Sunny Saturday

Today is suopposed to be sunny and I am counting on it. I would like to do some work in the yard after I finish the house.

Slinky started barking this morning at 5:00 AM. I was sleeping soundly at the time. I took my time (I didn't want to reinforce bad behavior) getting in there to get his breakfast. Missy got up when Slinky started barking so I got up to let her out and went back to bed for awhile.

I met Bob A and my daughter, Leslie, for breakfast this morning at 7:30 at Eggberts. Afterward I washed my car and then came home and began cleaning up my yard. It was 9:00. . I still have a little bit to finish in the back before I can begin the front. I never did the get the leaves raked last fall and the grass is looking very bad where all those leaves lay on it all winter. I hope it will come back. After I get the yard finished I am going to put Weed and Feed on it to try to get rid of some of the weeds. I came in awhile ago because I was exhausted. I am feeling better now and wil get back out there and hope to get it finished.

I got the back yard finished at 1:30 and it needs mowing but it's too soggy to mow. At least the leaves are bagged up. I must have had the spreader calibrated wrong because it used the entire bag of Weed and Feed to do just the perimeter. I hope the animals don't get into it and get poisoned. I am too exhausted to do anything more today. The front yard will have to wait until another day.

Tonight at 6:00 PM I will go back to Independence for Jeromy's birthday dinner at the Booth.

More later...

Unexpected Friday Weather

Well, it's raining again. This was not forecast. We were forecast to have fog. I let Slinky in the kitchen again this morning. He slept outside in 40 some degree weather. Missy stayed in last night and slept with me.

I was talking to Leslie on the phone last night about Jeromy's birthday dinner tomorrow evening and when we were finishing up, the house phone rang. I said "goodbye" to her and answered it. It was the hospital. I am the chaplain this week and they had a patient in ICU who was dying and his wife needed a chaplain. So I grabbed a badge and went to the hospital. This elderly gentleman who was 94 years old was working on a birdhouse in his shop and had a stroke. He was comatose and she was sitting by his bedside waiting for his death. She was 96. They would have been married 69 years next Tuesday. The family friends were there too and after I greeted them and introduced myself I asked them if they would like to have prayer. They did. So I prayed for him and them. Then I stayed and about 9:30, he died. She was pretty upset, of course. I tried to comfort her the best I could and intended to wait until her son arrived. He lives in Little Rock Arkansas and had not arrived yet. I left at 10:30 but Howard and Judy had come by then and Howard is a retired Methodist minister who attends her church and her best friend's daughter was there so I left them in good hands. That was sad.

Anyhow, I got to bed about 11:00 and slept well. Missy got me up at 4:20 to let her out. Then Slinky began barking to get in. I figured he was chilled so about 4:45 I let him in the kitchen again. I fed him and fixed our oatmeal. He loves oatmeal!

Tomorrow morning I will meet Bob A. for breakfast. Leslie will join us if she gets around early enough. She has a hair appointment here in Coffeyville at 9:00. Then tomorrow evening at 6:00 we will meet at the Italian restaurant in the Booth Hotel in Independence for a dinner to celebrate Jeromy's 32nd birthday. I need to get his birthday gift wrapped. I will look at my paper collection tonight and try to get that done.

I must be a sick person. I am watching "When Harry Met Sally" for the second time in a month. I think it's very entertaining.

Busy Thursday

Today at work was really busy. I worked on cleaning up the files all morning and they are really in a mess. I did the same thing yesterday.

After work, I quickly drove to Independence where I got my hair done and afterward picked up Juanita for lunch. We went to Big Cheese. They have the best pizzas. We had not had lunch (or even breakfast) for several months. First it was the 17 inch snow and then the 4 inch snow and finally her fall that prevented us from meeting for lunch. Her right eye is still bruised on the outside. She looks thinner so maybe she has lost dome weight.

Her son in Chicago has lost his job. He made $200,000 a year so he will have a hard time finding another that pays that well. Luckily he had saved some money. He has two 18 year old twin girls and two 21 year old twin girls. The older ones are in college. the younger ones graduate from high school this year.

I came back home after I took Juanita home. I had been gone since 7:30 this morning. It has rained all day. It is chilly but I am leaving Slinky out as long as I can. He may have to spend tonight in the kitchen again if it doesn't warm up. Thank goodness tomorrow is Friday. I want to clean house on Saturday. I also want to bake a dessert for the Living the Questions group Sunday evening. I need to get some ice cream to go over it too. I want to make my apple brown betty.

I haven't heard from my daughter what the plan is..if anything... for my grandson's birthday. It is day after tomorrow. He will be 32.

Busy Wednesday

This will be a busy day. Not only will I work from 8:00 until 11:00 but then I have the Lenten Luncheon at 11:30. I will pick up Bob A since he volunteered to go with me. I also will meet Gay there. I don't remember whether he has met her or not. Myra also wanted to have lunch today. I should e-mail her and invite her too. She had volunteered to come to Coffeyville to meet me for lunch. (She got my e-mail too late to make it)

Then I must go to the market. I am out of several essential items. And before work this morning I will need to go to the bank.

