Saturday and Lunch and a Movie

I slept very well last night and was only up one time and took my two meds. Then I went back to bed and right back to sleep. I was up at 5:00AM as usual, made my bed and dressed and got myself ready for the day.

Leslie had called me yesterday and asked me to come out at 11:30AM and we would go to Big Cheese in Independence and have lunch and then go see a movie about Jesus at the Independence Cinema at 1:00PM  That sounded like something good to do so I will go out to their place at 11:30AM and pick her up and we will do that. It has been ages since I have been to a movie.

I have fixed my breakfast and am eating it here in the den while I blog. I am finished now.

I have had some interesting experiences lately. A couple of weeks ago on Monday, Nancy and I went to the Boulevard Cafe there in Bartlesville just off Tuxedo Boulevard meeting Sally for lunch.  I had set out my debit card to pay for our lunch and so did Sally and the waitress gave us back out debit cards and said "those three men paid for all your lunches". By this time they were gone so we couldn't even thank them. We thought that was very nice since we hadn't said anything to them or even given them the time of day.

Then about a week later, I was out to our Eggbert's having their senior small chef salad for my lunch and I laid out my debit card to pay for it and the waitress there said "one of those men bought your lunch". I said "which one?" because I wanted to thank him. She said he said "don't tell her it was me".

Then yesterday I drove down to the Copan Restaurant and had a bowl of their delicious beef and vegetable soup and ice tea. I took my ticket to the cashier and a man about my size was before me in line. He stepped back and said, "why don't you go first" I thanked him and stepped up to the cashier. Then the man said, "put that man and his daughter's lunch on my tab". There was a man sitting at the large table there in front of the restaurant with a woman who was obviously his daughter and he was holding a small boy probably not even two years old.  The cashier stepped over there and picked up their tab and he paid it. Then he told the cashier.."pay her's too". And he bought my lunch. I thanked him and told him he and I may be in the same generation. He said "I am in my 70's" and I said "then I have at least ten years on you".  He said "I spent way too many years in the marine corps". I had noticed he had a pin on his jacket that said USMC.  Both he and the boy cashier said I certainly didn't look like I was in my 80's. I thanked them for saying so but I said "I look in the mirror every morning and see an old woman". So I have had some interesting experiences with some nice and generous men lately.

It's 6:42AM now and the cats may be out there. I will check.

Both cats were out there wanting their breakfast. I took it out to them and they dug in. They ate quickly and left. It's 31 degrees out there and they are probably wanting to get out of the cold. They can get under that old vacant house on the corner of 8th and State... catty wampus from mine. That's probably where they went. I will wait awhile and then take the food back in the garage and cover it if they don't come back for more food.

The weather forecast did come on and I took a photo of it with my phone.

Today will be 50 degrees and cloudy with rain later this evening. Sunday is to be 61 degrees and cloudy, Monday is to be 70 degrees and sunny, Tuesday is to be 68 degrees and sunny, Wednesday is to be 63 degrees and partly cloudy, Thursday is to be 51 degrees and mostly cloudy, Friday is to be 53 degrees and mostly sunny. It looks like spring weather most of next week.  I won't complain. I will get to take my walks.

I think the cats are gone for good. I will take the cat food in the garage and cover it.

More Later...

I was trying to order something from Amazon and I lost the internet connection of both computers so I rebooted them both.   That didn't help.I still didn't have the internet so I called Amazon again. While I was waiting for someone to answer my call, both computers  found the internet. So I hung up.

I am doing some laundry this morning..primarily my underwear and pajamas. I may toss the towels in there too. I did that and got the laundry finished too.

About 11:00AM, I left for Leslie's and to see the movie at 1:00PM. First we went to Big Cheese and had a personal pan pizza and a drink each.

Unfortunately the movie didn't start until 3:00PM so we window shopped at the hardware/gift shop. Then we went over to the theater closer to 3:00PM and watched it. It was based on the true revolution in the 70's where many beatniks became "Jesus freaks".  It was interesting probably because I was old enough to remember that era. I enjoyed it and I think Leslie did too.

I got home about 5:30PM or so and read until 7:00PM when I took my bath and finished this blog. It's 7:22PM now and I want to read until 9:00PM..my regular bedtime.

Friday Morning and Dusting

I slept really well last night and didn't even have to take an allergy pill. I was up shortly before 5:00AM. I made my bed and dressed and got myself ready for the day. I have fixed my breakfast and am eating it here in the den. It's only 5:45AM now and the cats are probably not out front yet.

