Saturday and Laundry

I slept fairly well last night..not the greatest! I was up a little before 5:00AM, dressed and made my bed and got myself ready for the day.

I went in the living room and opened the front door and both cats were waiting for their breakfasts. I took it out to them.and they ate fast and left. Then I went out and swept off the sidewalks and drives. There were seeds everywhere. It was a terrible mess. I don't know how long that will last.

Anyhow after I brought their food in, I caught the weather forecast.

Today is to be 68 degrees and cloudy and windy, Tomorrow is to be 68 degrees too and but sunny and windy. Monday is to be 82 degrees sunny., Tuesday is to be  80 degrees and partly cloudy and windy, Wednesday is to be 80 degrees and mostly cloudy and windy, Thursday is to be 77 degrees and isolated thunderstorms, Friday is to be 64 degrees and partly cloudy and we leave for a week of our church's World Conference in Independence, Missouri on Friday.

That's the week ..one day of rain..lots of wind! We had some rain earlier this morning around 4:00AM.  It woke me up.

More Later....I want to finish my breakfast now.

I had my breakfast and decided to take my walk, There was no wind for a change. It had rained last night...actually about 3:00AM this morning. So it is a nice mild day.

I stepped out front and Blondie was back for additional breakfast so I brought the cat food out again before I left for my walk.

I walked my ten blocks, stopped at the post office and signed a form for them to hold my mail from April 21st until April 28th. They will deliver it all the day I get back.  That way it won't stack up in my mailbox for a week. My bill from the city should be in there. That's the water and trash pickup.

Blondie was gone when I got back so I took the cat food back into the garage and covered it again.

More Later...I will go read.

I checked my mail and the Bartlesville Community Center wrote to to ask if I want to buy a season ticket for next year. I will probably do that since Sally is going to do it again too. She and I take turns driving. It gives us something really neat to entertain ourselves.

I finished my last book. I will offer it to Phyllis at church tomorrow. If she doesn't want it I will donate it to the library like I have done with all the others.

This next year there will be 5 concerts again. starting with October 1st  with "Come From Away" following that will be "Jesus Christ Superstar" the fall of 2023  (no set date yet) followed by "Mean Girls" on Thursday February 1st 2024, and  following that in the Spring of 2024 "  Hairspray" (no set date yet). And lastly on Tuesday April 9th 2024,"The Cher Show". It sounds like a good lineup. Better then this year in fact. They guarantee we will get our same seats at Y 21 and Y 23.

It's almost time for me to take my bath.  I do that at 7:00PM and plan to go to bed at 9:00PM.

Friday and Apartment Cleaning

I slept pretty well last night and was up shortly before 5:00AM, made my bed and got myself ready for the day. Since I went to Chanute yesterday on my regular cleaning day, I will clean today. I am having my breakfast here in the den now. Soon I will check on the cats and turn on the TV for the week's weather forecast.

I caught the cats out front and took their food out there but they didn't eat much and soon left. They must have had food in some other source. I put the cat food back in the garage and covered it.

Then I caught the weather forecast, Today is to be 82 degrees and partly cloudy and windy, tomorrow is to be 74 degrees and partly cloudy and windy, Sunday is to be 67 degrees and mostly sunny and windy,  Monday is to be 75 degrees and sunny, Tuesday is to be 75 degrees and mostly cloudy and windy, Wednesday is to be 77 degrees and cloudy and windy,  and Thursday is to be 80 degrees and PM Thunderstorms. That's the week...one day of rain on Thursday.

I'd better start my cleaning...with the mopping.

It's 9:04AM and I have finished my cleaning and have been reading in my book. I may go to Copan Restaurant for my lunch. Their beef vegetable soup sounds good. It's been awhile since I have had that.

More Even Later...

I received an e-mail from Geek.com about a charge for some sort of computer security.  I called Cox.com and had an IT download on my computer and send that fake e-mail to abuse@cox.net. Another try to scam me to report. I get so tired of these scams.

