Saturday and the last Day of 2022

I slept fitfully last night. I think I was awake every hour on the hour after 2:00AM. I just couldn't seem to get any restful sleep. Finally I just got up at 4:30AM. I don't have a clue what the problem was. I just couldn't turn off my mind and relax. It happens every once in awhile but I had been sleeping very well lately.

For one thing, I had a problem with my Kindle last night. I called the Amazon "Help" line to get help but the person I talked to didn't know how to help me...strange...it must have been the holiday and the regular "help"person wasn't working. The second time I called for help, I got an automated man who was no help at all. Again, I hung up.The problem was every time I tried to download another book I got an "error" message. Finally, I rebooted the Kindle and that fixed it. That entire experience had me frustrated. That may have been the problem that kept me waking up. Anyhow, it's almost 5:00AM now.

I should go get dressed since my sleep is evidently over...so more later...

O.K. I am dressed and ready for the day. In fact, I am eating my breakfast here in the den.

After I eat, I will go turn on the TV to catch "the  weather on the 8's" and check on the cats too. If they are there, it is usually after 6:00AM or between that time and 6:30AM  and it's only 5:58AM now. So more later...

I lucked out, not only did I find both cats waiting for their breakfast but when I got back in the house, the weather forecast came on,

Today is supposed to be 64 degrees and partly cloudy, Sunday is to be 66 degrees and partly cloudy, Monday is to be 67 degrees and thunderstorms, Tuesday, is to be 46 degrees and partly cloudy, Wednesday is to be 43 degrees and partly cloudy, Thursday is to be 43 degrees and sunny, Friday is to be 50 degrees and mostly sunny.  That's the week! I sure hope we get Monday's thunderstorms. We desperately need the water!

Both cats appear to be gone now. They have eaten their fill and left to find a warmer area, I guess.

I will go bring the cat food in.

I took my mile walk this morning after I watched the TV program on the death of Barbara Walters. I left around 7:50AM and got back home at 8:18AM. I got some trash this morning but not as much as usual. This morning I got about a half grocery bag of trash instead of an entire bag full.

I guess I will go read now....

I read until 3:15PM and then I fixed myself a peanut butter and jelly sandwich for my lunch. I did finish another book.  That's why lunch was so late.

More Later...

I tried to stream ESPN on my computer but I got a message from Cox saying ESPN is not on my schedule. So I can't watch the Ohio State/Georgia Bowl game.

Oh well ..I will go back to reading...

Friday and Dusting

I slept pretty well last night...was only up once and took my meds and went right back to sleep without any problem. I got up about 5:00AM, made my bed, dressed and got myself ready for the day. I am having my breakfast here in the den now.

I have finished and washed my dishes. Soon I will go in the living room and turn on the TV to catch "the weather on the 8's" and check on the cats. I see by the desktop computer that it is 36 degrees  outside now. Of course it's only 5:54AM too. I am hoping it will warm up enough that I can take my walk again this morning.

More later...

Blondie was out front waiting for his breakfast and I took it out. He ate quite a bit and left.I brought the food in the kitchen and I am hoping Scruff will show up soon and I will take it back out for her. She never showed up at all yesterday. She's got to be eating somewhere.

I did catch the weather forecast. Today is to be 53 degrees and mostly sunny,  Saturday is to be 63 degrees and partly cloudy, Sunday  is to be 68 degrees and mostly cloudy, Monday is to be 62 degrees and thunderstorms, Tuesday is to be 45 degrees and partly cloudy, Wednesday is to be 44 degrees and partly cloudy, Thursday is to be 40 degrees and sunny. I sure hope we get that rain on Monday. The Caney River needs it desperately!

More even later...

I took my mile walk this morning again and picked up a grocery bag full of trash from the street again. I just did that yesterday. Even though I pick up all the trash every time I walk, there is always more the next time. It's tragic that there isn't more community pride here. Typical small town, I guess. Although Westmoreland, Kansas, is a small town too in Northern Kansas and Bob's Aunt Osie lived there and we always visited her every Memorial Day weekend. That town was as clean as it could be..Aunt Osie always said if anyone didn't keep the town neat, they would get a lot of hostility from the other residents.