I never got the dusting done yesterday because I read instead. So I will do it this morning. Since I do it every week, it seldom gets very dusty. But I am allergic to house dust as well as lots of other things..... cigarette smoke, oak trees, milk,  among other things.

I want to check the weather forecast and the cats.

"The weather on the 8's" isn't on yet but both cats were out there. Blondie has eaten and left and Scruff is still out there but is no longer eating. She appears to be looking for Blondie. Now she is gone too. It's very cold out there. The computer says 23 degrees. They are probably looking for some kind of warmer shelter. Maybe the forecast will come on at 6:08AM  It's only 6:05AM now.

The forecast came on at 6:18AM. Today is to be 37 degrees and cloudy, Saturday is to be 52 degrees and cloudy, Sunday is to be 62 degrees and PM showers. Monday is to be 66 degrees and sunny, Tuesday is to be 66 degrees and sunny, Wednesday is to be 65 degrees and partly cloudy and Thursday is to be 55 degrees and cloudy. That's it for the next week..one day of rain and that's on Sunday afternoon.

More Later...

I went back to reading the first library book I checked out yesterday afternoon here in Caney and I finished it. Then I dusted the apartment thoroughly.

Leslie called me a little bit ago and invited me to go to a matinee at the Independence movie theater tomorrow afternoon with her. I am to pick her up at 11:30 tomorrow morning and we will eat lunch at Big Cheese in Independence first. The movie starts at 1:00PM.

That will be something different to do and with Leslie too!

I went over to Coffeyville to go to their library and return a book I had checked out. While I was in Coffeyville I dropped by my eye doctor, Mrs. Dobbins and paid the $110.00 (that's not in my budget) I still owed on her bill after Medicare used the rest to apply toward their deductible. I ordered another six months worth of contacts and they should be in in five days or so. (That's another $85.00 that isn't in my budget.) Thank goodness Esther sent me a couple hundred dollars extra this month. That will take care of those two bills.

I had no TV this evening so I called Cox once again.  The tech spent thirty minutes trying to figure out what was wrong. Finally he had me push input button and we saw that somehow the input had changed and was on HDMI3 instead of HDMI2. How that happened I don't have  a clue. I don't mess with any settings on the remote because I have no idea what the various settings are used for. I use the TV power button and the guide button that allows me to change to the different channels and the Tivo button and the red "record" button that lets record and watch what I have recorded and also the large button at the top of my remote to access what is on the Amazon Prime channel...movies and TV shows they offer.  And I also use the "select" button to tune in those various channels I can select. But there are several other buttons I never touch like the "Zoom" button, the "live TV" button, the "info" button, there is also some "a.b.c. and d" buttons. I have no idea what they control. There's also a "slow" button I have never used too and two larger buttons that show a "thumbs up" and "thumbs down" that I am not familiar with.

I took my bath at 7:00PM this evening and put on my pajamas and robe. There's nothing on TV that I am interested in watching this evening. Basically I watch the "evening CBS news", "60 Minutes" and the weather forecasts. I also watch pro golf and football when they are in season. Anything else that I record on the Tivo, I just fast forward the commercials. I don't know of any programing other then those few that I am interested in. There's an awful lot of junk programming any more. Most of it is awful. That's why I only have the very basic TV channels...the weather channel, the networks ABC, NBC, and CBS..I also have the music channels but I never listen to them. I have Bob's Bose system and tons of CDs if I want music. Usually I just ask Alexa to play some that I like.

By the way..I did do the dusting today in my "spare" time.

It's 7:53 now and I will read on the books I checked out at the library today until 9:00PM when I plan to go to bed.

A Bedtime Mystery on Thursday Morning

At 3:15AM on Thursday morning I woke up thinking about going to the bathroom and was thinking about taking my meds as I usually do in the middle of the night. As I was considering that, the doorbell rang. I got out of bed as quickly as I could and quickly put my robe on and went to open the door. The outside security light was on so I knew it was not my imagination but by then there was no one there. Strange.....but unexplained. I came in here at the laptop computer to make this note of the incident. It was 3:34AM on Thursday by this time but the mystery was not solved.

So I went on back to bed at 3:43AM.

Then I finally got up at 5:00AM..my usual time to get up and start my day. This is generally my apartment cleaning day but I am still mulling over the mystery of the doorbell early this morning. It hasn't happened again since that occurrence earlier. I will probably not be able to explain it. If the security light had not been on I would probably laid it on to an active imagination.

Anyhow it's 5:30AM now and I will fix myself some breakfast and later...start my mopping. I should go ahead and clean since that's my usual chore on Thursdays.