I went up to Copan Restaurant for my beef vegetable soup and iced tea for lunch. As always, it was very good.

Now I will go back to my book. It's 12:29PM now.

More Later...

I went up to Mr. G's and got a small butter pecan flurry. And I finished another book. It's 3:35PM now. I will give the two of them to Phyllis on Sunday if she wants them. If not, I will drop them into the book drop at the Caney library.

I have one more book to read and donate. That will be all of those books Denise gave me.

I finished the last book I was reading and am starting the very last book. From now on I will have to get free Kindle books downloaded or go to the library.

It is 7:59PM and I just took my bath. I had been reading that last book and took my bath a little later then usual,

I plan to read until about 9:00PM or so and then go on to bed. I have my bed turned down already. I will take my two Melatonin pills and an allergy pill before I go to bed. My allergies are really bad right now. A week from today Leslie and I will leave for World Conference in Independence, Missouri. We will be gone a week.

Thursday and a Trip to Chanute

I am leaving this morning about 9:30AM  to go to Chanute to visit Gay and to meet her for lunch at Opie's in downtown Chanute. It has been several months since I have done that. I miss seeing her on a more regular basis. Since the pandemic, we have not seen one another. We have been friends since she was 14 and I was 17. Now I am 87 and she is 84. It has been a long friendship.

I slept fairly well last night. I was troubled occasionally with my left arm.  It was sore from my mowing yesterday. I laid out an Aleve but I didn't take it. I managed to sleep off and on...mostly on...until 5:00AM. I did take a couple of Melatonin and an allergy pill to keep the drainage from my sinus' down.

When I was in Coffeyville yesterday I notice they are black topping the highway leading to Wal Mart..and beyond north toward Independence. When I left Walmart, I went on the road south of Walmart and over the river toward the fairgrounds to avoid having to drive on that mess.  So this morning I will go to Independence and take the Cherryvale road of 169 to get to Chanute. That way I can avoid that black sticky mess.

Now I will eat my breakfast and check on the cats and the news.

So More Later...

No cats out there yet but I did catch the weather. Today will be 80 degrees and sunny, tomorrow is to be 83 degrees and partly cloudy and windy, Saturday is to be 68 degrees and mostly cloudy,  Sunday is to be 68 degrees and sunny and windy, Monday is to be 79 degrees and sunny, Tuesday is to be 80 degrees and partly cloudy and windy, and Wednesday is to be 81 degrees and partly cloudy and windy. No rain but lots of wind!! And I hate wind! It sets my allergies off.

Finally Blondie came for his breakfast and I fed him. After he ate his fill and left I took the cat food back in the garage and covered it again.

More Later...

I did go on to Chanute and got there in good time. I also had a great visit with Gay and she bought my lunch. She said I had come all the way to Chanute to have lunch with her  and she wanted to buy my lunch. That made sense to me but I sure didn't expect it. I got home  at 3:30PM.

It's 4:21PM now.

I attended Danny's Betterment Group at City Hall this evening at 6:30PM.  It was quite interesting. I received a copy of the minutes and the agenda. The city is getting a condemnation process going for that 211 West 4th Street mess of bricks from the fire at that address on 4th street which is the main street in Caney. That couple lived above the old Caney Hardware store in an apartment there. Sally told me they had insured it for a million dollars and it wasn't worth even a quarter of that much but they burned the apartment above it that they were living in and the the bricks from the building are piled up in the area next door and have been there ever since I moved here and then they tried to collect the insurance from the fire. It has been under investigation ever since. Now the city is investigating it and they want that mess cleaned up!

I hope they can get that done! It's an awful eyesore!

I am going to read until 9:00PM or so when I plan to go to bed. There's nothing on TV that I am interested in at all. I watched the CBS news this evening.

