Another Saturday

The week's fly by...another sign of old age,, I guess. Here it is Saturday again. I will go with Bob to breakfast at 7:00 or around that. I saw Cyndi and Jeff at the Countrytime Mall yesterday. I was bored so I went over there to look around. They were adding stuff to their booth. They are moving to Claremore in a month or so. They have sold their Willow Street house. They still have their Jefferson house. After they close on the Claremore house they will put the Jefferson house back on the market. I can't keep up with them. Last I heard they wanted to sell both houses so they could buy an RV and travel.

I don't know what I will do today. My left arm woke me up at 2:30 AM and I wasn't able to get back to sleep after that. I finally got up shortly before 4:00 AM. I am sitting here drinking some leftover coffee from yesterday morning.

I have been reading this book called "The Myth of Persecution" by Candita Moss. She is Professor of New Testament and Early Christianity at the University of Notre Dame. The book proposes that the early church's widespread Christian persecution the church has taught for hundreds of years is based simply on myth. There was some persecution but nothing like the church fathers described. She makes a strong argument. She is certainly an expert on early Christianity. It's an interesting book.

Exercise Friday

Today is another exercise day. That is probably a good thing for me although it bores me to death. I wish they had several exercise tapes instead of just the one. I slept well last night and my arms did not ache.

I drove up to Independence this morning to get my hair done. It rained a little again last night. I am thoroughly sick of rain. I think clear skies are due all week next week. That will be good. They just get the grass mowed here and then it rains again and it just grows like weeds again. It really needs mowing again right now and they've already mowed once this week.

It's nice mild weather though. We haven't had much hot weather this summer. I imagine we'll have a bad winter.

For dinner/lunch today we are having Judy's tater tot casserole. I thawed the hamburger meat in the frig overnight and went to Country Mart yesterday to pick up the ingredients I didn't have.

More later....

Our tater tot casserole turned out real good and Bob brought a salad. We had the last of the cupcakes for dessert.

I tried to take a nap but if I got one it was only a half hour long. I don't know what I will do the rest of the afternoon. It's only 2:20. And there's nothing on TV this afternoon or this evening.

Nice Thursday

It's nice today and I have been sitting outside waiting for the sun to come up. Bob came over and we visited awhile. We will go to Cherryvale to Just Us for lunch today. It's somewhat of a change from eating my own cooking. I do get tired of my own cooking.

I need to vacuum this morning. I have been putting it off for several days. For one thing, I like to do it early in the morning but my vacuum makes quite a bit of noise and I live in a fourplex now. So I need to wait until later in the morning to do that. I get busy with other stuff and never get to it nowadays. I used to vacuum once a week whether it needed it or not. :)

I need to go to the bank. I am low on cash for lunch. I will also need some more cash for my hair appointment in the morning and breakfast on Saturday morning. My bills are all paid so I am o.k. with that.

I had a leftover biscuit for breakfast this morning. I see I forgot to take my blood pressure pill though. I leave the bottle sitting out on the edge of the counter until I take it so I won't forget it. That didn't help a bit. Well, I've taken it now.

I see in the Chronicle that the Cherry Blossom Festival over at Cherryvale has been rescheduled for September 7th. I always like to go to that if only to just look around. I forget why they had to reschedule it from the spring.

Chilly Wednesday

I never thought I would ever be able to say this about August in Kansas but it's actually chilly this morning. What strange weather. It's supposed to get "up" in the 80's today. Later this morning Bob and I will go to exercise class.

If you're wondering, yes, I did resign from the library board last night. They were surprised but didn't really seem to care at lot...which is fine with me. They will find someone else to take the position.

My arms have been hurting some lately again but not bad enough to try another doctor or test. I've given them the best shot at diagnosing it. None of them can so I will just put up with it.

I forgot to pick up my thyroid med yesterday. I will get it later this morning. I still have four or five. I just renew it before I run completely out.

I had some more laptop computer problems this morning but I think I have them fixed now. I ran Glary Utilities and that usually does it. Then I rebooted a couple of times. It's running alright now. I dread having to buy another laptop and I really don't have to since I have the desktop in the den but I really prefer my laptop.

I think we will have tuna a la king for dinner/lunch today. That's easy and I love easy dinners. Here's the recipe.

