Saturday and Breakfast Out

I slept fairly well last night. I did wake up at 3:00 AM and never did really get back to sleep. I finally got up at 4:00 AM. It's 5:25 now.

Bob and I will go to breakfast this morning and than his family reunion is at 11:30 at the Kansas Buffet (the former Sirloin Stockade). I told him I would go with him but I doubt I will be hungry again by then. So I don't know whether I will go or not. I really don't have a plan for anything else.

I am to pick him up for breakfast at 6:50.

There is a celebration downtown today. I may go down this afternoon to see what all is going on.  There is a woman who has been redoing older houses here in Coffeyville and she is leading the celebration. There are a couple of new businesses downtown too and I have not been down there to check them out. Karan was telling me about them.

More later....

I picked Bob up at 6:50 and we went to Eggberts to eat breakfast. I had a ham and cheese omelet. He had the Silver Dollar special.  After I took him home I went to Country Mart to buy oleo and some more cornbread muffin mix. Then I came on back home. I really should take Missy out for awhile. She has been very patient...not one of her usual best suits. So I will get back to this later...

I decided  to update all three computers including Bob's. I had that nearly finished when Bob came and we left for his family reunion.  We had a good time and one of his relatives paid for everyone's dinner. We were not told which one. I was very full.

When I got home, I laid down with Missy and took a nap. After I woke up I swept the carport. Then I read the Coffeyville Journal newspaper.

Bob will be over later to watch the news.

Tonight after he leaves, I will wash my hair before I get ready for bed. I hope to stay up until 9:00.

Friday and Exercises Again

I slept well again last night. I got up shortly before 5:00 AM.  I guess getting the driver's license renewal and the passport application out of the way, has helped.

I have drained the beans I soaked last night, put new water on them, added some salt and onions and have them slowly cooking in my slow cooker pot. I had a little bit of ham and I added that too. I will fix cornbread to go with them.

I will pick up Bob for exercises this morning. I have not attended all week. Monday I had my hair done and then Wednesday I went to Independence to renew my driver's license and apply for my passport. I also went by Juanita's and gave her her birthday gift. She was 96 on Wednesday.

I am still concerned about my friend, Gay, and her husband, Tony.  I will call her sister, Adele, later on this afternoon and see what I can find out.

More later....

The beans and cornbread worked out well. Marilyn R. came and brought Bob some cookies she had frozen and also brought back one of my bowls. I gave her some of the beans and cornbread. She will be leaving tomorrow afternoon for her plane trip to Florida to her son's home. She will be gone for at least six weeks. She is considering moving down there with him and his wife.

Adele returned my call later this afternoon. Gay is still in the hospital and unable to stand on her own. She falls over backward when she tries. In fact, Adele said when she stayed with her Tuesday night, she needed help even getting in bed and getting out of the bed. Her balance appears to be badly affected. They are going to do an MRI this afternoon and I will call Adele again tomorrow. Thank goodness Tony's daughter and husband are her to take care of him. Gay had been taking Prozac and another drug for her restless legs syndrome.  The doctor seems to think taken together they may be the culprit. He will put her on a newer drug for her restless legs.

I laid down with Missy and watched TV this afternoon. It's 3:00 now and the newspaper will be coming about 4:00.

Bob showed up at 5:00 and we watched the news and Brooks and Shields on PBS.

More later...

I have ordered some glasses that filter out the blue rays of the computers, the TV and the phone. I should sleep better when I get them.

I laid down again with Missy until time to go to bed at 9:00.

Thursday and Cleaning Day

I slept really well last night without any pills. I didn't even wake up to go to the bathroom. Amazing!

I will clean the apartment this morning and then Bob and I will go out to El Pueblito for lunch.

Tomorrow I will go up to Chanute to see my friend, Gay. She got up in the night this week and got disoriented and fell and hit her head. She was in the hospital Tuesday and had five stitches in her head. While I was on my trip and her sister called me about it and we arranged for me to come up to Chanute to see her on Friday. She was to get out of the hospital Tuesday afternoon. She was diagnosed with debilitating grief.  She lost her 99 year old mother in September and her husband, Tony, is in dialysis three days a week and is not doing well. She is overwhelmed. She had had the total care of her mom for several years. This year her sister and her husband moved from Houston to Chanute and Adele has been able to help her but she still lived with Gay and Tony.

Gay and I have been friends since we were 14 and 17...a long standing friendship.

But today, I will clean. I'd better get to it. Daylight's burning....

