corolla was wrecked. It was in pretty bad shape and has been in the shop with one expensive repair after another since they bought it. They have to go to Topeka for Terry's doctor's appointments a couple of times a month and need reliable transportation. So after we looked at the car show this morning we went on down to Bartlesville and ate at Dink's. Then we went out to Bartlesville Honda to look at Honda Civics. I had looked several months ago before they bought the car they have now because if I could have found a 2005 or 2006 I was going to try to buy one. They had nothing older then a 2010 and I knew I couldn't pay for one of those so they ended up buying the one they have now that is constantly in the shop. It's going to have ahead gasket now. It just had a new radiator and thermostat.

This time I found a beautiful 2008 Honda Civic. It is an LX just like the one I have now except it has a lot more neat features. Bob and I had both been car salesmen in the past and we knew the ropes. And we told them that up front. I got them to come off their price $600. I went into finance there and found the payment would be $188 a month. I'm pretty sure I can swing that. So I bought it and brought it home. It is really nice. Then we went out to Denise and Terry's and told them what I can done. I told them if they decided they didn't want the 2001 I have now that I was sure I could sell it for the $2600 I gave for the down payment. Of course they wanted it. I will take a photo of the 2008 and post it here so you can all see it.

Dee can use the other one for her transportation to college nearby when they get it out of the shop.

Here it is:

Another Nice Friday

This is to be another nice day. I will leave in a little while to go to Independence for my hair appointment. It's at 7:00 on Fridays. Then I will come back and we will go to exercise class. After that, we may go to Utopia, the coffee shop for coffee. Then I will come home and warm up the tuna casserole for lunch. I don't know about the afternoon. Since I got up this morning about 4:45, I may take a nap but I'd like to go to Bartlesville. I need makeup again and the store in Independence doesn't open until 10:00 so I can't get it there. The one in Bartlesville would be open by the time we got there.

I wonder if we are going to avoid war. It strikes me as odd that the president was the recipient of the Nobel Peace Prize and yet he is all ready to bomb Syria. He is a paradox. I think he needs to listen to the Russians, much as that galls him. They do have a relationship with the Muslim countries. We do not. We have done way too much damage to them over the years. They hate us...not because we are Americans or even because we are mostly Christians (certainly not because of our "freedom" as Bush always contended) but because of our political moves against them over the years. An air strike of any kind would result in "collateral damage", which is just a pretty way of saying killing women and children. Our complaint against Syria is that they killed woman and children. Go figure. After all, they are just as dead whether they die of gas poisoning or from being bombed.

Worse of all, an air strike would probably result in "unexpected consequences" .....perhaps even another horrific strike against our homeland. He needs to consider those things. Every move against them we have made in the past has resulted in some kind of unexpected consequences, like violence against our embassies and even the Cole catastrophe.

More later...

I did get my hair done and then went out to Wal Mart to get some covered hangers for my clothing. I have been buying four packages every time I go to a Wal mart store. They are those "suit" hangers they carry. When I got back home I went out to South Coffeyville where I can get gas ten cents cheaper per gallon and bought Bob enough gas to fill up his tank. I have been using his gas all week.

Then we went to exercise class and on to Utopia for coffee and a treat.

After that, I came on back home and began working again on my sermon for the last Sunday of the month. In a little while Bob came over with his salad. I had lost track of time and didn't have our dinner ready so I got right up and got with it. We finished and we visited awhile before he went on back home for a nap.

I have been going through the photos on my flash drives to find Ashley's senior photos. She lost hers when she left them with a modeling agency in California. I had scanned them before I gave them to her just in case something like that happened. I found them on one of the older flash drives so I e-mailed them to her. I also asked Scott if he wants them too but I haven't heard back from him.

These photos are Ashley's senior photos,

This one is her with her dad.

As you can see, some of them are pretty classy glamour shots.

Nice Cooler Thursday

This has been a nice day. It's only in the lower 80's and we have a chance for rain too. I doubt it's going to develop but I am still hoping.

I got up slightly after 5:00 this morning. I had a bowl and cereal and some coffee and read my e-mail. After awhile Bob came over. He had been to Lions Club. He joined today. I think it will be good for him to have some male companionship. I told him he shouldn't spend his waning days with only an old woman.

We went to "Just Us" in Cherryvale for lunch. As usual it was good.

He is taking a nap over there at his house. In a little while I will borrow his car and go out to Wal Mart. I need a few things now. I'm going to put some ground beef in the frig for meatloaf on Saturday. Tomorrow, we will have the rest of our tuna noodle casserole.

I finished my autobiography of Billy Crystal. It was a little profane at first but got less so as the book proceeded. He has been married over 40 years to the same woman and is a devoted father and grandfather. You can cut someone that dedicated a little slack.

More later....

Dinner, at "Just Us" was usual, was very good.

Well, I went to Wal Mart in Bob's car this afternoon and spent $86.00. Wow! It had been awhile since I had bought a lot of groceries. Tonight I will just watch TV tonight.

In the morning I will go back to Independence to get my hair done for the weekend. Then Bob and I will go to Tyro to the car show. After that we will come home and I will fix a meatloaf, potatoes, veggies and salad. I have cupcakes for dessert.

Payday Wednesday

I get my social security today. It is always the second Wednesday of the month. Now I can pay some bills. Bob used to get his social security on the 3rd of the month and that was really handy. Most of my bills come due, including my Blue Cross Blue Shield supplement, before I even get my social security and I have to transfer some money from my savings to cover them. Then after it finally comes, I transfer it back.

Bob and I went up to Sirloin Stockade last evening and had their six ounce sirloin steak and a baked potato. Neither of us felt full from lunch. It was good and we enjoyed the outing.

