Wednesday and More Rain

I was awakened this morning by my phone going off to address a severe flooding alert. I am nowhere near a flood area. But it gave me a loud alert twice at 3:00 AM.  I finally got up and read the alert and unplugged the phone to take it over to my bedside. I had just got back to sleep and it went off again at 4:00 AM...several times. I got up to look outside and sure enough it was raining but not flooding in my neighborhood. But sleep was over. I just got up and dressed and gave up trying to sleep.

Now I will go get breakfast for both Missy and myself. So more later...

We've both had breakfast now and  I've even taken the newspapers over to Marilyn's mailbox.

It's still raining. I let Missy go out briefly but she saw that it was raining and decided she would come back into the apartment. She has to find out those things for herself. I tried to tell her it was chilly and rainy out there but... let's face it, she's only a cat.

We're going to have a tuna casserole for lunch. Bob will bring a salad. I have some frozen peas I will toss into it too. I want to get rid of them because there are not too many of them.  I have some pudding and cookies for dessert.

I plan to go to Bunco this afternoon at the senior center if I don't drown trying to get there.

More later..

Dinner was fine. Bob brought a nice salad and we had the chocolate cupcakes for dessert. Afterward I went to Bunco. The rain had stopped. I had a good time. I got home shortly after three.

More later...

I had a good time at Bunco.....didn't win anything but still had a good time.

Later in the afternoon, Bob came over and watched TV news with me and when he left, I took my bath and Missy and I watched TV until I could keep my eyes open any longer and went to bed at 8:30.

I don't think that I'd want all of those alerts waking me up but then again I have my youngest son here for awhile and I had a 70 lb. 2 year old ( still puppy-like ) pit bull jumping on my bed and licking my face to death at 4:30 a.m. so either way we were both up early! :)

The other day we had storms roll through and we've had a lot of rain here as well...the forecasts were for flooding, 70 mile per hour winds, 1 inch hail, tornados...scared the crap out of me.

We had wind and some rain. High winds yes and some power outages but thankfully nothing awful.

I would very much dislike phone calls like that. If our phone rings past 10 pm or before 9 am I fear something has happened to someone in the family. It seems that if there is the technology to call like that with alerts, they would have the technology to narrow it down to areas that are actually threatened.

About a half an hour south of where we are in Missouri there is serious flooding going on. There are no creeks or rivers very near our home, so if there is ever flooding in this neighborhood, it's time to look for Noah. But since we are on high ground, we have a real threat when there is lightning. Our next door neighbor had two trees killed in the past two years from lightning strikes. One of the trees survived the first lightning strike, but was struck a second time a year later and that killed it. Both times the lightning flash was so close it was blindingly bright in our living room. Now every time there is a thunderstorm Fuzzy Pom sits in the middle of the living room watching out the window for the lighting to hit the tree that isn't even there anymore. He isn't afraid of the storms. He seems to think he is guarding against them. He is an 8 lb. guard dog.