Wednesday and a Hair Appointment

I slept well last night although my left shoulder was very sore from the mowing yesterday. I was up at 6:00AM which is later for me. I made my bed and got myself ready for the day. I was very tired after all the mowing. When I opened the front door both cats were out there hungry for their breakfast. I turned on the TV and finally caught "the weather on the 8's". But first I fed the cats. The ate their fill and after they left, I took the cat food back into the garage and covered it again.

Here 's the weather though: Today is to be 79 degrees and sunny, Tomorrow is to be 80 degrees and sunny, Friday is to be 82 degrees and partly cloudy and windy, Saturday is to be 64 degrees and partly cloudy,  Sunday is to be 69 degrees and sunny, Monday is to be 78 degrees and sunny and Tuesday is to be 78 degrees and mostly cloudy.  That's the week...no rain in the week's forecast..

It's 7:01AM now and I will not leave for Coffeyville and my hair appointment until 8:00AM. So I have approximately an hour to eat my breakfast and drive over there.  I usually stop there at Sonic and get myself a small cherry limeade slush. Then I leave that in the car while I get my hair done.

I have eaten my breakfast and am now having my coffee and will go in the living room to watch the CBS news.

It's nearly 8:00AM now so I will start for Coffeyville and my hair appointment and I will also get gas while I am over there.

It's 10:54AM now and I am finally back in Caney at home.  I did get my hair done and got gas too. I also went out to Walmart there and bought a few groceries I couldn't get at our market here in Caney. But I forgot to get Kleenex so I will get that here at Dollar General.

I finally went out and mowed the rest of the west side yard. It wasn't a huge job. I got most of it done yesterday evening. Then I blew the grass out of the garage and off the drive. I blew all the dirt I could off the mower. I need to take some wet paper towels out there and wipe it down. I will do that after I rest up a bit. It's 12:20PM now. I will warm up some of the broccoli cheese soup I made earlier. I will have it with some crackers. And I bought a big jug of ice tea at Wal Mart. I will have some of that too.

It's 4:21PM and I have been reading a book all afternoon. It was very restful. I guess I will take some wet paper towels out to the garage and try to get some of the dirt off that mower.

Chris, at Smith's Auto and Tire, just called me with an estimate for a new Alternator for my car. I am not going to replace it until the one I have now is needing a replacement.  The estimate was $402.46. That's a pile of money I don't have. I stopped in there yesterday when I had an odd thing happen with the car. I was sitting in the car watching kids play in the park, and I turned off my motor. Suddenly two red icons showed up on my dash...one was a battery and the other was an oil light. The battery is only one year old..Keith replaced it when they were here last year. But I had them look it over. Mr. Smith thought it might be the alternator going out. So they worked me up an estimate just in case that was the case. He said the battery was fine. We were unable to get the lighted icons to show up again when they turned the motor off at the shop. I think it might have been a fluke..And my oil is not supposed to be changed until the gauge says it is down to 15%. Right now it is 30%.

I went out to survey the west side of the yard and saw a few places I had missed. So I started up the mower again and caught those places. So I had to clean up the mower again and dump more grass clippings into the plastic yard bag. Then I trimmed a bit on the hedge and cleaned up those clippings too. So I have a half a bag of that too now. I will not put that in the dumpster until it is a full bag.

More Later:

It's 7:42 PM now and I just had my bath. I have had a pretty big day....mowing and trimming. I imagine I will sleep well. I have read some this afternoon and I will go back to the book until 9:00PM when I imagine I will go on to bed...after I take my Melatonin and allergy pill.

I will go have lunch with Gay in Chanute tomorrow and clean on Friday for a change.

Tuesday and Cookie Delivery and Mowing

I slept fairly well last night and was up around 5:00AM as usual. I made my bed and dressed and got myself ready for the day. I am having my breakfast oatmeal now here in the den. I will take our cookies up to the First Christian Church in Independence this morning at 9:30AM. It's only 6:16AM now so I have awhile before I leave for Independence. In the meantime, I will go watch for "the weather on the 8's" and the cats.

