How to Fix Congress

THIS IS HOW YOU FIX CONGRESS!

I am sending this to virtually everybody on my e-mail list, and that includes conservatives, liberals, and everybody in between. Even though we disagree on a number of issues, I count all of you as friends. My friend and neighbor wants to promote a "Congressional Reform Act of 2010." It would contain eight provisions, all of which would probably be
strongly endorsed by those who drafted the Constitution and the Bill of Rights.

I know that many of you will say "this is impossible." Let me remind
you, Congress has the lowest approval rating of any entity in Government. Now is the time when Americans will join together to reform Congress - the entity that represents us.

We need to get a Senator to introduce this bill in the US Senate and a Representative to introduce a similar bill in the US House. These people will become American heroes.

Congressional Reform Act of 2010

1. Term Limits.
12 years only, one of the possible options below.

A. Two, Six-year Senate terms
B. Six, Two-year House terms
C. One, Six-year Senate term and three, Two-Year House terms.
This applies to all Senate and Congressional Aides as well.

2. No Tenure / No Pension.

A Congressman collects a salary while in office and receives no pay when he/she is out of office.

3. Congress (past, present, and future) participates in Social Security.

All funds in the Congressional retirement fund move to the Social Security system immediately. All future funds flow into the Social Security system, and Congress participates with the American people.

4. Congress can purchase their own retirement plan, just as all Americans do.

5. Congress will no longer vote themselves a pay raise. Congressional pay will rise by the lower of CPI or 3%.

6. Congress loses their current health care system and participates in the same health care system as the American people.

7. Congress must equally abide by all laws they impose on the American people.

8. All contracts with past and present Congressmen are void effective 1/1/11.

The American people did not make this contract with Congressmen. Congressmen made all these contracts for themselves.

9. Lobbying Congress will be illegal and, if committed by a former Senator or House Representative, it will be considered a felony.

Serving in Congress is an honor; not, a career. The Founding Fathers envisioned citizen legislators, serving their term(s), then going home and back to work.

Neat Saturday

Well, I've been busy today. I fed the pets, as usual, and walked the dog then watered the plants as usual and then I put some eggs on to boil and some potatoes because I am supposed to bring potato salad to Leslie and John's tonight. We are going to have a cookout and also shoot off the fireworks we did not get to shoot off last week because of the rain.

So, my potato salad is finished and is good. Scott and I had some before he left for Branson. I made some hamburgers. He has a date there at 4:00. I hope this works out for him because it will help him heal from a very bad relationship he ended last week.

I vacuumed the house this afternoon and then read my book. It's just a little after three now. I will need to be at Leslie's at 5:30 or 6:00.

More later...

Also Busy Friday

Today Scott and I will go to Bartlesville. He wants to go to an early movie there. We will get home before dark. I will call first and get the movie times.

I will fix coffee for him this morning and we will sit on the patio for awhile. It rained some again last evening. He has been on the social networks yesterday evening just chatting with one and then another. It's something for him to do to occupy his mind. He gets bored easily.

I enjoy my own company but not everyone does. Scott doesn't. I can always find something to do to occupy my time. I have several projects I need to do but just can't seem to get motivated. I have my yard swing to paint and my patio bench. I really need to put another coat of paint on my patio floor. Those projects will still be there until I get motivated to do them.

Yesterday Marilyn came over. She is a big supporter of PINCH and wants me to write a letter to the editor of the newspaper to urge people to examine their better natures and work for justice for all and equal treatment for all. I wrote a draft and sent it to her and also to Howard. Howard is the chairperson for PINCH. I believe she said Howard and Judy were out of town and I would not be able to send the letter until they got home and Howard could read it.

More later...

Well, the movie we hoped to see was no longer playing and the ones that are playing are kid's stuff. So we did not go to the movies. I'm glad I checked first.

He played on the computer and I read my book. In the middle of the afternoon, we went to Wal Mart and I bought a few groceries. I don't know what we will do tonight.

Busy Thursday

Scott and I sat out on the patio this morning and visited for a long while. Then we left for Cherryvale about 11:00. We found the restaurant but it was closed both Mondays and Thursdays. So we went to the other restaurant. It was o.k. and we had a good visit with Gay and her little great grandson.

Then we came home and Scott got on the computer and chatted. I watched some TV and napped some. Then we went to El Pueblito and had a light supper.

Now we are watching the news.

We will watch TV if there's anything on tonight.

Another Quiet Day

I don't have anything going today at all. I will take my book back to the library and get another this afternoon. I think I will clean my house today. Tomorrow I will have lunch with Gay over at Cherryvale.

If the grass dries out enough, I will mow today sometime. If I don't get it done soon, I will have to bale it. Too much rain. Yet, the rain has kept it cool.

More later...

I mowed this afternoon. It was a little damp but it was either now or sometime next week. We are to get more rain..possibly tonight. I took the book back but did not see anything more I wanted to read.

Scott called awhile ago and he is taking leave and coming for a week or so. That will give me some company and I will probably be good for him too.

Quiet Tuesday

Today should be a rather quiet day. All I have planned is to go to my sister's home, just as I do every Tuesday. I was going to mow but it rained last night and so the grass will be too wet.

More later...Slinky is barking for his breakfast.

I spent a couple of hours over at Phyllis' and then came home. It is pouring down rain. I made it to the library and also to the jewelry store. Leslie had a cute ring that had lost two diamonds and Helzberg's wanted $265. to fix it. The local jeweler is doing it for $110.00. Go figure!

I will read this James Patterson murder mystery on this rainy day. That's about all I can do.

Tonight I will watch TV.

Well, there was nothing on TV so I just read my book all afternoon and finished it before bed. I will take it back to the library and get another tomorrow.

Tulsa on Monday

Leslie and I went to Tulsa today. We left at 8:30 this morning and drove down to do some shopping. I needed a pair of navy blue sandals and she wanted some new white jeans and a new T. We both found just what we wanted. Then we ate at a steakhouse. I can't recall the name of it but we had a grilled chicken salad with great rolls.

I got home about 3:30 and although it had not rained in Tulsa, it had around here. I was hoping to get my lawn mowed but I think the grass is too wet.

I think there is some decent TV tonight. I will not eat again today but will watch TV this evening.

Church on the Holiday

I don't know how many will be at church this morning. It's a holiday weekend and many may be gone.

I will go to church and then to lunch somewhere before I go out to Leslie and John's for supper and fireworks. I am taking chocolate chip cookies. John is grilling fish and veggies and sweet corn. Leslie is making homemade ice cream.

More later...

We just went to Kentucky Fired Chicken for lunch. I then took a nap and then went on out to the kids' for supper and homemade ice cream. It poured down rain and ruined the fireworks display they had planned. It's supposed to rain all week because of that Texas/Mexico storm.

The home made ice cream was wonderful though!
