Saturday and a Day of Rest

I slept well last night for a change and I feel so much more rested this morning. I was up at 5:00AM, made my bed, dressed, and got myself ready for the day as usual. As usual, I am having my breakfast here in the den. I am having the last of my oatmeal this morning. Later this morning I will check at Caney's market and see if they carry something similar to that I get at Walmart in the little variety packages.

The only thing I have planned for today is to go over the material for tomorrow's sermon and contact the congregation by text and encourage them to come to church tomorrow. I do that every Saturday. I always look forward to seeing each one there each Sunday and I tell them that. It never hurts to let folks know you care about them. All of us need to know how important we are to others. My church family is about the only extended family I have any more. I am the oldest in my family now. That's a strange feeling to know.

I have had my breakfast now and am just drinking my coffee. I will wash my dishes when I go into the living room to check on the weather forecast and the cats. They are soaking in the sink now.

More later...It's 6:45AM now and the cats are probably out there hungry.

The cats came for their breakfast and ate and after they finished I put their food in the garage and covered it.

It took me until 7:18AM to finally see "the  weather on the 8's". Today is to be 97 degrees with AM thunderstorms, Sunday 91 degrees and clouds PM, Monday 93 degrees and mostly sunny, Tuesday 94 degrees and mostly sunny, Wednesday 95 degrees and mostly sunny, Thursday 97 and sunny  and Friday 96 degrees and mostly sunny. The only rain is forecast for today but so far I haven't seen any.

I went out to pick up what few leaves there were in the back yard and noticed it was beginning to sprinkle. Maybe we will get some rain this morning.

It's 8:20AM now and it's raining nicely! I have been watching the CBS Saturday morning news and going through my phone and eliminating  extra photos. My phone tells me I have used too much memory. I figured it's too many photos.

May be an image of tree and grass

At last...some rain!!

It's 9:30AM now and the rain has stopped.I hope that's not all but I guess it is.

More later....

I went up to Independence to buy a printer cartridge for my printer. While I was there, I bought the oatmeal I needed too.

Then I worked on the bulletin for September 4th and sent it on to Leslie.  I hope she got it.

It's 2:08PM now I have been downloading and installing my updates of Glary utilities on both computers. Then I could no longer open any of my programs on the laptop so I rebooted it. Poor old thing....it is years old and still running Windows 7 which is no longer being updated. Any how, after it reloaded, I was able to open my programs again.

I had popcorn for my supper this evening and watched "Lucky Dog" that I had recorded this morning. Then I read until 7:30PM when I took my bath and put my pajamas and robe on. I plan to read some more and go to bed at 9:00PM or a little later. It depends on how the latest book goes....and how tired I get.

Friday and a Back to School Party

I slept better last night but still awoke at 4:00AM. Finally I just got up and made my bed and dressed and got myself ready for the day.  I fixed my breakfast and as usual, am eating it here in the den.

We have that Back to School party for the kids this afternoon at 6:00PM at the church. I will fix my coffeecake and take that for my treat. I will also take my Wahoo game in case they want to play that again. It's been a couple of years but I taught Leeann's boys how to play it at the last Back to School party we had and they may be interested in doing it again or maybe my two great granddaughters will. I taught them years ago. Anyhow I will have it there just in case. Two of Leeann's sons are in Coffeyville Community College this year. Leslie and John's granddaughter, Maia, is in middle school. I forget what year Cheyenne is in. I will have to ask her. It may be fourth or even fifth. They grow up so fast.

I will go over a little early to get some more oatmeal in the variety pack at Wal Mart.

I will go check out "the weather on the 8's"... and a little later..the cats.

Later this morning I will check with Joanne Stoner and see if she got moved to Independence alright.

I turned on the TV just in time to catch the weather forecast. Here it is...

Today is to be 95 degrees and mostly sunny, Saturday is to be 95 degrees too and partly cloudy, Sunday is forecast for 90 degrees and mostly cloudy, Monday is to be 93 and partly cloudy, Tuesday 93 degrees and mostly sunny, Wednesday is to be 93 degrees and mostly sunny, and Thursday is to  be 94 degrees and sunny....no rain in that forecast! Darn!

It's 6:04AM now and no cats yet.

It's 6:50AM now and when I opened the door this time there were  two hungry cats waiting for their breakfast so I took it out to them. Blondie was in so much of a hurry to eat that he choked on the food and coughed and coughed to get it down. I thought I might have to pat on his back to help him get it either up or down. But he finally did it by coughing.

