Thursday and a Trip to Independence, Missouri

I slept  well last night after I took an allergy pill. I had awakened at 1:00AM with my sinus's going crazy draining. I knew I would not sleep longer if I could not get my allergies under control so I got up and took an allergy pill.  That worked, I slept better then I have in weeks. I was up at 5:30AM and got myself ready for our trip and finished packing for the weekend. I haven't had my breakfast yet but that's next on the agenda.

Leslie is to be here on or about 10:00AM this morning to pick me up.

It looks like I have packed for a week instead of just over three days. It's 6:42AM and I will go fix my breakfast now.

So More Later...

It's 7:04AM now and when I opened the front door, both cats were there waiting for their breakfasts so I took it out to them. It's the last meal on me they will get until next Sunday afternoon sometime when we return.

I will take my breakfast in the living room and turn on the TV to catch the weather forecast.

More later here...

I did catch "the weather on the 8's"

Today is to be 89 degrees and partly cloudy.  Friday is to be 92 degrees and partly cloudy, Saturday is to be 95 degrees and sunny, Sunday is to be 98 degrees and sunny, Monday is to be 101degrees and sunny, Tuesday is to be 101 degrees and sunny, Wednesday is to be 92 degrees and sunny. Again, no rain in the forecast.

It's 7:30AM now and I will take my walk now. I have plenty of time until Leslie comes in to get me.

It's 7:58AM now and I just had my eight block walk. It gets easier every time I do it. People in cars are so friendly they wave at me as I walk.

I guess I will go read until she comes. I have a couple of hours. I have taken my trash bag out and taken my luggage to the front door. Probably no more posts until Sunday evening.

Leslie just called and she is ready to go too. She said she would leave in the next few moments to pick me up. She lives about a twenty minutes away from me so it will be a little while before she gets here. So goodbye until next Sunday sometime.

Wednesday and My Hairdo

I slept fairly well but was up shortly before 5:00AM anyhow. I made my bed and got myself ready for the day. I checked my bank account and my social security had come in. Thank goodness.

I will make my breakfast now. So more later..

When it gets light...about 7:00AM, I will take my walk. But first, I will check "the weather on the 8's" and see about the cats. It's early now but I will check them out about 6:30AM.

The weather finally came on. Today is forecast to be 92 degrees and sunny, Thursday will be 90 degrees and mostly cloudy, Friday is to be 92 degrees and mostly sunny, Saturday is to be 95 degrees and mostly sunny, Sunday 98 degrees and sunny, Monday is forecast to be 100 degrees and sunny and Tuesday is to be 100 degrees too and sunny. Lots of hot weather and no rain.

Leslie and I will be leaving tomorrow at 10:00AM and gone tomorrow, Friday and Saturday and will be coming back home on Sunday. I don't know what the weather will be like in Independence, Missouri, but surely it won't be that hot that far north. We will see. One thing is for sure, it will be very hot here and undoubtedly my flowers will not make it without me being here to water them morning and evening.

I took a look at the west yard yesterday and decided it did not need to be  mowed. So I  will mow it when we get back from our trip. It should need it by then.

Both cats are out there eating now. At first Scruff was the only one waiting for her breakfast but by the time I got back in the house, Blondie was out there too. They seem to be finished now... but I will leave the food out there a little longer just to be sure.

It's 6:30AM now.

In about 15 minutes..or when it gets light out, I will take my walk. 7:00AM should be light. ..unless it's cloudy. I did bring the cat food into the garage and cover it. They were both gone. Generally if Scruff is going to eat more, she lays under the hedge and waits until I start to take the food in and then (and only then) she decides she wants more food.

 More Even Later...

7:00AM was a good time to take my eight block walk today. It gets easier every day. I really enjoyed the cool morning this morning. Before I left, I watered the back yard flowerbed. In a couple of more weeks of eight blocks, I intend to go to ten blocks. It's 7:35AM now. So it takes me longer to make eight blocks. I walk up to the post office block, west to the library and then turn south there on State and go the last four blocks to 8th. When I make it ten blocks, I will walk downtown to the corner on fourth where the Mexican restaurant is and turn west to the old Blackledge building on fourth and State then turn south on State and walk back to 8th. It will be a couple of more weeks of eight blocks before I do the ten blocks though. I am out of the habit of walking like I did when I lived on Catalina and at the fourplex in Coffeyville.

