Monday and a Blood Donation

I slept poorly last night. For some reason after months of relief, I had my right arm start to hurt again nearly all night. If that continues, I will have to start wearing my brace again. I finally just got up around 4:30AM. I got myself ready for the day and had my breakfast and coffee and am working on my Chai now. It's 6:08AM now.

I will go over to Coffeyville to the Blood drive at noon. I did my Rapid Pass online this morning and printed it off so that should save me 15 minutes. The last time I went to give, they were an hour late with my appointment and then I learned I had low hemoglobin and couldn't give. I have been eating raisins and grapes and taking an iron supplement ever since. Hopefully my iron will be fine this time. I have the best type of blood. It can be used for transfusions with  any other type of blood. O positive. They are crying for blood. This pandemic has eliminated a lot of donors. Now we have to wear masks while we are there and they are no longer serving treats or sandwiches. That's to keep the donors from being too close to anyone during this pandemic.

It's after  6:00AM now and I will need to text Bob to see if he is o.k. and then watch the "weather on the 8's" and also feed the cats. I hope Scruffie comes this morning. I didn't see her all day yesterday.  I don't know if someone else is feeding her too or what happens when I don't see her for some time.

So more later...

Well, Scruffie wasn't out there. There was just two blond cats and Inky. I don't know what's going on with her.

I watched the news and then started to Coffeyville at 11:25AM. My appointment is at noon and it will be interesting to see if I have to wait an hour again like  last time.

I had to wait about a half hour to be brought back for the interview. I had done the bulk of it online so it went quickly. I was able to print off most of it and that made it quicker then before. I also had my hemoglobin back to normal again by taking iron.

I stayed to do the  job of escorting folks to the water and chip table but no workers asked for an escort. and everyone I was prepared to escort waved me away saying they were fine. I think the were leery of getting the virus from someone who had been there for three hours. And Spenser came to relive me at 3:00PM and we decided the Red Cross had probably told their nurses not to ask for an escort just in case someone developed the virus after they had been there to give blood..for fear of being sued.

A strange thing happened this time. I walked out to my car and drove to Walmart to buy a half dozen things I needed. I felt fine but when I went into Walmart I was so weak I had to go to the pharmacy area and sit down. I was very shaky and was glad to get home.

Then I drank some more water and ate my little package of pretzels and sat in the recliner awhile. Weird...my card says I had given 83 pints of blood over the years. And that had never happened before.

It is 5:14PM now and I am now watching the Channel 6 news. In 15 minutes the CBS news will be on and I will watch that. At 7:00PM or thereabouts, I will take my bath and plan to go to bed at 9:00PM.

More later...

I think you need to give up giving blood. I know you think you can do “it all”, but several times you have had problems after giving blood. Hope you are back to normal today.

No, actually this was the first time I have had a reaction of any kind. Last time I tried to give last month I had low hemoglobin. But I had been taking iron ever since then and my blood test said I was fine.

I even stayed to be an escort for two hours with no indication of a problem...until I got to Walmart afterward and the weakness set in.