More Even Later...the cats are finished and gone now. I will go bring the food in soon. I sure don't want the ants to find it.

Scruff is back eating more again. She must know if she doesn't get plenty, I will take it back to the garage and cover it. And when she finished I did that.

More Even Later...

I have been picking up leaves in my front yard. I have been doing that all summer in the back yard usually when it's cooler in the early morning or evening. It is good bending exercise for me. I need all the exercise I can get. I do so much sitting around reading.

I watered the flowerbeds again this morning too. We didn't get enough rain to do them much good.

It is 9:50AM now and I guess I will read.

I have been reading all morning and it's now 12:38PM. I need to find something to eat for lunch. It may be a peanut butter and jelly sandwich.

It was a peanut butter and jelly sandwich. They are always good when you have nothing else as an option. :) I can't handle any more frozen dinners for awhile.

More later....

It's 4:12PM now and I have been reading this afternoon. I just put the coffeecake in the oven fifteen minutes ago. It still has 25 yet Minutes to bake...maybe a little more. It's in a glass baking dish and that takes a little longer. I will test it with a toothpick. If I have a little powdered sugar I will fix an icing for it.

I went out in the back yard again and picked up the new leaves that had dropped from my south neighbor's tree this afternoon.

I got home from the Back to School party at 8:45PM...without incident! There were 11 kids there and they all seemed to have a good time! Leeanne did a good job with them too. Leslie and Karan were there too and everyone helped clean up.

Now I will take my bath and get ready to go to bed. Hopefully, I will sleep better tonight.

Thursday and Apartment Cleaning

I had another strange night of sleep. I went to bed at 9:00PM and slept soundly but woke up at 2:00AM again. I got up and went to the bathroom and took my meds and then went back to bed. But, once again, I couldn't shut my mind down. At 3:00AM, I got up and took three Melatonin tablets but that didn't help a bit. I could not get back to sleep. I counted my breaths...that usually works to get me back to sleep but not this time. Finally, at  4:00AM, I just got up. Just lying there for another hour was not going to do it. I got the bed made and dressed and got myself ready for the day. I got my breakfast made and am eating my oatmeal here in the den...as usual. It's 4:40AM now...much too early to check on the cats.

I intend to clean the apartment today..my usual Thursday job.

I checked my ingredients for the coffeecake I plan to bake for tomorrow's "Back to School" party tomorrow evening at church at 6:00PM. Leeann says there are eight kids coming. I have everything I need to make up that coffeecake. I will also take my Wahoo board and marbles.

My thumb is not sore this morning. I am happy about that. It's still swollen as usual. I could take some Aleve for that inflammation but that's not good for my stomach so I will just deal with it. If that's all I have to be concerned about, it's not a big deal. My knees, now, that's a different concern. They are only sore when I try to stand without having something to push myself up with..like the arms of my chair. Old age is certainly not for sissies. They are better since I have been bending over to pick up the leaves in my back yard. I evidently need that sort of exercise to keep them working. Speaking of that, when it gets light out I want to check that fence again. It would be a mess if it decided to fall over.

It was a combination of the cracking dry ground under it that the posts that are holding it are in and that strong wind Tuesday evening when it rained.

So, more later. It's 5:57AM now...

I went in the living room and turned on the TV and checked on the cats. First Scruff was the only one there but by the time I got back in the house, Blondie had joined her. They are both eating now.

I am waiting now for "the weather on the 8's". It is erratic. But just as I typed that, it came on.

Today will be 90 degrees and mostly sunny, Tomorrow is forecast to be 93 degrees and mostly sunny. Saturday is to be 91 degrees and AM thunderstorms, Sunday is to be 87 degrees and AM thunderstorms, Monday 90 degrees and partly cloudy, Tuesday mostly sunny, Wednesday 92 degrees and mostly cloudy.

That's the forecast now we'll see how much of that rain actually develops. And, wouldn't you know, it's forecast for the weekend.

The cats are gone now and I should get that cat food back in the garage before the ants find it. I got that done...

It's 6:30AM now and I should start on the mopping.

I got the mopping finished and will rest a minute before I start the vacuuming.

The next step is vacuuming the bedroom and the hall and the den.

So more even later..I want to go check out that fence since the sun is up now. It's 6:45AM.

The fence is definitely leaning but I don't believe it's any worse then it looked yesterday. Maybe it will hold up after all. It must not have rained last night but the dew is very heavy out there. That grass is wet!

I will have to re-mop the foyer. I tracked in grass.

More later...