That's how it ought to be. It's too bad every community doesn't require their residents to keep their community neat or risk a ticket or a fine.

I read most of the morning and then at lunchtime I went out to Eggbert's and had lunch.

Afterward I went out to Sonic and had ice cream. That was it for the day.

I read most of the afternoon and finally at 6:00PM, decided to take my bath. I will read some more until my bedtime at 9:00PM.

More Later...

Thursday and Apartment Cleaning and Laundry

I slept well last night and was up shortly before 5:00AM.  I stripped my bed and changed it to clean sheets and put the other sheets in the laundry. I hear the laundry is ready to go into the dryer now. The washer has shut off.

I have everything in the dryer now.

I ate my breakfast here in the den. It's 6:22AM..

I haven't been in the living room and had the TV on for the weather report yet. I am still drinking my coffee and I want to check my checking account too before I go in the living room.

More later...

I opened the front door and Blondie was there waiting for me to bring him some food.I haven't seen Scruff yet. Maybe she will come later...like she did yesterday. Blondie is eating like it had been a long time since his last meal but it was just yesterday. He has put on a lot of weight but then Scruff has too. He may be gone now. When I am sure he is finished and gone, I will go sweep the leaves away from the front door. The weather may come on at 6:48AM...that's just three minutes away.

Sure enough..he finished and is gone and the weather just came on. Today is to be 65 degrees and   partly cloudy and windy, tomorrow is to be 53 degrees and partly cloudy, Saturday is to be 61 degrees and partly cloudy, Sunday is to be 61 degrees and partly cloudy, Monday is to be 63 degrees and thunderstorms, Tuesday is to be 45 degrees and partly cloudy, Wednesday is to be 43 degrees and mostly sunny. That's the next week's forecast.I hope we get the rain The Caney River is very low and we are under a boil order here in Caney. I drink bottled water and the only thing I use Caney water for is batheing and washing dishes.

More later...I need to get the laundry out of the dryer. I got the laundry dried, folded and put away for another week. It's only 57 degrees out there. I think I will take my walk now. It's been awhile  since I have been able to do that with the cold and snow and wind.

I took my mile walk this morning and I could tell it had been a week. Not only could my stamina tell it but I also picked up a full grocery sack full of trash along the street. I put that  in my trash container in front of my garage. But it was a nice morning. a little damp but not enough to get wet.

I haven't even began my cleaning so I'd better get my mopping done or it may take me all day.

I have the floors all mopped and the trash taken out and soon I will begin the vacuuming. I will begin with the den this time and use my new cordless vacuum cleaner that Leslie gave me for Christmas and then go on to the dining room. Those two rooms have a short nap carpet and should not clog the vacuum sweeper.

More later...I don't have to rest now. The cordless sweeper will not be heavy.

I had to empty the canister twice.  And now I am charging it again. I got it all done though before it needed to be charged again.

The throw rugs are in the dryer set on "fresh air" and tumbling.

More even later...

It's 10:17AM and everything is clean and the vacuum is still charging. The instructions say it will take 12 hours to charge. I guess I will read awhile now.

I plan to check Eggbert's and see if they are open again for my lunch. Maybe Sally would like to go to Copan Restaurant instead. It's only 10:22AM so I have plenty of time to decide. Sally doesn't work on Thursdays. Just Monday,Wednesday. and Friday.

I couldn't raise Sally so I went by myself. She must have been with someone else..maybe even her kids. I even rang her doorbell but it was obvious she was not home. I had my small chef salad and iced tea and as usual, it was very good. Then I came back home and had the wife of one of my classmates contact me and tell me they had not received a newsletter in two years. I checked and at that time they didn't have e-mail.They do now so I sent her a copy of this year's and attached it to e-mail. She was able to print it off. She will probably get one of those I sent yesterday in the mail too. I sent out 52 by snail mail.

I took my bath already...shortly before 6:00PM. I had had a busy day and was up early this morning so I was ready. I have my pajamas on and my robe now.I will read before bedtime.

I checked again and Scruff didn't come today. She must have found food somewhere else...or maybe a bird...I hope not.

More later...

I got Dean's check today and cashed it to recover what I had already spent of my own money for stamps, the printing and an ink cartridge.

