A Hot Saturday

It's not hot yet but it's only 7:00 too. It's 77 degrees right now but is supposed to get up to 101. I'm not looking forward to that. However, Bobby and Karan and Bob and I are going to Joplin this morning to  eat at Olive Garden at noon. They have been working a couple of weeks getting two of their mobile homes ready for rent. It has been a huge job. One of the previous renters nearly wrecked the place and they are having to put a lot of money and time into getting it ready to be rented.  They say "never again to HUD". This will be a good break for them.....and us. I haven't really been out of town since I started this job except to go to Independence to take the cakes up and to get my hair done.

Well yesterday after exercises I did run over to Caney to the bank I have my car loan  with. I wanted to find out how long my five year loan would be if I paid an extra $200 a month. Turns out it would be paid off in 22 months. So I came home and scheduled a second payment this month. I will do that each month until it's paid off.  Then I came back home and warmed up our hamburger pie for lunch.

I watched some TV last night but by 9:00 I was ready to go to bed. I woke up two or three times in the night but was always able to get back to sleep. The second time I woke up my right leg was aching and my back was hurting so I got up and took a couple of Aleve. Then I was able to get back to sleep. Getting old is not for sissies.

Today I must run the sweeper and dust before we leave for Joplin. I got laundry done yesterday and cleaned the bathroom and kitchen floors. But that's all I got done.  This morning I cut up the rest of the watermelon John and Leslie gave me and put it in Tupperware. We will use it for a snack until it's gone.

Missy tickles me. When she thinks I'm distracted by this blog, she tries to sneak out to the front of the apartment. I have made her go back several times but finally I just brought my chair out here on the drive and am watching her from here.  I don't want her to get hurt again like she did last year when that stray cat attacked her. She is getting more and more adventuresome nowadays though.

More later....

I got the apartment all cleaned up for another week. The bed is clean and the towels have all bedding washed and dried. I always feel good when I can get all that done early in the day.

Juanita just called and I will get up to Independence to see her on Sunday after diiner. She has her bank statement and I will reconcile her account then.  Juanita is almost completely blind and really has no one to help her with her bank statement.  My hair appointment is at 7:30 on Tuesday morning so I can't work it out then. I will just make a trip up there in the afternoon on Sunday.

We went  to Joplin at 10:30 and had our lunch at Olive Garden. We had a good time and we went out to the mall and looked around at TJ Maxx. Bob and I both bought some flavored coffee.  Then we stopped at Christopher and banks and Karan bought some sale clothing.  She has lost 35 pounds and can't wear any of her clothes any more.

We got home at 3:30 and took them home and then I came home and looked at my e-mail. Leslie wants to go to the Peace Colloquy. If I go, we may stay with Sherry, Karan's daughter. She has a nice place in Kansas City.

A Friday Free

This is one of my days off. One of the good things about this job is that it's only four days and that gives me a long weekend.

Today I am doing laundry. I have stripped my bed and have the laundry in the dryer now. I must also clean the apartment.  I want to clean the bathroom and kitchen and then run the sweeper and dust. It will be a busy morning especially since I am planning to go to exercise class too at 9:00.

We will eat our leftover hamburger pie. We may have it for lunch instead of supper it depends on how the morning goes. I still have a little apple cake left too.

I would like to finish the mowing today too. My east side needs to be mowed and we need to finish the back.  Bob will have to get some more gas first.

Missy is waiting to go out but it's only 6:30 in the morning and pitch black out there. I will take her out after it gets light. We don't need any surprises.

I got my first paycheck yesterday too. I will double my car payments to get this car paid off sooner and save some interest.

More later...

I went to Caney after I got my laundry finished and talked to the loan official about my car loan. If I pay an extra $200 a month the car will pay off in another 22 months and I will save a pile of interest at 4.99%. Also that will be about the same time my job plays out. I have two years left of it.