Both cats were there this morning so I took their food out to them and they are eating now. I also caught the weather forecast. Today will be 78 degrees and sunny, tomorrow will be 78 degrees and sunny too, Thursday will be 79 degrees and sunny and Friday is to be 80 degrees and partly cloudy and windy. Saturday is to be 66 degrees and AM thunderstorms, Sunday is to be 69 degrees and sunny and Monday is to be 75 degrees and partly cloudy. That's the week! One day of rain and that is Saturday!

More Later....

I read until time to leave for our church to pick up the cookies from the frig there. That was about 8:45AM. I got to the church and picked up two large bags of cookies and took them to Independence to give to the pastor of the First Christian Church there.  He said I would not have to bring cookies until the first Tuesday in May. They had plenty to last until then.

I left them and then came on back home.  I went up to the only gas station in Caney and bought gas for the mower. I was going to mow my yard but I couldn't get the mower started.  It sounded like there was something dragging under it but when I checked I didn't see a thing. But I couldn't get it to start anyhow. So..I am stuck until someone comes to help me.

Esther said Stephen was going to mow his today after he gets off work. Maybe he can get it started and I can mow then. It's a nice day to do that.

I have started another book but I really am not interested in it. I will take it to the library and drop it in the book drop.

I texted John about the mower but he has a bad cold and I don't think he is going to answer me or help me start the mower.

John was going to come in an hour but in the meantime, I finally got it started so I texted him and told him I didn't need for him to come and that I finally got it started myself.

I finished the front yard and will do the back later this evening,

Then tomorrow or Friday I will do the west side. I want to go visit Gay on Thursday and have lunch with her at Opie's. All I have tomorrow is my hair appointment at 9:00AM so I can do the west side tomorrow afternoon...there's no Bunco or game day this Wednesday.

About 3:00PM I did the mowing in the back yard. It looks fine but needs little trimming.  I may mow the west yard tomorrow afternoon. I am going to Chanute to have lunch with Gay on Thursday. When I get home in the late afternoon I may mow the west side then. It depends on the weather and if I get it done tomorrow afternoon. I also need to trim the entire yard both back, front and west side.

I am tired this evening...not used to mowing. But it is great exercise, I was even able to lift that yard bag full of clippings into the trash dumpster. I am stronger this year then I was the past two years. I couldn't do it before. It's probably the walking exercise I am getting. And then I began mowing toward the last of the season last year. The woman I had doing it wanted to give it up. So I took it on.

Doing it myself will save $100. a month. I will put that in my savings account. I get my social security tomorrow. I finally paid Cox yesterday. I sent it by mail. It wasn't due until the 27th and Leslie and I will be at World Conference that week, We leave on the 21st and won't be back until the 28th.

More Later ...

Stephen came when he got off work and mowed his yard next door. So I was rested by then and I went out and started the west side and got over two thirds of it done before I played out. I also trimmed both the front and back yards and even the west side and got that done.

I will finish mowing it tomorrow afternoon or Thursday. That will be it for the week.

I took my bath at 7:30PM after I emptied the mower bag . That felt good. I will read until 9:00PM or so and then go to bed. I will take my Melatonin and an allergy pill before I go to bed.

Monday and Keith and Esther Leave this Afternoon

I slept well again last night again and was up about 5:00AM as usual. I made up the trundle bed and put it away and dressed and then I crept into the bathroom quietly and made up my face and got myself ready for the day. Then I made my cup of coffee and came here in the den to do the blog...or at least start it. It's 6:30AM now and I will soon go turn on the TV quietly and watch for "the weather on the 8's" and check on the cats.

The kids will be leaving this afternoon and I will be alone again. I will really miss them. We have had quite a visit and taken our walk each day. Esther walks with me first and then she convinces Keith to walk with her again. We have done that each day they have been here. The weather has been beautiful!