1/2 cup sliced celery

2 T chopped onion

1 T oleo or margarine

1 can (10 1/2 ounces) condensed cream of mushroom soup

1/2 C. milk

1 can (7 1/2 ounces) tuna drained and flaked

2 T chopped pimiento

chopped parsley

4 biscuits ( I buy the small cans that make six)

In saucepan, cook celery and onion in butter until tender. Blend in soup, gradually stir in milk. Add tuna and pimiento. Heat; stir now and then. Garnish with parsley. Serve over biscuits or toast. 4 servings.

Sometimes, if I have some leftover frozen peas, I will toss them in too.

Serve with a small side salad.

More later....

Cake Tuesday Again

We've had a hiatus from taking cakes to Independence but our time finally came again. I will do that today and while I am there I will go to their Wal Mart store and pick up a few groceries I need. I will stop on the way to Independence and take all the sacks I've saved for Cyndi to the church. She is having a rummage sale there on the first Saturday in September and can use my sacks.

We will have leftover hamburger pie, coleslaw and green beans for lunch today. I have made some cupcakes too. That will be dessert.

Tonight I have library board meeting. I intend to resign from the library board. I asked not to be elected secretary and they elected me anyhow. I guess the only way to get out of the job is to just resign.

More later...

Judy's Hamburger Pie Recipe.

1 lb hamburger

1 small onion, chopped

1 small green pepper, chopped

1/2 t salt

Dash pepper

1/2 t minced garlic

1 t oregano

4 or 5 drops of hot pepper sauce (can use more if you like)

1 1/2 cups cheddar cheese, shredded ( or any kind you like)

1/2 c. Bisquick

1 c. milk

2 eggs

Preheat oven to 400 degrees. In a skillet, brown the hamburger, onion, and green pepper with the salt, pepper, garlic, oregano and hot sauce. Drain the hamburger mixture. Spray a 10 inch pie dish and spread the hamburger mixture in the bottom of the dish. Sprinkle 1 cup of the shredded cheese over the hamburger. In a small bowl, mix the Bisquick, milk and eggs. Whisk together until smooth. Pour over the hamburger and cheese. Sprinkle the last 1/2 cup of shredded cheese over the mixture. Bake for 25 minutes. (I use the packaged four cheese mixture and it turned out great.) Add a salad and you have a meal. I also fixed green beans separately with mine.

Another Rainy Monday

It's another rainy Monday but we didn't let that keep us from the exercise class. After that we went to Utopia for coffee and a blueberry scone. Then I came home and fixed lunch. We had hamburger pie and green beans and coleslaw and everything was very good.

This afternoon I am making my two cakes for tomorrow at Independence. I am also making some cupcakes for us. I tried to take a nap but didn't really want to do that until my cakes were done and cooling. After they are cooled I will ice them and get them covered. I haven't seen any more flies in the house but I sure don't want to leave them uncovered.

This evening I have library board meeting. I dread that. Everyone speaks in very soft voices and I cannot understand what they are saying.

Karan called awhile ago and she has her cake done. She will bring it over in awhile. The rain has momentarily stopped.

More later...

Bobby brought Karan's cake over later. I stayed up to watch the show on reptiles. It was interesting. I got too tired too early to watch the second one though. My arm was hurting so I took an Aleve and went to bed right after 9:00.

Sunday...and Church

Today is Sunday and we will go to church this morning and afterward we will eat out somewhere. I will vote for Sirloin Stockade. I really don't want much though because tonight we have Living the Questions group at Jack and Marilyn's again. This evening we will have a hamburger cookout. That's a lot of food in one day for me.

We will also take cakes to Independence again this Tuesday so I will bake two cakes tomorrow. This will be a busy week. I also have library board meeting on Tuesday evening. What with exercise class Monday, Wednesday and Friday, and cooking lunch that pretty much fills my week.

I will do my Sunday newsletters after lunch today.

More later....

We had a nice crowd at church school and church today and even seven children. After church we did not eat out. Bob and I have a cookout we're invited to this evening and neither of us wanted to overdo it.

After church, I did my weekly newsletter and am preparing to take a nap. First I will get my tomatoes sliced for the cookout. I also will load up the rest of the condiments that I was asked to bring in a sack. That way I will be ready. I also need to go to the market and buy some more stamps.

We had a nice crowd at LTQ tonight. Mona and Richard brought Mona's niece and nephew from Egypt and also their son. Bobby and Karan were there as was Barbara. Mewa was there to help Marilyn. Keith and Joyce cooked hamburgers on the grill. Everyone brought something. Bob and I brought the condiments. Jack seems to be coping and Marilyn quietly does that too. Thank goodness for the help they get getting Jack up and around and to bed in the evening. Jack can no longer walk.