Wednesday and a Hair Appointment

I slept well last night and was only up one time and took my meds then.   And, oh yes, when I took my bath last night, I had water!! Even hot water!! The city of Caney must have got whatever it was fixed!

This morning before I leave for my hair appointment,I will check on the weather and the cats. It's only 5:30AM now and my hair appointment is at 9:00AM...unless Toni calls or texts me and tells me she can take me earlier. Then I will go over there earlier.

Cox Complete Care is having problems with downloading on folk's computers. They have a new program that refuses to work. I talked to four people before I got Ross. Two of them were women with such a thick Spanish accent, I couldn't understand a word they were saying. It took me four tries before I finally got Ross...who spoke clear English.  I talked to Ross on the phone last night for well over an hour and he walked me through getting my document printed even though he couldn't download on my computer with their new program that isn't working. Microsoft had really messed me up. They had me change my password four times last week....why, I don't have a clue. It may continue to happen. They said something about my being hacked. To my knowledge I have not been hacked. Everything worked fine until they started messing with my desktop computer and making me change my password four times. Google is just as bad, They have done it several times too.  What a mess!

I have had my breakfast here in the den this morning and now I should go in the living room and watch "the weather on the 8's" and see if the cats are out there wanting their breakfast .

So more later..

The cats weren't out there yet. But once again the leaves are blowing around and were in their water and even piled up next to the door. I took the broom out there and swept them off...but with this breeze, the leaves will be back at the door soon. I left the broom out there leaning against the corner of the door. I am sure I will need it again before I leave for Coffeyville and my hair appointment.

After I get my hair done, I will go to their post office there in Coffeyville and buy a roll of stamps to get these newsletters in the mail. I separated them out by states yesterday and put a rubber band around each state's mail.  I will stand there at one of their tables and put the stamps on them and get them in the mail there. There were 52 of them that go by snail mail. All the others that were online got theirs day before yesterday by attachment to e-mail.

I bought the roll of stamps at the Coffeyville post office and stood by one of the  tables and stuck the stamps on the 52 letters. Then I gave the box of letters to the postal worker and she took care of them.

More later...I am still waiting for the "weather on the 8's" to come on the weather station on TV .

The weather finally came on at 6:18AM and Blondie came for his breakfast too. No sign of Scruff yet. I will leave the food out there for awhile..just in case she comes or Blondie comes back for more.

Today is to be 55 degrees and partly cloudy and windy, Thursday is to be 63 degrees and  partly cloudy and windy, Friday is to be 51 degrees and partly cloudy, Saturday is to be 57 degrees and partly cloudy, Sunday is to be 59 degrees and mostly cloudy, Monday is to be 63 degrees and thunderstorms, Tuesday is to be 47 degrees and  partly cloudy. That's the week ahead according to the weather channel. So rain one day next week on Monday. We can use whatever comes. The Caney River is so low because of not enough rain in the fall.

More later...I see Blondie has eaten and left . No sign of Scruff yet.

So More Later...

I got over to Coffeyville shortly before 9:00AM. Toni took care of my  hair and I went by Sonic and bought a cherry limeade slush. I drank that on the way to the car wash...which was not able to wash cars today....it was broken.  Then I came on home. There is a problem with Sonic here in Caney...they have a "boil water " order...probably something to do with our lack of water yesterday. They are very limited with what they can sell because of that. So I didn't get my child's Wacky Pack for lunch today.I may eat some more of that Waldorf salad. It is nearly gone now.

I got a copy of my new supplement policy for Medicare. It is from United American. It cost me $63.00  but I see in the policy that they will raise the premium every year as I age. I might have know...that's what Blue Cross/ Blue Shield did too until it got up to way over $300 a month. Lumico did the same thing. It started out at $120, a month but got up to over $145. a month until I cancelled it. I never exceeded Medicare's deductible Lumico never paid a dime toward my doctor bills. I had to write a check for the cost of my physicals both years. I ended up cancelling my March appointment. There's no sense going to the doctor if I end up paying over $120 for nothing. I have no health problems so it's a waste of my money. If I someday develop some symptoms I will go to the doctor then.