I hate it that they have not been able to see Leslie and John while they were here but Leslie came back from their cruise to the islands and was sick. One of her classmates had developed Covid and first she thought she and John just had a bad cold. First they both tested negative so that's why they thought they both just had a cold. She found out the next day though that she then tested positive and she had the Covid. John is just a carrier at this point. They were both fully vaccinated so it must be one of the variants.. But Keith and Esther are leaving for Germany on the 20th and they did not want to take any chance of getting sick. I can't blame them but it's too bad they couldn't see Leslie and John while they were here.

After Keith and Esther left at 1:00PM, I decided to go ahead and go down to Bartlesville and see Nancy. As I figured, she was still in bed. I got her up and she got dressed and we went for  a ride. Then I went to the Okie car wash and washed my car and vacuumed it out. Then I took her to Brahms for a small milk shake.  She had missed lunch and only ate a little of her breakfast. I figured a milk shake would be filling and since it was the only thing she had eaten all day, it wouldn't be a bad thing to fill her up.

We rode around for awhile to get her out of the assisted living and then I took her back and gave her a hug and came back home. I was very tired.

I will read this afternoon until time for the 5:30PM CBS news. I heard a blurb on the radio coming home that there was another mass shooting today.  The only way that will stop is if they eliminate assault weapons, make every gun purchase have a background check, and let no one younger then 21years old buy a gun. It has been simply horrendous the number of mass shootings held here in America. And Only in America!

Sunday and Keith and Esther Go To Church With Me

I was up at 6:30AM this morning, made up my trundle bed in the den and dressed and went in to watch the weather forecast on the TV and to check on the cats. Scruff was the only one to come for her breakfast. Blondie never showed up... again. She also drank some water before she left. I took the cat food in the garage and covered it again.

I had my coffee and my Chai and waited until the kids were up before I ate any breakfast and then Keith and I ate a toasted bagel. Esther got up a little later and had the same thing.

We went out to Eggbert's later to check on the cash card for our Eggbert's that they could not use for me. They had changed cash registers and were no longer able to use cash card. Keith gave me that one last Thanksgiving when they were back here and it was for $50.00. They asked him to come back today (Sunday-Easter) when the manager was there so she could get the old register up and check on the amount on it.

We went to Eggbert's in Coffeyville yesterday for our noon meal. Then Esther wanted to go by the mall there that has all kinds on neat stuff and look around. We went to three different places there.

There were a few from church that didn't make it to church. Either they had company or one had a sick child and that family didn't make it either.  But we had a fair attendance anyhow.

Then we stopped by the Eggbert's here in Caney on Sunday to check it out again after church. The manager couldn't get the old register fired up so they are going to get it tried again tomorrow before they leave for Tulsa and their plane back to Arizona. Esther wanted to go to Bartlesville to look around today so we did. We went to Johnstown Park and took some photos and then we looked at the four houses we lived in there before 1986 when we moved to Caney. They seemed to enjoy that too.

When we got home today I made up and sent out five letters to those who missed church this morning. Seven had company and one had a sick child and so did not come. Melissa spoke and did a good job!

Then we came back here to my home and Keith spent some time checking the basic service I had and checking the ones I did not have checked and could not get. He found me four of five channels that I had never had before because they were not checked yet they were on the basic package I had been  paying for or years.

He worked nearly all day yesterday and got the new laptop they brought me all programmed and also the printer a friend had given him he gave to me and installed it in the den. The new laptop should print from it as well as my desktop computer. They took my old lap that Keith got working again to give to Esther since she will not have her computer until their things get to Germany.

This afternoon we took our walk and I put those letters in the mail.

I took my bath at 7:00PM this evening and got myself ready for bed before I got to this blog. I will read a couple of hours before I go to bed. I brought my Melatonin and allergy pill in the den and will take them before I go to bed. They should help me sleep tonight. In the middle of the night, I will go into the bathroom and take my two medicines with the bottled water in there.

Now I will go read awhile!
