Huge Saturday

Bob and I had an early breakfast at Eggberts this morning and then afterward Leslie came to pick me up for our trip to the Joplin church. We were having some orientation for our church Conferences in the spring. It lasted from 9:00 until 4:00 this afternoon. Then we stopped and had supper afterward before she brought me home. I got home about 6:30. It was a huge day and I was exhausted. I called Bob when I got home and told him I was back. He decided not to come over. He was very tired and hadn't slept well last night. I took my bath and put my pjs on and watched a little TV.

The realtor called today to ask me if she could show the house. I told her I was in Joplin and she could just do as she liked. She showed it but her client was looking for something larger. I only have a little over 1250 square feet here. But at least she is showing it.

She said the showing went well. I may yet do a little painting to touch up here and there. There are places where the paint has worn thin where I have washed the woodwork over the years.

My younger son, Scott, called me this evening. He was cleaning in his new apartment in Hawaii. He needed to know how to wash windows so there were no streaks. I suggested newspaper. He was going to try that. I told him if the house sold, I would come visit him in Hawaii. He was happy about that.

Friday At Last

It's Friday at last. It's been an exhausting short week. My supervisor wanted me to scan documents yesterday instead of moving files. So I scanned all afternoon but didn't get finished. I will work on it again on Monday.

The realtor finally called last evening while Bob and I were watching the DVD he had of the Central Park concert of Simon and Garfunkle. She will call me sometime today on thirty minutes notice. She has a showing at 10:00. So I will make sure the house is neat. Winter is usually not a good time to sell a house so I don't expect much. We did sell the Independence house in winter though. Housing is picking up a little around here but not a lot. Southeast Kansas is a terrible place to try to sell a house.

I went through my records yesterday and made a list of all we did to improve this house after we moved in. There's no way I will be able to get any of that out of the house. We probably added at least ten thousand dollars to the cost of the house.

I will go to Independence this morning and get my hair done. It looks terrible. It's almost a week past the color and cut....thanks to the holiday.

More later....

The realtor finally had her associate call me and tell me it would be afternoon before she could see me. It's almost 2:00 now and still no call. I'm not wild about her using up my entire day instead of coming on over and listing my property and getting it over with. I guess I can use the rest though.

I went to Wal Mart while I was in Independence early this morning and bought $55 worth of groceries. Then I came home and did a little more cleaning before beginning lunch/dinner. We had chicken tenders, mashed potatoes and gravy, brussel sprouts and coleslaw. Cookies for dessert. I will be gone tomorrow with Leslie to Joplin for our conference training. Since I will be gone, I sent the leftovers home with Bob.

More Problems

I started my dishwasher last evening and water backed up into my kitchen sink. I tried to plunge it but that accomplished nothing at all. So I called a plumber. He hopes to come this morning but if not, he will come at 1:00. Bob said he would come over and let him in. Or I can stay home and make up my time at work tomorrow afternoon. It's always something it seems. My house and car insurance come due next week and I also have to have my car seat belts repaired when the part comes in next week.

Yesterday at work I spent the entire day moving files from one case to another. I moved eight floor to ceiling cases full of files. I still have two to go. I came home utterly exhausted. I couldn't stay awake for the PBS show on volcanoes. I took my bath and went to bed as soon as Bob left.

This morning the water is still standing in the sink and the dishwasher is full of dirty dishes. I have had a cup of warmed over coffee and read my e-mail and online County Chronicle newspaper. There's no sense fretting about the expense of living. Nothing changes that. It beats the expense of dying.

I have had a sore right forearm for a couple of months. I don't know what causes it but I don't intend to go to the doctor over it because it appears to be in the forearm muscle and I imagine it's my age and the work I do. I can only work for three more years at this government job training job. Before then, I will have to sell my house and move into rental property. Taxes and insurances and house repairs are eating up my savings.

My daughter just called me and suggested that I go ahead and put my house on the market. She says if it sells before I can find a duplex, I can put my furniture in storage and move into their extra bedroom until I can find a duplex I want with either a garage or a carport. I guess it's time alright. If it doesn't sell right away I have lost nothing. If it does sell, I will have the equity from the house to supplement my income and I can give up the job. I will check with a realtor after the plumber comes.

The plumber came and after some problems, got my sink unstopped. I will be billed later. The realtor I wanted is not in this morning. So that didn't work out.