I got everything vacuumed and the foyer re-mopped... except the living room and dining room and now I need to rest a bit. When the dining room is ready to be vacuumed I have to pull those heavy chairs into the living room and kitchen.

I will rest awhile before doing that. It's 7:24AM now.

The cats came back for another round of food. I finally took the food back out to them. They are going to have to eat their fill the first time. I am not going to constantly feed them more each time.

I finished the vacuuming and will dust tomorrow. I always use Old English furniture polish. It always leaves everything shining.

It's 8:20AM now.

It's 1:48PM now. I have read all morning. Stephen came over about an hour or so ago on his lunch hour and checked out the fence. He thought it was just one post that had termite damage on it and was weak. He will come back next week and stabilize it.

 More even  later...

I went out to Sonic this afternoon and bought a Reese's Sonic Blast for something in my stomach. I couldn't face another frozen meal. Ice cream sounded good though.

It's 5:12PM now and almost time for the CBS evening news. I may just have a peanut butter and jelly sandwich for something for supper. After the news, I will probably read until time for my bath.

I didn't read. My Kindle was charging again. But I did take my bath, put my pajamas on and my robe.

I made myself some bread and butter with that special bread Stephen brought me. It is really good! It's homemade and from scratch! I will use some of it for the communion on September 4th. A woman from their church makes it. He also brought me some very good cookies. They didn't last long!

I plan to go to bed at 9:00PM as usual and I hope I can sleep better tonight.

I hope the Kindle is charged enough to read this evening until 9:00PM.

Wednesday and Bunco

I had a terrible night's sleep last night. I woke up at 2:00AM and lay there wide awake until 3:00AM when I got up to take two Melatonin tablets. This time that did no good at all. I tried everything... even counting my breaths, but not even that worked and it usually does. I couldn't get my mind turned off so I could sleep. Finally at 4:15AM, I just got up and made the bed and dressed and got myself ready for the day. I will get my hair done this morning at 9:00AM and then go to the library and read my Kindle until time to go to Bunco at the senior center.

I see my phone has updated this morning automatically. That's the second time it's done that since I got it.

It's still dark outside so I don't know whether it rained any more last night or not. It's 5:20AM now.

I will check my bank account and then turn on the TV and wait for "the weather on the 8's"  to come on. But before that, I will fix my breakfast.

I have my breakfast here now and will finish it before I go check on the weather and the cats.

I saw in yesterday's Reporter that Caney is under water restrictions. We are not to water our yards and we are supposed to be cautious in using our water and not waste any.

I caught the weather forecast just in time to get a photo of it. Today is forecast for 81 degrees and cloudy,Tomorrow will be 89 degrees and mostly sunny, Friday is forecast for 94 degrees and mostly sunny, Saturday is to be 91 degrees and scattered thunderstorms, Sunday is forecast for  88 degrees and  isolated thunderstorms, Monday is to be 89 degrees and AM showers, and Tuesday is to be 89 degrees and AM showers.

That's the forecast for the next week...We'll see how much rain we actually receive.

So more even later...

I left about 8:45AM to go to Coffeyville for my hair appointment  and stopped at the bank first and withdrew $50.00 for the week. Then I got my hair done and after that I stopped at Sonic and bought a medium cherry limeade slush. Then I sat in front of the library and drank it and read my Kindle until nearly 1:00PM when it was time to go to the senior center and play Bunco until 3:30PM. We had a good time and good treats.

When I got home both cats were out there wanting to be fed again so I took them out some food. When they finished, I put the food in the garage and covered it again.

Then I began to read my Kindle again and I decided to check out the fence in the back. This morning before I left for my appointment and Bunco, I noticed the fence appeared to be leaning south. So I went over to the other side of the fence and checked and it sure was. Next time Stephen is here, I'd like him to take a look at it. I'd hate to lose that fence but we had a terrific wind with that rain last night and it may have caused it to lean. The ground around it was already badly cracked from all the dry weather. There is even a loose board just inside my side of the south part of the fence.

It's 4:19PM now and I will read awhile again.

So More Later...

I see it's 7:46PM and I will take my bath now and get my pajamas and robe on. Then I will read again until 9:00PM when I plan to go to bed.

Tuesday and No Particular Plan

I slept well again last night and was up at my usual 5:00AM, made my bed, dressed and got myself ready for the day.