I was able to put my contacts in today. My eye is feeling normal again and the swelling and redness is gone. That was a bad experience and I will be extra careful from now on.

We will have exercise class this morning. My arms are a little sore already. I carried two 40 pound bottles of water into the church yesterday afternoon and that must have been hard on them. I will be extra careful today.

I am fixing a tuna noodle casserole for lunch/dinner today. We will have a veggie and a salad with it. I have pudding for dessert. My tuna noodle casserole is pretty easy. I "like" easy.

Here is the recipe:

1 can of cream of celery soup

1/2 cup milk

2 cups of cooked noodles

1 7 oz can of tuna drained and flaked

2 T diced pimento

2 T chopped parsley

2 T buttered bread crumbs

Blend the soup with the milk. Add noodles, tuna, pimento, and parsley. Pour into 1 1/2 quart casserole dish, top with crumbs and bake in a 350 oven for 30 minutes or until hot and bubbling. This makes 4 servings.

I try to rotate my meat dishes: tuna, chicken, pork, and beef. I don't like the way salmon smells up the house or I would fix it occasionally too. I use a lot of Judy's recipes too taken from her website. If you haven't already done so, check that site out. It's got some great recipes.

I loaned my car to Bob's daughter for a few days. Theirs is in the shop. So when I need to go somewhere, I use Bob's car.

After lunch, I borrowed Bob's car and went back to the senior center to play Bunko. This was my first time and I really liked the game.

Cake Tuesday

Today is the day I take our cakes to Independence for the dinner tonight at the First Christian Church there. I will also get my hair done. It is a mess. I helped John and Leslie clean up the mess from trimming the hedge at church on Sunday. I sweated and my hair was damp. That always does it. It curls up and flips up where I don't want it to curl. Oh well, I have it done a couple of times a week so what the heck.

I will meet Leslie for lunch today. We have decided if she can get away on Tuesdays we will meet for lunch. I have Bob's car today so he will have to stay home until I get back.

I tried to put my contact in my right eye this morning because the eye seemed comfortable. After about five minutes or even less, the eye objected so I took it back out and I'm back to glasses again. I guess it may take an entire week for the eye to recover from that chemical burn. It's still a little red.

I need to go to the bank while I'm in Independence this morning and also get the water bottles for the church water cooler. They are working on Tenth Street Road again so for a mile I will have to drive on a country gravel road. It will be detoured for a week. I hope that's all. I hate to drive on gravel roads. There's always the chance of a dear being out there.

More later...

I did have lunch with Leslie today and later after I got home and returned Bob's car, I walked down to the dollar store and found just what I wanted for John's birthday on Saturday.

Bob came over after 4:00 and suggested we go down to Sirloin Stockade and have a 6 oz. sirloin. That's what we did. I had a mini pizza for lunch. It didn't stay with me all afternoon.

A Better Monday

I had a really good night's sleep last night. I went to bed about 9:45 and slept straight through until 4:30 this morning. My eye is still sore and swollen but certainly nothing like the pain of yesterday. I am wearing my glasses today and will see what it looks/feels like by tomorrow before putting a contact back in my eye.

I don't know if I will go to exercise class today or not. I feel drained after yesterday and the eye is still sore.

We will have our stew from Saturday for lunch/dinner today. I will put some more biscuits in to eat with it. I will make some pudding for dessert. This afternoon I will have to bake and ice my two cakes for tomorrow.

Miss Kitty is lying by the carport door waiting to go out. I will let her out to eat some grass when I go out to water my plants. They may mow today so she had better get her grass while she can. Oddly enough she only wants the uncut grass.

More later...

I got my cakes baked and iced after lunch. Then I took a short nap.

Later on I took my car out to my niece for a couple of days. Their car is in the shop with yet another problem. They will drive mine until they can get theirs fixed. Bob will let me use his car if I need transportation. He even gave me a key. On our way back home, we stopped by and picked up Phyllis' cake. I haven't heard anything out of Karan. She probably forgot the cake again.

My eye just got better and better all day long today. I will probably not wear my contacts this week until perhaps Friday. I need to let my eye heal.

P.S. I misjudged Karan. About 7:00 she brought her cake over.

Church Today

It's Sunday again and soon will be time for church. Bob was out a little bit ago and put our paper in his car. We will probably go out a little earlier this morning to see if Cyndi had her monthly inside rummage sale at the church yesterday. We will see if she did and if she cleaned up after the sale. If not, we will do some cleaning before everyone else gets there.

After church some of us will eat out somewhere. John and Leslie have decided not to try to eat with us when they have their grandchildren. It's just too much of a hassle to get to visit with the group. The grandchildren are 1 and 3 and they can be a handful.

This is the week we take our cakes to the Christian Church in Independence and I will do that on Tuesday. I bake my cakes on Monday afternoon.

I didn't sleep well last night. I awoke about 2:30 and really never got back to sleep after that. I don't know what the problem was.

Tomorrow we will have our stew and biscuits again for lunch/dinner. I have plenty.

I have been out watering my flowers. They are doing very well. I will take some photos and show you how well they are doing.

This is the east flowerbed that John built for me.

This is the front of my apartment showing the various geranium planters. See how well they are doing even for September? I water them at least once a day and sometimes twice.

More later....

I had a terrible mess today. I accidentally got hold of a product to soak my contacts in that was chemically burning to my eye. I put my right contact in this morning and it burned my eye terribly. I quickly pulled it out and threw it away. I threw the second one away too. It had soaked all night in that caustic cleanser. It burned all day until 8:00 this evening when it finally stopped. I left church halfway through the services to go home and get that new contact out of that right eye. I even went to the emergency room. They said I was doing everything I could already. It has hurt horribly all day. Finally at 8:00, when I went to take my bath, it suddenly stopped hurting. What a mess!