Yesterday, on the spur of the moment, I asked Bob A. if he would like to go to Bartlesville with me to pick out a mat for the front door of the church. The one we have is in bad shape after a tough winter. We put it at the back door after we bought the new mat. Before we went to Lowe's we stopped at Garfield's and got their cranberry walnut side salad and some raspberry tea. Neither of us had eaten lunch.

After our trip to Lowe's we came on back home. Neither of us needed anything from the mall.

Needless to say, I did not get out to see Phyllis or Gerry. I will wait now until Friday. I have a hair appointment tomorrow at noon and after that I will pick up Juanita for lunch. She called yesterday evening. Keith called yesterday evening too.

I went to bed at 8:30 last night. I simply could not keep my eyes open any longer.

I slept until 4:15 when Missy woke me up to get out. Slinky slept until 5:30.

I picked up Bob A at 11:20 and we met Gay at the Lenten Luncheon. We all enjoyed our visit. They had a good crowd and the services were good too. Bob A. saw a lot of people he knew there too.

Gay has gone to visit one of her "elderly" friends here in Coffeyville. She may drop back by later this afternoon so I will wait to go to the market until later after she leaves town.

Chilly Tuesday

It's chilly today. In fact, it's been chilly for a week. I thought March was going to be nice but it's going out like a lion.

Yesterday was a frustrating day at work. I did a bunch of filing and some making copies of forms and that wasn't bad. Then I began to try to match invoices to check numbers and that was a hassle. I spent 40 minutes trying to find one invoice and never did. I stayed over twenty minutes just to get that one matched but was never able to find the invoice. So I'll go back to the search again today. This is the kind of work I do not like. We were supposed to have shredded old documents that are too old to keep anymore. Heather told me to wear my jeans for this work..so I did. When I got in, she had learned that she was going to have to drive one of the transportation buses so we were not going to be able to do that.

At least I got the roof business done. Now it will be interesting to see what the insurance company will do. They say the roof is not ventilated enough and that makes the wood decking spongy. They won't pay for the decking because of that. I think I would be wise to try to sell the house. The taxes and insurance are eating me up. But I dread packing again and the hassle of selling the house and paying a Realtor to take care of the paperwork.

Luckily, the vinyl roof on the shed did not leak. But I need to begin painting on the house. The vinyl patio cover leaks and the wood frame is pealing so I need to start there. I can't do anything about the leaking patio cover but I can paint the frame and I need to do that as soon as it gets warm enough. I will paint one side of the house each year if I stay here. That way every four years, the house would get painted.

I also need to wash windows. Oh there's a lot of work to be done alright. Unfortunately, I am freshest in the morning and I will be working mornings. Oh well!

Back to Work

Today is Monday and I will go back to work this morning from 8:00 until 11:00. That's just enough hours to make it worth my while to work at this job training. It will bring me in another $400. a month.

Today the appraiser from 21st Century is supposed to call and make an appointment to come by to look at my roof. I will call Chuck back when I know when he's coming. Chuck wants to be sure he is aware of the lack of quality of the plywood under the roof. It must be very thin the way the roof moves when one walks on it.

The rest of the day is supposed to be chilly and damp.

More later....

Well, the adjuster called. He said if the shingle wasn't penetrated, I wouldn't need a roof and he will have an independent adjuster call in the next two days and come out and actually look at the roof.

Then the independent adjuster came last night and so did the roofer to whom I had talked. The independent adjuster said I needed a new roof. He will send in his report and the company will send me a letter to tell me what they will do. It will undoubtedly be a few weeks before the roof is actually on. Then I expect my home insurance to go up.

Chilly Sunday

Today is pretty chilly. It supposedly got down to 28 degrees last night. The animals spent the night in the house and they did pretty well. Slinky woke me a little after midnight wanting to go outside to do his duty. I let him out and then back in. I got back to sleep. About 4:00, Missy wanted out. She really didn't after all but if she wakes me at 4:00, she's going outside. She is back in now. At 5:00 Slinky needed to get back out. I just got up. Soon I will go in and get ready for church. He will either have to be happy about that or go back outside. Those are his choices.

It has become chilly again..drat it! I am ready for spring weather.

After church today, some of us will eat out together...at least we always do. Then this afternoon I will do my letters for those who did not attend. After that, I will get my clothes ready for work tomorrow. I am supposed to wear jeans so we can shred old records that have been stored since the year one. So getting my clothes ready should not be much of a challenge.

I watched "The Way we Were" on Turner Classic Movies. That took me back a ways. But movies in those days had a certain "niceness" that are lacking in most of today's movies. Then I went to bed at 9:30.
