What On Earth???

What on earth was McCain thinking of in picking an obscure unknown Alaskan woman governor for his VP candidate. This woman is not about to get us Hillary fans to vote for her with McCain. there are so many better qualified women he could have asked. Now I know he is senile. She has two years experience as governor and before that was a mayor. Yes, she's a pretty cheer leader type but that's not good enough credentials to be VP, especially for someone 72 years old in questionable health like McCain. The man has had two melanomas, for gosh sakes. I believe he has just killed his party's chances at the White House.

The editor of the Anchorage Daily News is quoted as saying:

About her strengths and weaknesses: “She is smart, vivacious and energetic; she tends to oversimplify complex issues, has had difficulty delegating authority, and clearly has difficulty distinguishing the line between her public responsibilities and private wishes. She is under legislative investigation on this, the so-called “troopergate” issue, in which she is said to have used improper influence to try to get her sister’s ex-husband fired from the state troopers."

About her approval ratings: “Her approval ratings are high–65 percent, or so–but down from 80 percent earlier in her term. Most Alaskan’s haven’t watched her as closely as most reporters or legislators. If you took a poll of reporters and legislators I expect her approval rating would be down in the teens or twenties."

Just what we need in this country. A Vice President with virtually no experience in Washington. She would die of culture shock there. She has NO foreign affairs experience. In fact, no real experience at all at anything except local government and two years as a governor...a questionable one at that. Her total qualification was that she was pro life, very conservative and a member of the NRA.

This proves McCain knows he is losing. He has failed his first executive decision. He is doing desperate things like this to try to win over the discouraged Hillary fans. I have news for him...it won't work.

And, from Move On:

Yesterday was John McCain's 72nd birthday. If elected, he'd be the oldest president ever inaugurated. And after months of slamming Barack Obama for "inexperience," here's who John McCain has chosen to be one heartbeat away from the presidency: a right-wing religious conservative with no foreign policy experience, who until recently was mayor of a town of 9,000 people.

Huh?

Who is Sarah Palin? Here's some basic background:

  • She was elected Alaska's governor a little over a year and a half ago. Her previous office was mayor of Wasilla, a small town outside Anchorage. She has no foreign policy experience.
  • Palin is strongly anti-choice, opposing abortion even in the case of rape or incest.
  • She supported right-wing extremist Pat Buchanan for president in 2000.
  • Palin thinks creationism should be taught in public schools.
  • She's doesn't think humans are the cause of climate change.
  • She's solidly in line with John McCain's "Big Oil first" energy policy. She's pushed hard for more oil drilling and says renewables won't be ready for years. She also sued the Bush administration for listing polar bears as an endangered species—she was worried it would interfere with more oil drilling in Alaska.
  • How closely did John McCain vet this choice? He met Sarah Palin once at a meeting. They spoke a second time, last Sunday, when he called her about being vice-president. Then he offered her the position.

This is information the American people need to see.

When he picked her, I think he just lost the election for the Republicans. Health and age is going to be a major issue this year and we simply cannot risk it on his medical health for the next four years.

It's weird that the party that claims Obama is too inexperienced has picked a woman with even less political experience than Obama.

It puts Hillary supporters in a bind. Those who are considering voting for McCain, thinking he might serve four years and Hillary will run again in 2012 have to reconsider. If he dies in office, then their beloved Hillary won't be the first woman president. If Obama wins, she'll be too old in 2016 (68 years old).

Thus, I believe that Obama made a deal with Hillary that won her enthusiastic support. She won't be president, but she will be his first nominee for Supreme Court Justice when Ruth Bader Ginsberg retires.

That's an interesting premise, Nicholas. I wonder if you are onto something there.

I told you McCain was too old! lol. I read an article the other day that said men in their 70s became forgetful and senile before women in their 70s.
