Warm Saturday

It's warm today..like 59 degrees. I'm having warmed up coffee this morning because Bob and I will go to our usual Saturday morning breakfast. I drink two cups of coffee there.

We ended up yesterday going to the Dearing Cafe and having cornbread and beans so I didn't cook. I will probably cook today instead.

I looked all over town for a Christmas wreath. There simply isn't any shopping here in Coffeyville. I did find some garland which I will hang across the top of my three piece wall unit. I also bought a small nativity set. I haven't made up my mind yet where I will use it...probably on my server in the dining room.

I also found a used Scrabble set and bought it for $3.00. Maybe I can teach Bob to play Scrabble. It is a good mind twister. That's good for us old people.

Tuesday when we go to Independence for our haircut appointments, we will look in their gift shops for wreaths for our doors. We need a relatively flat one..not one of those full ones. It will have to fit between the storm door and the door. We both bought a wreath holder for them.

I have decided not to buy a small Christmas tree. I have the ceramic one Phyllis made for me and I will put it on the console in the living room. Then I will decorate in other ways. ...with the garland and candle rings. I won't decorate until after I return from Hawaii though. When I do it, I will post some photos here.

Friday Again

Another Friday. I am fixing some biscuits since that is what I like to have for breakfast. I put the others in zip lock bags and put them in the frig and then warm them up and brown them in the skillet until they are gone. I eat one of them each morning with butter and jelly.

I went through boxes yesterday looking for my yahoo board. I never did find it although I did find an old coverlet I had put away years ago. I put it on my bed for a change. I slept really well again last night. It's been a good week for sleeping.

Bob came over last night and we watched the show "Big Bang Theory". When he went home I stayed up awhile but then went on to bed about 8:00. That's usually the death knell for sleeping through the night but I must have been very tired because I slept through the night anyhow.

Today I will go to Independence to get my hair done. I am going to have to give up my Friday appointment. First of all, I am spending way too much money on my hair and secondly, I see way too many dead dear on the road up there at that time of day. My appointment on Fridays in at 7:00am. I will just have to shampoo it myself for the weekend.

After exercise class this morning at 9:00, I will probably clean house. I like to do that once a week. With a cat in the house it probably needs it at least that much. They shed.

I'm not sure what I'm having for lunch today. I am thinking those tuna cakes we had last week. Bob really liked them and I always keep tuna on hand. We would have boiled potatoes with them and a veggie. Bob would bring a salad. I will make some cookies again and have pudding for dessert. The problem with cookies is that I can't stay out of them.

Another Busy Thursday

I got up about 5:30 this morning after sleeping well again. I made chili and then baked a cake for the family funeral dinner at the senior center this evening. The chili is for our lunch/dinner. The cake is for the funeral dinner.

Bob went to his Lion's Club meeting this morning at 6:30 and he will be delivering meals on wheels for Barbara this morning too. He should be back by lunchtime. I may attend game time at the senior center this afternoon if it's still on.

I talked to Ashley, my granddaughter, last evening and she called back this morning to talk some more. She is only taking two classes at collage this semester since she is having to work more hours. At this speed, she will take several years to get through her degree. I was glad she called me however.

I watched the PBS special American Experience last night on the Kennedy assassination. A lot of it was new material.

More later...

Out of Town Wednesday

Today Bob and I will go to Joplin just for something different to do. He wants to eat lunch at Cracker Barrel so for a change, that's what we're going to do. I got my social security today and paid my car payment. My electric bill will go out automatically tomorrow. My internet and insurance will be next. The insurance comes out automatically but I will pay the internet myself.

I am going to start my Christmas shopping this week. I have Leslie's gift already. I will have to be very careful not to really spend too much since my car insurance comes due in January and I want to attend Restoration Studies Symposium in February. I forget when my renter's insurance comes due. I believe it's March. They will notify me, I'm sure. Without a job, I am on a very tight budget. I am torn about going back to work. I need the money but enjoy being free to do the things that I like to do without having to ask off or just skip them.

Also, my trip to Hawaii is the last week of the month and I need to take some spending money for that too. Thank goodness my kids bought the ticket or I would not be able to go. I am really looking forward to seeing Scott.

More later....