More Later...It's 7:45AM now and I will leave for Coffeyville about 8:15AM or 8:30AM. I want to stop at the bank and get money for my hair and then stop at the Medicine Shoppe before I come home and pick up my other prescription. I will also get a pedicure today. It has been months since I have had one. And since Toni wouldn't charge me for my color and cut, I had the money to get it.

So more later...after I get home.

I stopped and got the pedicure after I got my hair done. I got home about  11:30AM and stopped at Sonic and bought the kid's Wacky Pack for my lunch. On Wednesdays it's $2.18 for two chicken strips and french fries and a tiny coke..It make a nice lunch for me and I save the little toys for Leeann. She uses them for prizes for the kids's games.

Karan told me my son-in-law quit reading this blog. That's fine. I do it as a journal for me without having to write in a book. Several people read it and that's fine. I read theirs too. Those folks were so supportive while my Bob was sick that if they are interested in this blog, that's fine with me.

More later..I am going to go read awhile.

I read until 6:30PM and then I decided to take my bath and put my pajamas and duster on. I will be up early again and finish my packing for the trip to Independence, Missouri before Leslie gets here at 10:00AM to pick me up. I will read some more until bedtime at 9:00PM or so.

I did go out back and pick up several dozen leaves from my south neighbor's tree and put them in a plastic bag.. The front yard is covered with leaves from my north neighbor's tree across the street. After I get back from our trip, I will start raking those into piles and pick them up and bag them and put them in the trash receptacle. That will be an all fall job....but good bending exercise.

I'll get back to this in the morning after I finish getting packed.

Tuesday and a Trip to Independence Kansas

I slept fairly well last night although I was up earlier then I wanted. It's 5:02AM now and I am eating my breakfast here while I blog. I made my bed, dressed and got myself ready for the day.

Today I will take the cookies we are donating up to the First Christian Church in Independence for their supper at the church tonight. Since the pandemic, their crowd has shrunk and instead of feeding 250 folks, they are feeding more like 80. So they are just wanting store bought cookies instead of cakes for their light dessert. Our people will buy three packages apiece of store bought cookies for that Tuesday meal. I have several sacks of cookies to give them today and then after that I will go by Walgreens and pick up my prescription there before I come back home.

I may call Joanne Stoner and see if she wants to visit and perhaps even have lunch with me. It won't hurt to ask. I stayed with Reg and her when I used to go to John Whitmer Historical Association in Independence, Missouri. She lost Reg last February so she sold her house there and moved to Independence, Kansas, to be near her son, Paul, and his wife and the two grandchildren. I imagine the girl has graduated from college and her brother may still be in college. They grow up so fast.

It's 5:25AM now and I will go check on "the weather on the 8's" and eventually, the cats. It's a little early for them now.

If the weather stays mild, I may mow the west side of my yard this evening. That's all I have left to do except for the trimming.

I finally found the "weather on the 8's". Today is to be 92 degrees and sunny, Tomorrow is to be 92 degrees and sunny, Thursday is to be 91 degrees and partly cloudy, Friday is to be 93 degrees and sunny, Saturday is to be 94 degrees and mostly sunny, Sunday is to be 97 degrees and sunny and Monday is to be 97 degrees and mostly sunny. No rain in next week's forecast either...and more very hot weather.

Now I will check again on the cats.

The cats finally came and I fed them and when they were finished, I put the cat food back in the garage and covered it.

So more later...

About 8:45AM, I left for Independence. I first took the cookies to the First Christian Church and after I got them there and unloaded to their kitchen, I went to Walgreens and picked up my prescription.

After I left there, I tried to call Joanne Stoner but she didn't pick up so I left her a message.I wanted to find out if she had moved to the Booth into that apartment she had leased. She called me back when I was close to Leslie and John's so I pulled into their drive and answered her call. I didn't want to do that while I was driving. She had learned the Booth building had sold and they gave her back her deposit and first month's rent.

That left her without a place to move into in Independence. Luckily Paul, her son, was still working on redoing a house for his family and had been working on it for several years and since it was basically finished, she moved in there. That's temporary, of course. There are some fairly new apartments out by the country club there and she is hoping to find one of those. There's not too much available in Independence to rent...at least nothing nice except those. We chatted awhile and then she had to go to meet her daughter-in-law for lunch.