It's a beautiful sunshiny day again..just like yesterday My desktop computer says it is 56 degrees. I took a pitcher of water out to the birdbath in the back and gave the birds some water to drink.I need to spray paint the inside of that bird bath again. That was not a bargain.I paid big money for it and the bowl rusted the first year I had it. I spray painted  when I lived over to the fourplex in Coffeyville the first time. But I need to do it again. It's rusted again.

More Later..

Once Again Microsoft is bugging me about a new password. They have had me change it so much I have no idea which one they want. I tried the one I had in my notes and they said that was not the correct one. Then I tried another one in my notes. It evidently wasn't the correct one either. Now they won't let me set a new one. They are such a terrible problem!

I will be glad when Cox Complete Care is back working again. They can figure this out.

More Later... I am going to go read.

I am going to take my bath in a little bit. Scruff finally came for supper. I fed her and when she finished, I put the food back in the garage and covered it.

I will read after I take my bath ..until bedtime at 9:00PM

Tuesday and Very Little Water

I slept through the night last night and don't believe I was up even once in the night. I got up at my usual 5:00AM this morning, made my bed, dressed and got myself ready for the day. I have very little water this morning but I am lucky to have any at all. Stephen's son has none at all and he and his family live here in Caney too.

I don't have a plan for today yet. A lot depends on the weather.I didn't go to Bartlesville yesterday because there was a layer of ice on the roads. I spread some of the ice melt Stephen gave me on my walk and drive yesterday. That helped a lot.  Nevertheless I did not want to be out on the highways. So I read a lot yesterday and of course I took all my Christmas decorations down and boxed them up and labeled the boxes again. Jeromy, my grandson, will put them in the attic for me the next time he brings Cheyenne, my younger great granddaughter to basketball practice. In the meantime, the boxes are stacked in the garage along the east wall.

I will probably read again today. In a little bit, I will fix my breakfast and check the weather and the cats. It's 6:12AM now and they may be out there waiting for their breakfast too.

I checked the bank and there is still no deposit there from Esther. Strange...

More Later....

When I opened the door the second time, Scruff was there waiting for her breakfast,,,no sign of Blondie. I fed her and took some water out to her too. She ate and left. I knew it was 15 degrees out there and too cold for her to stay there any later.

I left the food out there and sure enough, 15 minutes later...Blondie came and ate too. He is finished now and went to try to find some shelter from the cold.

Then I caught the weather forecast.

Today will be 41 degrees and mostly sunny, tomorrow is to be 54 degrees and partly cloudy and windy, Thursday is to be 64 degrees and partly cloudy, Friday is to be 56 degrees and partly cloudy, Saturday is to be 56 degrees too and partly cloudy, Sunday is to be 60 degrees and partly cloudy, Monday is to be 60 degrees and showers. That's the week! We can certainly use the rain.

I'd better get that cat food back in the garage and close the door now.  More even later...

I went over to Coffeyville this morning to buy a print cartridge for my printer. Then I printed off the Class newsletter and took it to the printer in Bartlesville. Then I went to visit Nancy and took her to Brahms there where we had a small milkshake..Then the print shop called me to tell me they had my newsletter ready and I could pick it up. It cost me about $10.00 more then I was quoted but then it was longer then I told them it would be and by the time I finished it cost more. It was worth it. They did a good job. I took Nancy back to the assisted living and came on back home. I wanted to get those 52 letters folded and in envelopes and ready to go in the mail tomorrow. I will mail them in Coffeyville tomorrow after I get my hair done. That project will be finished for another year.

I still have very little water. I am not sure if I will have enough to bathe this evening. It takes two big pitchers of water to even flush the stool.

Oh Yes! Esther's deposit finally came through!

It's 5:53PM now. I haven't seen the cats again this evening. They will probably be by in the morning for breakfast. I will read until 7:00PM when I will try to get enough water to take my bath. I plan to go to bed at 9:00PM

Monday and a Canceled Trip To Visit Nancy

I slept pretty well until 2:00AM when I woke up with my sinus drainage making my throat sore.  I got up and this time I took an allergy pill immediately. Then I got right back to sleep and slept until 5:00AM. That's when I got up and dressed for the day. I made my bed  and will check my bank balance right away.