On our way to Joplin (the road was NOT open) I received a phone call from the son of one of our members. The member, Isabell, was in the hospital in Parsons after suffering a massive heart attack. He wanted me to come by and administer to her with oil. On our way back from Joplin, we turned north and went to parsons and I did just that. Isabell looked pretty good. She was in ICU and her family was there. I hope she can recover. She has had a very rough road to hoe the past few years.

Cold Tuesday

It got cold last night. I haven't checked the temperature yet but I stepped outside to my car and it is cold. I striped my bed this morning and am doing some laundry now. Everything is in the dryer. I am watching the weather channel waiting for the weather on the 8's to come on. I see it's 26 degrees right now. The low tonight will be 21 degrees.

I will go to Independence this morning to get my hair done and have lunch with Leslie if she can get away. She has been swamped at work lately. She missed lunch last week. I came back home and cooked instead. If that happens today I will come home and make chili. That sounds good in such cold weather.

Tomorrow Bob and I plan to go to Joplin. The road is open again. He wants to eat at Cracker Barrel this time. They always serve way too much but I agreed.

He wants to go to Bed Bath and Beyond afterward. I want to run by Macy's and Christopher and Banks. I shouldn't buy anything. I will need to make my car payment tomorrow when I get my social security.

I slept very well last night. The house was cool and that always helps.

More later...

I did meet my daughter for lunch. We had a nice visit. Then I went to the market and bought the makings for chili for Thursday.

Veterans Day Monday

It was a very busy Sunday yesterday. We had a really good time over at Marilyn's. There were ten of us. We have lost four. Richard has found other fun things to do with his Sunday evenings, Barbara moved away, Howard and Judy moved away too. But the rest of us are really enjoying our time together. Last night, after we ate, we heard a DVD lecture on substitutionary atonement by Marcus Borg and spent the rest of the evening discussing it. Most of us agreed we could not love a God who would even consider sacrificing his own son to atone for the sins of the world. We consider such a doctrine the work of the very early Christian church leaders. Most people don't do their own thinking though. They simply take the words of ancient men seriously and do not question the reality of the time and culture out of which those words came.

I got home about 9:00 and stayed up until 10:00. I slept really well. Joyce had fixed the bar b q and it was really good. Marilyn had a variety of drinks and all were very good. Karan brought brownies and someone else brought some ice cream so we really feasted.

I don't know what I will do today. I should have changed my bed but I'll do that one day this week. Wednesday we decided to go to Joplin since the road is open now. Bob wants to go to Bed Bath and Beyond. He wanted to look for a wall mounted shaving mirror. I told him he should wait to buy anything until after Christmas.

I had a biscuit and a banana for breakfast with some warmed over coffee. In a little bit I will fix myself some Chi.

We will have hamburger pie for lunch/dinner. Bob will bring a salad to go with it and we will eat the last of the cupcakes for dessert.

More later....

The hamburger pie was delicious. Bob brought a nice salad. We had the last two cupcakes for dessert. I tried to take a nap this afternoon but just couldn't go to sleep. American Experience is on PBS tonight at 8:00 and I want to watch it.

I went to the post office this afternoon and dropped a sympathy card in the mail for Deloris. She suddenly lost her daughter last week. That has got to be the worst thing ever....to lose a child.

Sunday and Church

Today I will go to church. Afterward, as usual, a group of us will go eat out somewhere. After that, I will do my letters and then go to Marilyn's for the Living the Questions group. Same old, same old.

Yesterday Bob and I hung pictures at his apartment. It is really looking cute now. He also unpacked some more boxes. He came over last evening and we watched TV together until 9:30.

I slept well last night. In fact I only woke up once ...at 1:00...and then I got right back to sleep. I slept until nearly 5:00.

I baked some more biscuits for my breakfast. I will bag up the remainder and put them in the frig and warm them up in the skillet each morning.

Before the end of December we will need to decide if we want to buy season tickets to Silver Dollar City again this year. I believe we will but I will need to wait until the December check comes in before I can afford to buy them. Yesterday I paid for the George Wint dinner theater in Kansas City. I still have to make my car payment this month. And then there's my trip to see Scott. I will need some money for that too.

More later...

After church we ate at Sirloin Stockade. We all had a good visit too. Then I came home to do my letters. After I get them out on the mailbox, I will try to take a nap. This evening is Living the Questions group at Marilyn's. We need to be there by 6:00. I am taking some fancy crackers. Bob is taking a relish plate.