Both cats came for their breakfast this morning so I took their food out to them and they dug in. That's the first time in a few days they both have been here at the same time. And they both have eaten a lot. Blondie is gone now but Scruff is still out there.

I have finished my breakfast except for my coffee and Chai Latte. It's 23 degrees out there and now both cats are gone.

I am still waiting for "the weather on the 8's".

It finally came on and I got the forecast on my phone. Today is to be 41 degrees and sunny, Friday is to be 42 degrees and cloudy, Saturday is to be 51 degrees and cloudy, Sunday is to be 66 degrees and scattered thundershowers. Monday is to be 64 degrees and sunny, Tuesday is to be 64 degrees and mostly sunny, Wednesday is to be 67 degrees and mostly cloudy. It looks like Sunday is the only chance of rain this next week.

More Later...

I have been reading most of the morning on the library book I checked out yesterday at the Coffeyville library. I finished it...another of my murder mysteries. It was very interesting! Another classic murder mystery. I say it's a classic because I couldn't figure out the killer.

It's 10:22AM now and I will start thinking about going to the Caney library and finding more of the same. As long as it's cold and winter time I will be reading a lot.

I am not sure what I am going to do for lunch. I may go back to Copan Restaurant or I may just have a peanut butter and jelly sandwich....actually what really sounds good is a Big Cheese pizza. It's been awhile since I've had one.

I didn't want to drive to Independence to eat a Big Cheese pizza so I went to the local Eggbert's and had their honey chicken salad and iced tea. It is always real good. Then I went to the library here and checked out two more books.

I am going to clean the apartment after all.I have just finished mopping the floors and am waiting for them to dry before I begin my vacuuming and dusting.I will begin in my bedroom and the hall and then the den. Last of all the living room and dining room.

I got all the vacuuming finished and all I have to do now is dust. I may do that tomorrow. Or after the vacuum charges, I may be ready to dust today. I cleaned out the filter and am charging it now. It's 2:10PM now and I may read one of the library books I checked out at the library here this afternoon after lunch.

I went down to Mr. G's and bought a small butter pecan flurry. But just before I did that, my phone rang and it was Keith calling and I pulled into the parking at the park to talk to him. We had a nice long visit while I was sitting there in the car. When he had to hang up, I went ahead and bought my flurry and ate it at the park and put the cup into their trash..

I have read on the Caney library books most of the afternoon. I am most of the way through the first one. It's almost 7:00PM now so I will take my bath and put my pajamas and robe on and will continue reading until 9:00PM and then go on to bed.

Wednesday and a Hair Appointment and Game Day

I slept poorly until 3:00AM and that was because my sinus' were draining. I finally got up and took my two meds and then an allergy pill. Soon I was sound asleep. I woke up again at 5:30AM  It helps if I can get the drainage stopped. I dressed and made my bed and got myself ready for the day, By then it was after 6:00AM and I opened the front door to a waiting Scruff. I took her food out to her and came into the den to get my laptop computer.  I will turn on the TV next and see if I can find the "weather on the 8's".

She ate fast and left and Blondie didn't come so I brought the cat food into the kitchen to see if Blondie would eventually come eat. So far not yet.

I have fixed my own breakfast and are in the process of eating it herein the living room.

I did catch the weather forecast though. Today will be 71 degrees and showers and wind. Thursday will be 43 degrees and sunny, Friday will be 40 degrees and mostly cloudy, Saturday is to be 55 degrees and cloudy,  Sunday is to be 65 degrees and scattered thunderstorms , Monday is to be 64 degrees and sunny, Tuesday is to be 64 degrees and mostly sunny. That's the week...Wednesday and Sunday rain!  That's better then nothing! We still need the rain.

It's getting light now and it's 7:08AM.  My hair appointment is at 8:30AM so I will need to leave here at 7:45AM so I will need to get busy on my food.

I got to my hair appointment even with the rain and Toni got it done. Then I went to the library and checked out a book to read at the library. I made it for 30 minutes but there was quite a bit of noise there  with a couple putting away books so I left and went to read in my car in front of the senior center. Finally it was time for game day at 1:00PM and the four of us played the game until 3:00PM. Then I took my leftover treats to Marilyn, who was unable to be there since she had a molar extracted yesterday at a dentist in Bartlesville. The dentist was Scott's age and he went to school with him in Bartlesville. I believe his first name was Craig but I have forgotten his last name. But when Marilyn mentioned it, I recalled meeting him a few years ago and he agreed that he went to school with Scott.