Then I will go check on the cats and the weather forecast.

So more later in just a minute..It's just as I suspected..Esther's deposit last Thursday still hasn't hit the bank. It must be the holiday that slowed it down. I will check again later sometime after 9:00AM.

I don't think I will be going back to Bartlesville to see Nancy today. The walk here at my apartment is a sheet of ice.The roads probably are too.

I opened the front door again to check on the cats since it's almost 7:00AM. When I took their food out the sidewalk was just a sheet of ice, I had to be very careful walking out there.

The cats ate quickly and Blondie left but Scruff is still out there, No, she just left too. It's 31 degrees out there and with all that ice on the streets and sidewalks, their little feet are probably very cold..

But I did catch the forecast. Today will be 32 degrees and partly cloudy and windy, Tuesday will be 40 degrees and sunny, Wednesday will be 53 degrees and partly cloudy and windy, Thursday is to be 62 degrees and mostly cloudy,  Friday is to be 56 degrees and partly cloudy, Saturday is to be 54 degrees and AM clouds and PM sun, Sunday is to be 57 degrees and partly cloudy.

More later....

I have decided not to try to drive on those frozen highways. I saw Nancy yesterday so she probably won't miss me today.

I spent the morning putting away my Christmas decorations, labeling the boxes and I asked Jeromy, my grandson, if he would come by next time he is in town taking Cheyenne to basketball practice and put these Christmas decoration boxes back in the attic for me. He said he would. That will be good. At least for another year.

I called Green Country and asked the woman at the desk to go tell Nancy I wouldn't be coming today because of the ice on the roads.

And I was going to go out today to trim back my Mums this morning but it's 32 degrees out there and there is a brisk wind too. My little garden flag is just blowing horizontally.

More Later...

I was spreading some ice melt on the drive and sidewalk and both cats came back for lunch. They ate very fast and then left again. It's just too cold to be out there very long. Maybe they will come again for supper. I will take the food back in the garage in a little bit and cover it again.  I see Blondie came back for just a little bit, ate a tiny bit but then left again. It's just too cold for them to be out there very long.

I hope the ice melt gets the ice melted off my drive and sidewalk. I think it is beginning to do that.

I climbed up into the attic and replaced the burned out light bulb.  When Jeromy was up there getting my Christmas decorations down, he had to use his phone light. I at least fixed that.

The city of Caney has a water problem. I tried to call them about it but no one answers the phone. I tried to flush the stool in the bathroom and the tank was empty. I took my pitcher and filled it with water and then was able to flush it. I notified Stephen and he talked to his son who lives here and they have no water. I have some water but it is slow. Always something.

I was going to have lunch at Eggbert's but they were closed. I came home and ate some of my Waldorf salad for lunch. That is basically fruit so at least it is healthy. Then I went out to Dollar General and bought some things I needed....$19 worth of groceries. Even then I forgot one thing I needed.....trash bags.

Halfway through the afternoon, both Blondie and Scruff came back for more food and so I took it out again and they ate more and then left.

I read for awhile and then watched the CBS evening news.

I took a with bath very little water and what there was was not very hot. I guess I should be glad I had any at all. Caney has that water problem this evening.

My classmate that began our class newsletter called this evening to chat.  He is going to finance the newsletter again this year. He began it right after we graduated  from high school and had it for several years and then passed it on to a woman in Oklahoma City who had it for several years and she passed it on to a woman in Arkansas. And she passed it on to me and I have had it almost 26 years.

It's 7:08PM now and I will be going to bed at 9:00PM so I will go back to my book until then.

Sunday and Christmas

I slept pretty well last night and was only up once and took my meds then.  I was up shortly after 5:00AM and I dressed and got myself ready for the day. I fixed my breakfast and opened the front door to find Scruff out there by herself. I took her food out thee and she ate greedily and when she was full, she left. I never did see Blondie.I guess I will leave the food out there for a little while just in case he comes a little later..  so far he hasn't.

Today is Christmas and later this morning John and Leslie will come pick me up. I will call Nancy's  Green Country Village  and ask them to have someone wake up Nancy and see that she gets dressed for our dinner out. Their telephone number is 918-331-6842.