When I got back home and after resting awhile, I took my eight block walk. It was warmer then usual and I got back home more tired.  I usually take my walk about 7:00AM instead of 10:30AM.

Speaking of lunch, I still have half of my brisket sandwich I had left from Dink's yesterday in Bartlesville. I will warm that up for my lunch.

So,more later...

Jess,Nancy's old friend, came to check on me and ask about Nancy. He has been having some heart problems and he's just 81.

When I see her next Monday, I will tell her about it.

I had that half brisket sandwich from Dink's for my lunch. It was still very good!

I read all afternoon. Then I went up to the Mr. G's and bought a small butter pecan flurry to supplement my small dinner. Those are so good. They are only $3.65 too.

It's 6:02PM now and I will watch the news and then take my bath and put my pajamas on and my duster.

At 9:00PM, I will go to bed.

Monday and a Visit With Nancy

I slept pretty well last night although I woke up earlier then I wanted. It's just now 4:35AM but I went to bed at 9:00PM so I got my sleep out. I did some tossing and turning trying to relax and get back to sleep and finally just gave up and got up.

I need to get my two prescriptions refilled this week before Leslie and I leave for Independence, Missouri on Thursday. I will be in Independence, Kansas, tomorrow morning to take the cookies up to the First Christian Church there for their Tuesday evening dinner. I will get my thyroid med at Walgreen's there then. And I will be in Coffeyville on Wednesday for my hair appointment. So I will pick up my Medicine Shoppe blood pressure prescription then. But I need to call doctor Christensen's office in Coffeyville this morning to get Lori to refill them both.

When their office opens at 9:00AM, I will call them and ask them to have Lori to refill them. It's almost 6:00AM now.

More later...

If it's as nice this evening as it was last evening, I plan to mow the back yard this evening.

I caught "the weather on the 8's" at 6:18AM.  Here is the forecast for the next week. Today is forecast for 87 degrees and sunny, Tuesday is to be 92 degrees and sunny, Wednesday is to be 93 degrees and sunny, Thursday is to be 92 degrees and mostly sunny, Friday is to be 93 degrees and sunny, Saturday is forecast to be 94 degrees and mostly sunny, and Sunday is to be 96 degrees and sunny. No rain in the forecast next week either.

That's it for the next week...

Leslie and I will be leaving for  Independence, Missouri on Thursday and will be gone until next Sunday so I will not be blogging until the next Monday.

I will check on the cats now. It is 6:30AM and they may be there now.

Sure enough...they were both there so I took their food out to them and  they are eating now.

When it gets light, I will go water the flowerbeds.

I went back to reading my Kindle until 8:00AM when I went out to water the flowerbeds.

It's pretty chilly this morning so I will put on a sweater and go take my walk.

So, more later...

I walked my 8 blocks again this morning. It's 55 degrees out there now so I wore my sweater. It felt good! It's getting easier and easier to walk now that I am doing nearly every day. I skipped yesterday.

Another 15 minutes and the doctor's office should be open and I can hopefully get my prescriptions refilled.

I managed that. I will pick up the one at Walgreen's tomorrow at Independence, Kansas. Then Wednesday I will get the one from Medicine Shoppe in Coffeyville. They both have discounts though different discounts.

I got down to see Nancy about 10:30AM after I got my car washed and cleaned out at Mr. Kleen in Bartlesville. We ate lunch at Dink's Bar B Q in Bartlesville. It is always very good. Then we took a long drive. She really enjoys getting out of that place for an afternoon.

I got home about 5:15PM. I may mow now if it isn't too hot. The temp says 87 degrees. We will see.

It's 6:08PM now and I just finished mowing the back yard. I will need to trim sometime too but not tonight. I just have one small bag of leaves so I just left the bag until I can do the west side yard. That will give me a full bag. I may do that tomorrow evening if it's not too hot. It's 86 degrees now and the slight breeze makes it even better.

More even later..

It's a little after 7:00PM and I am going to take my bath and put my pajamas and duster on and read until bedtime.