Then I came back home and warmed up the hamburger pie.  I took what was left of it over to Bobby. We visited for awhile and I came back home to go to Braums and buy milk and yogurt for next week's lunches.

Now I am waiting for the mail.

Thursday Long Day

Today I worked 6 1/2 hours again. Christina was there for two and a half hours. ..from 10:00 until 12:30.  The rest of the day I was there by myself. It was fine though. It was a steady day.

After I got off work, Bob and I went over to Cherryvale to eat at Just Us. It's a home style buffet.  The food is good and the rhubarb pie is excellent.

He is here now watching TV. He had starting mowing while I was at work. The center yard looks great. We do such a better job then the kids that mow for us every other week.

My dear friend, Doug, has been diagnosed with a malignant brain tumor.  He will have it removed and then chemotherapy.  I am just sick about this. I have known him since he was in high school. He's 61 now. I pray somehow his body can combat this. He has a beautiful wife and two grown children.

I will write more later after I've had my bath.

I read my book until bedtime. I had lost so much sleep last night that I was really tired.

Another Short Workday Wednesday

I only work until 1:00 this afternoon again. I don't mind the three and a quarter hour days. They fly by. I take my Kindle and read when there's no one in the museum.

First though, I will go to exercise class. I got busy Monday and forgot my time and missed exercise class.

I have a hair appointment in Independence this afternoon at 2:30...thank goodness! I need a haircut badly that's for sure.

We will have hamburger pie again this evening. It's fast and easy. I include green beans in it and with a salad, it's a full meal.  And I have that apple cake for dessert.

Missy tickles me. If she finds a spider or a bug of any kind, she makes a snack of it. I had a moth in here awhile ago and she used it for a treat.  I get a lot of laughs out of this cat. I think she keeps me healthy.

More later....

I attended the exercise classes today. Then I left a little early to get to work.  I had a slow morning. There were two couples and a single man before noon.  I x'd out when Connie finally got there.  She will z out when she leaves at 4:00. That will give us the day's totals.

I got off work late today. Connie didn't get there until 1:30. By the time I got my time sheet faxed in and got the museum key returned to the chamber office, it was nearly 2:00. I called Bob to check to see if I had put the hamburger back in the frig since I didn't have time to go back home.  I had my 2:30 haircut and hairdo appointment in Independence so I needed to take highway 169 on up there because they are resurfacing 10th street road... the closer route.  But I couldn't afford to get held up with a lead car.  I got there in time by taking 169.

I got back home at 4:00 and began supper. The hamburger pie was good and we had that with green beans in it, cottage cheese and applesauce and the apple cake for dessert.  Bob stayed this evening for Nature on PBS but then he got sleepy and went on home. I took my bath and put my PJs on and worked on this blog. I will go to bed in 30 minutes or so. ...but not before 9:00.

Another Short Workday Tuesday

This will be one of my 3 1/2 hour work days. I am always happy to have them. They go much faster.  I was busy yesterday but it was generally paced  well except there at the last when two groups came in at 3:15. Luckily they left around 3:45.

Last night I made and iced my cake for my trip to Independence this morning. Phyllis is out of town so I asked Bill to make a cqake to make up for the loss of hers. He was happy to do that. Good old Bill!

This morning I left about 8:00 to take the cakes up. They are working on the tenth street road so I didn't know what I might encounter.  I managed to work around their construction and got back home around 8:30. Bob had been to the market for me and left my groceries on the cabinet top along with my change so I went over to thank him. We will have supper again tonight. I plan on having tuna croquettes, fried potatoes, veggies and his coleslaw.   Maybe I can come up with a dessert of some kind. I'd like to make that apple cake Wendy gave us last week. That was really good. But apple crisp would also be good. We will see.

Now it's almost time to go to work so I'd better finish this later. I need to get my lunch out of the frig.

More later...

I had a rather quiet day at work. There were only two couples in while I was on duty this morning.  I read my Kindle. After work I went to Wal Mart to get the rest of my groceries on the list. Now I am relaxing while the Kindle recharges.