I had a text from Leslie. She has an 8:30AM hair appointment in South Coffeyville on Tuesday, March 7th and I will need to go with her. My hearing aid appointment is at noon in Tulsa and we will go from her hair appointment to my hearing aid appointment in Tulsa. They should be free for low income folks through a program called Neighbors in Need..

I called Marilyn and asked her once again the name of the dentist she had had extract her tooth and she told me again.

 It was Craig Cochran.

More Later..it's time for the CBS news.

I watched the news and then read until 7:00PM when I took my bath and then read some more until 9:00PM when I went on to bed and went right to sleep after taking an allergy pill again .

Tuesday and Cookies to Independence

I slept poorly for most of the night. It was off and on. I don't know why this time. Finally the last time I was up, I took some Melatonin and got  little better sleep. It's 6;20AM now and I am still a little groggy from the Melatonin. Maybe I will do better with some coffee. Soon I will make some and try to be less groggy feeling.

I have fixed my breakfast including the coffee. I am hoping it will wake me up some more. I need to get some Chai Latte when I am in Independence this morning at their Walmart store.  I am completely out. I should have bought some yesterday at Bartlesville's Walmart store. I just forgot it.

More Later...I will check on the cats and "the weather on the 8's". It's 6:27AM now.

Only Scruff came for her breakfast. There was no sign of Blondie.

But I finally did see "the weather on the 8's". Today will be 67 degrees and mostly cloudy, Tomorrow is to be 71 degrees and rain and wind. Thursday is to be 40 degrees and sunny, Friday is to be 45 degrees and mostly cloudy, Saturday is to be 48 degrees and PM showers, Sunday is to be 68 degrees and scattered thunderstorms and Monday is to be 63 degrees and AM showers and wind. That's the week. It looks like some much needed rain.

More Later...I should leave now. I have to go by the church and get Karan's cookies and buy Billie Jo's. before I go to the church in Independence with the cookies..

I did that and also left the large pair of pants on the table LeeAnn uses for her rummage in the Junior Classroom. Sally bought them and they were way too large for Nancy. I bought two pair the correct size with Nancy's debit card on Friday. I took the black ones to her on Friday and went over to the Bartlesville Walmart and found a tan/brown pair too. I took those to her yesterday with two matching blouses.

I took all the cookies up to the Christian church there and the pastor took them in the kitchen there. Then I came back home.  I will read awhile now.

More Later ....

I have been reading since morning. I finally got my mail. Michael got it here between 10:30AM and 11:30AM. It is 2:11PM now and they new guy just got it here. Terrible service! They are depending on folks they borrow from another post office somewhere nearby..

More Later..

I just finished Dan Rather's Kindle book, "What Unites Us". A very inspiring book. Makes you think! I recommend it!

It's 3:14PM now.

Now I am looking for something else to read on Kindle.  I may just go to the library tomorrow while I am in Coffeyville.  No sense paying for Kindle books when library books are free.

I started reading a short synopsis of one of the Kindle books just before I took my bath at 7:00PM. I put my pajamas and robe on  and I will read some more until 9:00PM when I usually go to bed.

Monday and a Trip to See Nancy

I didn't sleep as well as usual last night. I went to bed at 8:00PM...way too early. I sleep much better if I go to sleep at 9:00PM --or even later. For one thing, I was way too tired...why, I don't know. It wasn't much different then a usual Sunday....I made my coffeecake, as usual. After church, Phyllis and I went to Eggbert's for our usual small salad lunch. I think Karan must have gone with John and Leslie this time. I texted her and I told her where Phyllis and I were going...as our usual destination...and invited her to come too. I didn't hear back from her at all so I figured she went with John and Leslie. Everyone was visiting with our guest when we left the church. I didn't want to interrupt them then.

I did five letters after I got home. I didn't have enough bulletins for everyone so I explained that to the two that I didn't have a bulletin to send. Evidently everyone kept their bulletins and took them home. We did have quite a few for us., so the mail will not go out today and the bank will not be open either..

This is President's Day..a national holiday

I got my laundry started this morning..mostly underwear, my pajamas and the towels. It's in the dryer now.

I will go down to Bartlesville a little earlier this morning because I want to go to their Walmart store and get some tops for Nancy...something to go with the new pants I bought her last Friday. I will take those to her today. They were Pioneer Woman brand and they fit her well. But she only has one or two tops she can wear with those new pants..and that would be the black ones. She has nothing to wear with the new colored ones I bought for her last Friday.