It's 9:30 and I have scrubbed the floors and run the vacuum on all the carpets and upholstery.  I still have to wipe down the cabinets in the bathroom.

Now I need to go to the market.

More later...

I went to the market  and spent $61.66 on groceries. I knew I was out of everything and I figured it could be that much.

I ate lunch at El Pueblo with Bob and then came home and laid down with Missy and took a short nap.

I was wondering if I should still plan on going to Chanute tomorrow to see Gay and I hadn't heard from Adele. So I called her. She was on her way to Wichita. Gay is on her way there in an ambulance. She had a seizure today and the emergency room doctor said she needed to be in the Wichita hospital because there was a neurologist there and tests showed it was a neurology problem and not a stroke. Seizures can be controlled with medication.

Her husband, Tony, is already there in the hospital because he has had pneumonia. He is on dialysis three days a week this year because his kidneys have failed. They are releasing him today to his daughter who is back here in the area with her husband to take care of him while Gay is incapacitated. Tony was having a problem with his dialyses. They took him off of aspirin because they couldn't get his blood to clot.  Then he developed the pneumonia....probably stress related.  That is why he was in the Wichita hospital.

More later....

I am soaking some beans for tomorrow's lunch. I will fix cornbread too. I will go on to exercise class tomorrow and have the beans cooking in the slow cooker while I am gone.  Then we will have cornbread and beans for lunch tomorrow.

I stayed up and watched "This Old House" this evening with Missy. It's 8:20 now so I will play some form of Solitaire until 9:00 when Missy and I will go to bed.

Wednesday and Juanita's Birthday

I will probably not go to exercise class today. I want to go back to Independence and take Juanita her birthday gift. She is 96 today. I also would like to get my driver's license renewed while I am in Independence. I don't know what that will cost me this time since we also get a new official ID.

I will come back home and cook the meatloaf and baked potatoes. We will also have a veggie and a salad Bob will bring.  I will send him home with some meatloaf and gave some to Marilyn R. Later I will go to Bingo at the senior center.

My social security came in so I am no longer broke. I transferred the money back into my savings that I had borrowed to get through the month. Now I can go to the market too after Bingo. I have quite a list of groceries to buy.

More later....

I went to Independence this morning to get my driver's license renewed and intended to get my passport ordered and take Juanita's birthday gift to her.  I spent some money on all that. The Independence post office sent me to DJ's Photography to get my passport photo taken. He was gone and said he would be back at 2:00. By then, it was time to come home and start lunch.

So I did all that. (His son had hit a deer with his car and he needed to go get him.). Also, I attended Bingo from 1:00 till 2:00 this afternoon.

Afterward, I went back to Independence to try again to get my passport application done. DJ was still gone. So I went on to Juanita's and took her birthday gift to her and stayed awhile to visit. Then I went back to DJ's and he was in this time. I got the photo done and he made my copies as well. I needed a copy of both my birth certificate and driver's license.  Then I went back to the post office and turned in the paperwork for the application for my passport. I paid $110.00 for the passport application and $20.50 for the driver's license. Also $25.00  to the post office for their service. I paid $13.76 for the photo and copies at DJ's. So, I spent some money. It will be 4 to 5 weeks for the passport to arrive with my original birth certificate and 30 days for the new driver's license.

Bob came over at 5:00 to watch the news and left at 6:30. I will take my bath soon and lay down with Missy and watch Nature and Nova.  I will go to bed at 9:00.

Tuesday and a Tour

Today is our tour of the salt mines in Hutchinson. I awoke early again...about 3:00. At 4:00AM I finally just got up. I will dress warmly today. It's forecast to be chilly.

I have dressed for the day, fed Missy and myself. I am watching the weather this morning.

Yesterday evening I had Cox download their support icon on the large laptop computer too. Once a week they tune up the computers that is downloaded on. The cost is $10.00 a month. It's well worth that to have them cleaned up regularly. They schedule that at 5:00 PM on Tuesdays. I may have them download another icon on Bob's computer. They will service four computers for that $10.00 a month. It often needs service and it is one of the computers I leave on all the time. Bob doesn't stay on top of his updates.  Since Keith is out of the country part of each month, I can't trouble him with my computer problems anymore.

Bob will be by to pick me up at 6:45. Then we will pick up Phyllis. It's only 5:30 now so I have plenty of time.

More later..

Bob picked me up and then we went to get Phyllis. After we got to Independence, Bob parked and we soon loaded the bus.  There were 50 of us.

We drove to a truck stop south of Wichita and exchanged buses. The bus had no heat and it had a bad rattle. The second bus was the same type but it did have heat and was not noisy.