I also went by to get some wine at Gilliam's. We were out.

More still later...

I took some of our supper to Bobby. The tuna coquettes were a new recipe and I don't believe Bob liked it  although he ate it. I had one left and that's the one I took to Bobby. Karan is still on her Nutrasystem diet.

My older son called while I was reading. It was good to hear from him. I wondered if he and Esther had been involved in the flooding in Phoenix. They had not..thank goodness.  I read until bedtime after Bob left.  I went to bed about 9:00.

Another Work Monday

Today will be another of my "long" days.  I hope to have something more to read before I leave for work. Maybe I can find something cheap on Amazon.

I got up shortly after 5:00 this morning and had a small bowl of cereal. I am drinking some leftover coffee that I warmed up. I got Missy's treats for her first thing as I usually do. (she is so spoiled) She saw a small buy on the kitchen floor and made short work of it. Any bug never makes it in the house here. It's a great source of protein for her. :)

We have exercise class again this morning. I have been attending even though I have to leave about five minutes early to get over to the museum.

I have to go in about 9:45 for work. First I always have to stop by the chamber office and pick up a key. Then after I open the door, it's a one minute race to get to the security system before the alarm goes off and disarm it.  Next I open the safe and put the money in the cash register. After that, I open the gun cases and get the guns out of the safe and put them in the cases and re-lock them.

I need to remember to take some yogurt for my lunch and put it in the frig there.  I left my water bottle there Thursday. I will need to refill it.

More later..

It was a relatively quiet day at work. I did have a dozen and a half people in but they were not clustered around any particular time.  John came in to work on the books and Wendy came in periodically to make up a box to send to a patron in Alaska who called for her today while she was gone. I worked alone all day. Seven people came in right after 3:00 and I was afraid I was going to get stuck in the museum. But they all left slightly before 4:00, when we close. I got away about 4:20.

I got home in time to throw together dinner. I wasn't nearly as tired as I have been so I decided to go ahead and fix the chicken which I had thawed over the weekend.  I had some cauliflower and broccoli and a few potatoes and then I fixed some gravy.

Bob stayed while I put my cake in the oven and went home about 7:15. Bobby is bringing Karan's cake over after a while so I won't take my bath yet.   There's nothing on TV tonight so I will read until time to go take my bath. .

Quiet Sunday

It's a quiet Sunday today. I did not sleep well last night and finally got up at 3:00 and took two Aleve. They didn't help much with the sleep though so I finally just got up about 4:30.  My right leg and left forearm ached too badly to sleep.

I will go to church today and then afterward we will eat out somewhere.  I will come home and do my weekly newsletters. We have no Living the Questions group tonight so I will just stay home and watch 60 Minutes.  Maybe I can get to bed earlier and get some sleep or, better yet, get a nap this afternoon.

I will work my 6 1/2 hours tomorrow. We will have chicken tenders , mashed potatoes and gravy, salad and veggies and fruit for dessert. Then I will need to bake a cake Monday evening and take the cakes from here to Independence on Tuesday for the  Independence Christian Church's Tuesday evening dinner.

Missy wants to go out on the carport this morning but I have convinced her we are not going out until it's daylight. It's only 5:25 now.  She has been jumping on the door to get to go out.

More later....

We went out on the carport for awhile.  Then it became time to leave for church. After church five of us ate at El Pueblo and then I came home to do my congregational letters. Bob came over at 6:00 and we watched a rerun of 60 Minutes and had that last glass of wine.  After that, he went home and I finished my book. Debbie Reynolds was so stupid when it came to men and marriage. She let them take her for everything she had.  At least she admitted it in this memoir.

Now I'm out of anything to read...again. Maybe I can find  a free book on the Amazon site...or at least a greatly reduced price one. I now have 100 books on my Kindle.

I went to bed about 9:00 and slept well.