I did catch the "weather on the 8's" right away. Today is to be 33 degrees and mostly sunny, Monday is to be 30 degrees and partly cloudy, Tuesday is to be 40 degrees and mostly sunny, Wednesday is to be 54 degrees and partly cloudy and windy. Thursday is to be 63 degrees and partly cloudy, Friday is to be 56 degrees and PM showers and Saturday is to be 51 degrees and AM showers. That's the week's weather forecast.

Blondie is out there eating now! I am glad I left the food out there. He is looking around for Scruff and doesn't realize she has already been here and eaten. It's 6:30AM now and I will watch "Hope in the Wild" on CBS.

Now Blondie is gone too. Soon I will bring the cat food in the garage and cover it up. I want to be sure they are finished.

More Later...

My son, Scott, called me this morning to wish me a Merry Christmas. They decided not to go to Ohio after all...the snow storm in the north would be a big problem. They are having breakfast with a neighbor and Scott is going to grill some steaks for their Christmas dinner. They will have it there at home by themselves. A different Christmas...for sure. Ours will be different too..at a restaurant. That's fine. Their son, Jeromy, and his family went to Topeka to be with Marlene's family.

More Even Later.....It's 8:20AM now.

John and Leslie came about 10:30 this morning and picked me up. We drove to Bartlesville and picked up Nancy and stopped at Luigi's to eat and they were closed. It appeared the only restaurant open after all was Ihop..the breakfast place. So we ate there. Luigi's was supposed to be open but perhaps they couldn't get any help to work. The kids were very disappointed but we made the best of it. Ihop was open so we had breakfast instead of dinner. It was good although a lot more food then we anticipated. Nancy and I both boxed up leftovers and we will eat them later after warming them up. I got my arm into the fruit on my pancakes so I am washing my jacket again now.

We came back home and opened our gifts. I sent the gifts for the little girls and Jeromy and Marlene back with them. They gave me a nice cordless vacuum and showed me how to use it. I am charging the battery now. I want to try it out. They had forgotten, if they ever knew,  that Stephen had bought a Shark for the apartment after he learned the smaller vacuum Leslie had given me when I moved here was not capable of doing the entire apartment in one day after we got the new carpet with so much more length and so thick.

I had gotten Leslie a scarf and gloves and John that sign for a fisherman with a joke punch line on it. I also gave Leslie a box of various turquoise earrings.

It was a real treat for Nancy. She loves to get out of the assisted living every week. She was happy to be included in our plans even if it did turn out to be breakfast.  I will take her gift to her on Monday when I go down there. I may go Tuesday but I texted Dale, her cousin, that we had taken her home after we ate. They may go down on Monday. If so, I will go Tuesday.

I have my jacket in the dryer now. The stain came out fine. I figured it would.  I wash it every time I get makeup on it. The collar tends to pick it up from my face. I wash it every once in a while.

Some of the little sparkly Christmas tree decoration on the Christmas wreath Cyndi made for me came off with the wind the day before yesterday. I managed to put it back on and will put it back out on the front of the apartment again after awhile.

More even later...

I had a garden flag in the flowerbed in front of my apartment. It had Santa Claus on it. My landlord gave me a new one with a snowman on it and I went out to hang it in the place of the Santa  Claus and found that someone had stolen it. How aggravating! This place is something else. Every fourth of July, the neighborhood kids shoot fireworks onto my roof or into my yard after I had mowed and cleaned it all up. I told them to stop but they ignored me. I finally called the policewoman and asked her to come talk to them and that got it stopped. But it's always something.

I don't know who stole that garden flag but I know they are a thief! Now I wonder if they will steal the new one. Maybe I should move it into the back yard. What a mess! I have two Christmas wreaths out there too. Those could be stolen next. Maybe I should bring them in and put them in the garage.

More Later....

I did bring the wreaths in the garage. I can't replace them. Tomorrow I will put some hooks on the garage wall and hang them up there. I am going to record 60 Minutes. Right now there is a football game on CBS.

I did take the new garden flag to the back yard. One stolen was enough.  It's 5:44PM now and I may just go take my bath and read until 60 Minutes comes on.