Among the many tops I have in my closet, I found two that go perfectly with those new brown/tan pants I am taking to her today. I seldom wear them because I have so many. I am going to take those two tops to Nancy and see if she can wear them.

My dryer stopped but before that happened, I lost the internet connection to both my computers. I rebooted the laptop and it was able to get back online and the desktop did too..although with my usual problems with Cox, I don't know how long that will last ..so far..so good.

I will finish emptying the dryer now...if everything is dry.

I got everything folded and put away.

More Later...I will also check on the cats. It's after 6:00AM now.

Both cats were out there this morning. It's 39 degrees according to my phone. And it's 6:15AM now.  They were here earlier then usual. Scruff seems to have eaten and left. I think Blondie just left too. I will leave the food out there for awhile just in case they aren't finished after all.

And the weather channel just came on with the forecast. Today is to be 68 degrees and partly cloudy, Tuesday is to be 69 degrees and partly cloudy,  Wednesday is to be 70 degrees and AM thunderstorms, Thursday is to be 43 degrees and sunny, Friday is to be 43 degrees and PM showers, Saturday is to be 57 degrees and cloudy and Sunday is to be 62 degrees and showers. That's the weather forecast and it looks like it's going to be a more rainy week. That's good...we can use the rain here in Caney to help fill the Caney river that is nearly dry.

More even later....

I read until almost 10:30AM and I usually try to be down to Nancy's apartment about that time....so I was later getting there but she was dressed already and I showed her the two tops I took to her and the second pair of pants too that went with the tops. She was very pleased.

Then we went to the car and drove over to the cafe where Sally usually has her breakfast . She was there so we joined her. I had a pancake and scrambled egg and one strip of bacon and iced tea and Nancy had a pork chop and okra and her coffee. We had a good visit

Later I took Nancy back to her assisted living apartment and gave her  a hug goodbye until next Monday.

Now I will read some more. I just had my bath and put my pajamas and robe on.  I will read until at least 9:00PM

Sunday and Breakfast at Church

I slept well again last night and was up shortly before 5:00AM. I had been up once in the night and took my two meds at that time. Then I got right back to sleep. I made my bed and dressed and got myself ready for the day. In a little while I will make up my coffeecake and get it into the oven.

So More Later....

I got the coffeecake in the oven and the timer is on now. Now I am waiting for "the weather on the 8's" to come on. I got up just in time.

Today is to be 66 degrees and partly cloudy.Monday is to be 68 degrees and partly cloudy, Tuesday is to be 71 degrees and partly cloudy, Wednesday is to be 73 degrees and AM rain and wind, Thursday is to be 44 degrees and sunny, Friday is to be 47 degrees and cloudy and Saturday is to be 61 degrees and AM showers. That's the week! Some showers!

Now I will check on the cats again.

No...no cats yet!!

I got the coffeecake out of the oven and cooling now. Then I checked again on the cats. Only Blondie was there...at least so far.I took the food out to him and he is eating hungrily!

I mixed up the glaze for the coffeecake and will finish putting in on it after it cools a bit more. Blondie is really eating a lot. He must be very hungry this morning!

He appears to be leaving now. He must be full. Scruff never did come. I will leave the food out there a little bit to see if she will come now that Blondie is gone.

I got the glaze on the coffeecake and covered it with saran wrap. It's 7:26AM now and I won't leave for church until 9:00AM. Breakfast is at 10:00AM

So, More Later...

I left for church a littler later then I intended. I was reading and lost track of my time. Still I was not late. We had our breakfast and a nice worship service. We even had a visitor. And we had 12 in attendance...not bad for us. We have lost so many due to old age and an auto accident and one murder. We have gained a few too but not enough to make up for all we've lost due to  old age, the accident and the one murder.

I will write those who weren't there and send them a bulletin with the announcements and the prayer list.

There will be no local worship service on March 18th due to our Mission Center Conference at our campgrounds south of Joplin, Missouri, over that weekend and none on April 22nd either due to our World Conference in Independence, Missouri that entire week.

More Later...

I got five letters written and put in the post office outside box. I know they won't go out until Tuesday because Monday is President's Day..a national holiday.

I watched the PGA Genesis golf  tournament this afternoon.John Rahm won.

It's almost 6:00PM now and I will soon turn to Zoom to watch the worship service from the Mission Center.

I will record 60 Minutes. I never like to miss that.

After the worship service I will take my bath and put my pajamas and robe on and watch the recorded 60 Minutes program and then read until 9:00PM..my usual bedtime.