Back To Work

It's Wednesday and it's back to work. In order to make up for the lost day Monday, I will work all day today again. That should make up for the extra day off. I will just lose the holidays altogether.

I will come home at noon and warm up yesterday's casserole. Bob will come over and we will eat it again. Then I'll go back to work.

It's 13 degrees today so I will probably wear a coat to work. I have a blouse and sweater on but that may not be enough under these circumstances.

The rest of the week is pretty quiet except for Saturday. Leslie and I have a meeting at Joplin on Saturday from 9:00 until 5:00. We are both to be delegates at our church's World Conference in April and this meeting is something to do with that.

I need to get a letter off to Scott. It looks like something important. I have it in a large envelope and I just need to get a couple of stamps on it.

Keith called yesterday afternoon to wish me a Happy New Year. He is so good about those things.

New Year's Day

It's early yet so I don't know how the weather has turned out. If it isn't icy today, Bob and I will go down to Owasso for a meal at the Olive Garden there. If it is icy, we'll just stay home and I'll fix something for lunch and he will come over and help me eat it. We had stew yesterday. It tried to snow a little yesterday but mostly just drizzled.

We watched a DVD last evening and enjoyed it. It was the last one we had of my niece's. I was hoping to get the one I ordered from Warner Brothers last week but it didn't come. It was the old movie "Paint Your wagon".

We still have several DVDs between us to watch and I have the library where I can get some of them. If they don't have them, they will order them through inner-library lending. I can also go to V & S Variety where they still rent DVD's.

I will work all day tomorrow to make up for the half day I missed yesterday. Soon my car part will be in and I will have to have the car repaired. It turned out to be the seat belts. It will be $100 I hadn't counted on. Then my house insurance and car insurance come due this month too. The house insurance is $677 and the liability car insurance is $125. I will have to take the money out of my money market account. It's always something. Oh well...I can't take it with me. I just hope I don't run out of money before I run out of life.

More later...

Bob called later this morning to say it was drizzling freezing drizzle and he was hesitant about driving on highways to Owasso. I agreed and fixed a tuna noodle casserole for our lunch. He brought coleslaw and I fixed some Texas toast. We had pears and cookies for dessert.

He came back this evening to watch the news with me and we also watched another video. It was the original "The Thing". It was still pretty good even though I had seen it in the theater back in the 50's. Then we watched PBS and Great Performances. I still got to bed before 10:30. When Bob left he had to scrape his windshield.

New Years Eve

This will be a different New Years Eve. We were forecast rain turning to snow for today but the wet weather has once again passed us by. No rain in the forecast now and no snow either. We are suffering from the worst drought since the 20's. We have had very little rain since spring. All our leaves fell very early because of it.

I slept well last night but woke up aching all over. I must have slept in one position too long. Anyhow once I got up and began moving around most of my aches disappeared. I am still having a sore right forearm. It feels like someone punched my arm. And it's sore most of the time. It's been this way for a couple of months and seldom goes away.

Bob and I had planned to go to Owasso tomorrow and eat at the Olive Garden. Neither of us are much for staying up until midnight. Whether we go or not will depend on the weather.

I need to go back to the dollar store and get bubble bath and Kleenex today. I can't seem to remember to get everything I need on one trip.

I may clean my bathrooms today. I cleaned everything else day before yesterday. The bathrooms are not really dirty but they still could use a good scrubbing just on general principles.

I had a good crowd at Living the Questions last night. The only ones who did not come were Jack and Marilyn and they were out of town. Gary wasn't here either but he had no transportation. And Barbara was missing too. But everyone else made it. My dessert went over well.

Different Sunday

This will be a little different Sunday. Bob and I are invited to a birthday party for Imogene in Chanute. She is 95 today. She still gets around well at that advanced age and lives by herself in senior housing.

Her daughters, Gay and Adele, are giving her the party.

We will go to church first and then on to Cherryvale to "Just Us" to have dinner and then on to Chanute to the party. It's an hour's drive so we will eat closer to home. The party is from 2:00 till 4:00. I bought a couple of cute cards for Imogene. We will take those to her party.

Tonight I have Living the Questions group here so I will fix my dessert this morning and be all ready.

I guess I's better got to it then. It's 6:30 AM.