I made my breakfast just a moment ago and am eating it here in the den. I will need to get some more oatmeal when I go to Coffeyville for Bunco tomorrow. I like to get the variety pack so I have a variety of flavors during the week. I will also have to get some more breakfast brew coffee. I used the last of what I had yesterday. When I pick up my treat for tomorrow's Bunco, I will get it at our market here. I also need some half and half for my coffee.

More later ...I want to check the forecast and see if we still have two days of rain in it. I will also check on the cats and see if they are waiting for their breakfast too.

Sure enough both cats were out there so I took their food out to them and when they finished eating I took the food back in the garage and covered it. I missed the forecast, I guess. Maybe it will be on in one minute at 6:48AM.

Sure enough...it was! Today is supposed to be 98 degrees and PM thundershowers, Wednesday 79 degrees and showers,Thursday 89 degrees and mostly sunny, Friday 83 degrees and mostly sunny, Saturday 93 degrees and partly cloudy, Sunday 86 degrees and scattered thunderstorms, and Monday 87 degrees and scattered thunderstorms. It will be interesting to see how much of the forecast rain actually happens.

Scruff keeps coming back for more food but I have taken it in to keep the ants out of it.  She has had plenty.

I will just stay in and read today. But I probably should go to the market early just in case we do get rain this afternoon.

I went to the market and got the things I needed except for the half and half. They had none of that. Luckily I have some Coffeemate so I can use that.

I stopped by the post office and bought more stamps too. I really go through the stamps with my letters each week to those who are not at church. But I think it's worth it for them to know they are missed.  I also send them a bulletin for the announcements and prayer list.

I watered the back flowerbed and hanging plant earlier this morning.I am trying to keep my flowers alive! I haven't watered the front ones yet. I should probably do that. We have no assurance it will rain later today. They have been wrong before...plenty of times.

I went out to water the flowers in the front and when I came back to the door to come back in, there was a huge spider right by the door. Generally I don't kill anything but that spider was enormous and I certainly did not want it in the house so I took off my shoe and killed it. It was as large as my thumb. I have no idea what kind it was. It wasn't a tarantula. It wasn't that large and it wasn't hairy. I had never seen any like it. I've seen lots of tarantulas because Big Hill in Coffeyville had a lot of them. Anyhow, I won't have to worry about it now. And I did get the flowers watered.

About 2:30PM I went out to Eggbert's and had lunch. I couldn't deal with another frozen dinner. Then I came home and read all afternoon and finished my latest book. Then I had to plug in the Kindle again to recharge it. It is 5:05PM now...and still no rain.

I still have a couple of magazines to read too.

More even later....

I just checked outside just now and it is thundering. We may get some rain this evening after all.

How about that! It is starting to rain out there.I just looked again.

It's almost time for my bath so I may as well take it.I won't need to water the flowers this evening after all.

Perhaps more later ....

So far we have thunder but only enough rain to wet the concrete a little.

It's raining harder now but not really hard at least not yet.

I have had my bath and have my pajamas and robe on and it's 6:54PM.

And I am charging the watch Ginger gave me for my birthday. I wear it at night because it lights up when I hold my arm up in the night and I can see the time. I wear the one Leslie gave me in the daytime. That way I can wear them both and neither goes to waste. I change them out after bath time. It's really raining now...lots of thunder and lightning and pouring down rain!

The police just issued a severe storm warning until 8:00PM this evening.

The storm seems to have passed here now. We got a lot of rain but as far as I can tell, no hail. Its 7:57PM now.

Monday and a Visit With Nancy

I slept poorly part of the night..waking up at 1:00AM but then I got up and took two Melatonin tablets and went back to sleep for the rest of the night and just got up about 5:45AM. I made my bed and got myself ready for the day. I put a load of laundry in the washer...mostly underwear and towels. I will fix my breakfast next and check on the cats and "the weather on the 8's".  It's 6:22AM now.

More Later....

I got in the living room just in time to catch the cats waiting for their breakfast. I just got their food out to them and back in the house and the weather came on.

Today will be 103 degrees and mostly sunny. Tuesday is forecast to be 103 degrees and thunderstorms,Wednesday 82 degrees and AM showers,Thursday 91 degrees and sunny, Friday 93 and mostly sunny, Saturday 98 degrees and AM showers, and Sunday 91 degrees and scattered thunderstorms. Sounds like some rain this next week but I remain skeptical. I have seen too much rain in the forecast just disappear.

I need to get out there and trim while it's fairly cool.

So, more later...

I got the yard trimmed and the mess cleaned up. I also cleaned up the mower the best I could. It gets filthy when anyone mows.