Then we went on to Hutchinson and ate a great lunch at an Amish community before we went on to the salt mines.

The tour was interesting but much too long. We were required to wear hard hats and I developed a headache about two thirds way through the tour. Finally I loosened the hard hat and the headache went away.

Here are some photos from the museum.

This is the outside of the museum.

This a huge chuck of salt in the museum.

This is Bob and Phyllis F. in the lobby of the museum.

This is a poster on the wall in the lobby.

This is just one stack of hundreds of files stored there.

We eventually got back home around 7:30. Missy was not happy about being left alone all day. She didn't get her 4:45 treats until 7:45. We were both very tired. Missy and I went to bed at 9:00.

Monday and a Hair Day

I slept fine until 2:00 this morning but then I realized I was going to have another restless night. I got up and took my last Zzzquil.  Then I slept until 6:00. I got up and checked my e-mail and then dressed for the day, fed Missy and myself.

I will leave at 8:00 this morning to have my hair done. Tomorrow is our tour of the Hutchinson Salt Mines so I had to get my hair done this morning.  Besides Kathy and her husband leave this afternoon for Texas to visit their grandchildren there.  She will be back in time for my appointment next week.

I don't have a plan for the rest of the day. I do need to go out to their Walmart after my hair appointment this morning and buy some Russell Stover chocolates for Juanita's 96th birthday on Wednesday. I will go back up there on Wednesday afternoon and take them to her.  I am sending her card off this morning with the church newsletters.

More later...it's getting light outside and Missy will want to go outside if it's not too chilly out there.

Well, she did but it was too chilly out there for her.

I went on to Independence and got my hair done and went to Walmart to get Juanita's candy and got it wrapped when I got home.

Bob came over shortly after 11:00 and I put the soup on to heat and we ate some more of it at lunch. I sent the remainder home with him.

Then after I cleaned up, I laid down with Missy and took a nap.

When I got up I found my birth certificate and put together the packet I will need to get my passport on Wednesday and also renew my driver's license. I hope I have everything I will need.  I will first get my driver's license renewed and then try to get my passport at the Independence post office. I will need to drop by Walgreen's and get a photo taken for that passport.

I also went to the bank and got some money for the trip to Hutchinson tomorrow. Everything should be paid for by the cost of the trip. I paid for that a couple of months ago. The passport will be expensive and I don't know what the driver's license will cost now. That should be all the expense I can stand this month. Next month I will try to get my holiday shopping done.  I leave on December 4th for Florida for Ashley's graduation from college. I will be back a week later on December 11th. I will need to take some money for that. I will need to check my bag and I will take a carry on.  I don't know whether to take my laptop computer or not.  Ginger will make my reservations for that trip.

We finished off the soup at lunch and Bob took the little last bit home for his supper.

Then I laid down with Missy and watched TV and took a nap.

More later...

Bob came about 5:00 to watch the news on TV. After he left  I took my bath and watched TV with Missy until 9:00 when we went to bed.

Sunday and Coffeecake

I did not sleep well last night. I awoke at 2:00 and never could get back to sleep. Finally, I just got up at 4:00. I am dressed and have fed myself and Missy. In a little while, I will put together my coffeecake. Bob and I take turns providing the treat for the Church School classes.  We will go to "Just Us" for lunch after church.

This will be a busy week. Because of the trip to Hutchinson for the salt mines on Tuesday, I will have my hair done tomorrow at 8:30.

For tomorrow's lunch, we will have our vegetable beef soup again.

Besides that, Kathy will be on vacation Tuesday and beyond. They are going to Texas to see their grandchildren.

Wednesday I will go back to exercise class. I will miss tomorrow because of the trip to Independence for my hair.

Thursday is always apartment cleaning day.

So more later...the newspaper is here.

I have read the newspaper and made the coffeecake.  It is in the oven now. I think I have about 20 minutes left  for it to bake and then it will have to cool before I ice it. Actually I just glaze it.

So more later...

The coffeecake turned out well. And I picked up Bob and Phyllis F at almost 9:00 and we went on to church school and church. We had 18 even though four of our number were not there. Rick and Carmen were back too.

After church, we went over to Cherryvale to eat at "Just Us".

Afterward, I worked on my newsletters and also took a nap with Missy.

More later...

Bob came over at 5:00 and watched the news and then 60 Minutes with me. When he left at 7:00, I gave him half of the coffeecake that was left at church. I took my bath and got ready for bed. I will try to stay up until 9:00 since I had a nap this afternoon.