Sunday and Church

I was up early again this morning. I woke up before 5:00AM and tried to relax and get back to sleep but I had had my sleep out. I went to bed at 9:00PM. I was very tired although I hadn't done much of anything yesterday except go out to the  kid's and visit and go get those blizzards. And read, as usual.

I thought about mowing because I thought it might rain this morning but I talked myself out of it. I saw one man mowing his and that almost convinced me. It was last Monday when I mowed the front yard. Then on Tuesday I mowed the back and Wednesday I mowed the west side. If it doesn't rain I will mow the front tomorrow evening. I always wait until 7:00PM or so after it cools down.

The problem with my front yard is that at this time of year the tree in the south side of the yard of my neighbor to the north sheds it's leaves and they fall into my front yard making a terrible mess. I usually end up eventually raking them and putting them in my yard bag and in the trash.

I will go out to church about 10:00AM this morning so I can sweep out any bugs that might have crawled under the front door. And I sweep off the walks too.

I will fix my breakfast now and my cappuccino and later my Chai Latte.

I have had my breakfast now and it's nearly 6:00AM so I will go turn on the weather and see what today's forecast is.

I caught the weather forecast and this is what to expect. Today will be 81 degrees and sunny, Monday will be 88 degrees and sunny, Tuesday will be 92 degrees and sunny, Wednesday is to be 93 degrees and sunny, Thursday is to be 91 degrees partly cloudy, and Friday is to be 93 degrees and sunny, Saturday is to be 93 degrees and partly cloudy.

It's 6:20AM now and I will go check if the cats are out there.

Both cats were there when I opened the door at 6:50AM so I took their food out to them. They seem to be getting along this morning without quarreling. Scruff keeps trying to move Blondie out of her way. She thinks his food is better then her own. So far, he is being patient with her. In fact, he has gone now and she seems to be leaving too. I will leave the food out there for a little while in case she didn't get enough to eat. Blondie probably ate at home earlier but I don't think anyone else feeds Scruff.

This is the 21st anniversary of the 9/11 tragedy. Bob was called up for the Red Cross as a chaplain and sent there as soon as planes could fly again. They stayed for four weeks. The Campbells from Independence, Kansas, were sent too. In February they sent Bob back for another three weeks.

More even later...It's 7:27AM now.

I read until 9:30AM and then went on to the church and swept up what bugs were in the foyer and swept off the sidewalks.

Karan had a fine service. First Leslie played the interview they did with Bob and the Campbells when they returned from the 9:11 disaster. The Red Cross had sent them there after the planes began to fly again. They stayed four weeks and then they sent Bob again the following February for another three weeks. He was a chaplain.  When he got back home they had a press conference and an interview with the TV stations in our area. Scott managed to get KOTV to send both of us that interview on a thumb drive. Scott sent a copy of it to Keith and I gave Leslie a copy of mine.

After church, Phyllis and I went to"Just Us" for lunch. They had my rhubarb pie for dessert and I put ice cream on it and ate it that way. The others went to El Pueblo for lunch. I just wasn't in the mood for Mexican food and Phyllis always likes to go to "Just Us" too. So I called Kay and she reserved us a table. Every place in the parking lot was full except one and I took it. We had a very good meal and dessert for $13.00.

Then I came back home. I got back home at 2:20 after taking Phyllis back to the church's parking lot to pick up her car.

More later...After awhile, after it cools down a bit, I may mow the front yard.

I read again this afternoon and then I noticed the next thing on was football (the Chiefs vs Arizona) so I decided while it was fairly nice, I would mow that front yard. It took me about 30 minutes but I got it done. I got a ton of leaves too from that neighbor's tree across the street.

If it's this nice tomorrow, I will mow the back yard.

More even later....

I watched 60 Minutes instead of the Mission Center worship service this evening..It was about the 343 firefighters who died in the 9/11 catastrophe. Scott Pellie interviewed those that survived. Some died in the collapse of the buildings. Scott asked one of those in charge how many firefighters chose not to go in those buildings. He said no one refused to go. They all went.

It was one of their best shows. I recorded it and will keep it for awhile. It was very touching. He also interviewed the children of those who died there who were now grown men...many of them now firefighters.

It's 7:43PM now and I am going to take my bath and put my pajamas and duster on and read some more until bedtime.