Stephen drove in my drive as I was cleaning up my mess and brought me some flax oatmeal cookies (made with freshly milled flour). A woman in their congregation at their church bakes regularly and sells her wonderful homemade cookies and breads. This bread is flax meal sandwich bread made with freshly milled flour too. I haven't tried it yet but I soon will. I had one of her cookies and they are really good. I am going to have to discipline myself or I will gain back the weight I have lost. :)

Stephen and Dee Anna are so thoughtful!

More even later....

I got Nancy and we stopped at the Copan Restaurant and had lunch. Afterward, since we were only 7 miles from Caney, we went to Caney to look at Nancy's house and later at the Caney Museum. We had a good tour of the museum. Dale and Gina have done a real good job of organizing it. He does the work and she organizes it. They gave us each a booklet about area museums and another one I haven't had time to check out yet.

David texted me about Bunco on Wednesday. I texted him back and said I would be there.

More later... .

I read this afternoon again.

It's 8:25PM and I have just had my bath and put my pajamas on and my robe. I haven't watered my flowerbeds this evening so I had better go do that.Tuesday is supposed to be 103 degrees too and there is supposed to be AM rain. I will believe that when I see it. We have been disappointed too many times this month.

I will go out in my robe and water...just in case.

I plan to read until my 9:00PM bedtime.

Sunday and Church

I slept well last night and was only up once in the night and then got right back to sleep. I made my bed and got myself ready for church. I have made my breakfast and am here in the den eating it.

I tore a contact getting them in this morning.I hadn't changed them in several months so I still had a couple. They seem a lot clearer. I must have needed to use new ones....at least that one.I have one new one left. I never throw the old ones away as long as they are in good shape. I just put them in a case and put fresh disinfecting liquid in with them. In case of an emergency, I will have some to use. They are very expensive from Dr. Dobbins. Roger was much less expensive. Unfortunately he retired and moved to Phoenix. He was the one that got my lazy eye to work. When I was in my 40's  he put a real strong contact in it and within a week, it was working with 20/30 vision. I had worn a patch over my good eye for a year when I was 5 years old but that never got it to work then. It took me a while to get used to having depth perception.

Karan speaks at church today. She is quite good. I wrote mine several weeks ago when Leslie scheduled us and have not spent a lot of time on it since. I speak next week and I will need to work on it again this week.  There are four of us that do the sermons at church. We are all elders and we took courses by mail from our seminary in Lamona, Iowa, years ago. So we are all certified by our church. I was the only one that got the advanced certification at that time. I enjoyed the courses and had the time and interest to do it.

Karan had a good sermon today. It usually is!

More later...I have better check on the cats. Scruff came last night for her supper. I didn't see Blondie then. He must have been in the house of his owners. He is not feral.

I caught "the weather on the 8's" too. As usual, it has changed. Today will be 104 degrees and sunny, Monday is also forecast for 104 degrees and mostly sunny, Tuesday's forecast is for 102 degrees and AM thunderstorms, Wednesday's is for 80 degrees and AM showers and Thursday's is for 89 degrees and mostly sunny, Friday is for 92 degrees and mostly sunny, and Saturday's is for 92 degrees and partly cloudy.

A lot of change.

I am going on to church now. It's 9:30AM  and I want to be sure there are no bugs that climbed under the door. If there are, I will sweep them up.

There were some bugs in the  hall but nowhere near as many as usual. Thursday's cleaning must have helped a lot.

More later after lunch.....

Phyllis and I went to Just Us, as usual, for lunch after church.

We had just a few at church today. I will send those who were not there a letter and a copy of the bulletin with the announcements and the prayer list.

More later after I finish the letters.

I got the letters with the bulletins out on the mailbox for the mailman to pick up tomorrow.  I hope the contacts help.

It's almost 6:00PM  and I am waiting for the Mission Center's Zoom to come on for the evening's worship service.

It just started..

The Mission Center service was very good. Ted's son gave a very good  sermon.

It's almost 7:00PM and I will take my bath and put my pajamas on and my robe and then read some more on my latest book before going to bed at 9:00PM.

Krystal came about 7:30PM  and mowed the yard. It was a lot of leaves too from the west side and the front. It's 8:50PM now and she just left. I swept up the leaves just off the curb into piles and she swept them up into the dust pan too and put them in the black yard bag. Then she put that bag in the trash container. I will set it out on Tuesday...maybe even Monday afternoon since I'm never quite sure how early on Tuesday the trash men come by. It's 9:00PM now and I am going to bed. The Kindle is back on charging again now so I couldn't read.
