Saturday and a Good Night's Sleep

I slept well last night and was up shortly before 5:00AM, made my bed, dressed, and got myself ready for the day. Again, I don't have a plan for today. I got so much done this week what with the laundry, apartment cleaning, trimming after Krystal mowed and trimming the hedge and weeding. I still have to finish the latest book I have been reading..

Later today I want to text the congregation that I am looking forward to seeing them at church tomorrow. Then next week I will send out letters to everyone encouraging them to stay after church next the Sunday on the 22nd for the celebration dinner we are holding for Matthew to celebrate his graduation from high school.

On the 18th through the 20th I am looking forward to a short visit with Dean, the classmate that started the class newsletter that I send out at Christmastime each year. He has a farm over at South Coffeyville that he leases out to a farmer and his wife and he likes to check it out and make sure they don't need anything. I have met the wife at one of his visits here. She seems quite nice.

Dean started the class newsletter when he went to KU right after he graduated from Coffeyville Junior College in 1955. He wanted to keep every one of our classmates in touch after we graduated high school in 1953. He kept it for ten  or 15 years and then passed it on to a classmate in Oklahoma City who kept it going  for 10 or 15 years and then passed it on a classmate in Arkansas who did it for 10 or 15 years and she passed it on to me. I have had it for 24 years this year. I have no one to pass it on to before I am gone. We started out with 289 classmates and now we are down to 111 as of December 2021.

We used to send our news with a Christmas card and some still do that but many send it by e-mail and I just copy from that and paste it into the newsletter.

Enough of that...I will go watch "weather on the 8's" now and check out the cats. Blondie was the only one that came for supper last night. If Scruff is out there, she will be hungry.

Both cats were out there and both ate their fill before I took the food back to the garage and covered it again. I finally caught the weather forecast too.

Today is to be 88 degrees and sunny, Sunday 84 degrees and thunderstorms, Monday 80 degrees and sunny, Tuesday 82 degrees and isolated thunderstorms, Wednesday 88 degrees and partly cloudy, Thursday 88 degrees and partly cloudy, And Friday 80 degrees and partly cloudy. That's the week.

I caught the Saturday morning CBS news today. It's 7:55AM right now.

Scruff came back again after Blondie left and ate some more until she was full then I took the bowl back to the garage and covered it again.

I finished the latest free book from Amazon. I will need to download another one if I want to read again.

I went out to Dollar General and bought a few things I couldn't get at our Caney Market. While I was there, Keith and Esther tried to call me several times. I couldn't hear the notifications. It just made a soft vibration whirl sound. I worked on "settings" and found an actual sound of a ring and made it ring louder. The kids have changed their schedule for their visit with me to Wednesday after next until the following Saturday. That's the 25th until the 28th. If they had left it the schedule they originally planned, it would have been over $1,000 per ticket and that's highway robbery...actually a racket.

More even later...

I wrote letters for most of the congregation and I will send them off on the 18th. It concerns the graduation party for Matthew. I want to be sure everyone is aware of the dinner we will be having after church on the 22nd..It's a lasagna/ spaghetti and meat ball type dinner. I intend to take coleslaw to go with the main dishes and perhaps a dessert.

More later..

It is 6:20PM now and I couldn't think of a thing to eat this evening so I went out to Sonic and bought a small Reese's Blast. That isn't on my diet but I don't do it a lot so I figured "what the heck!" It was either that or a peanut butter and jelly sandwich. One was about as bad as the other.

At 7:00PM, I will take my bath and plan to read until 9:00PM when I usually go to bed.

Friday and No Particular Plan Except the Hedge

Amazing! I woke up a couple of times in the night but I ended up sleeping until almost 6:00AM. I don't know when I have slept until nearly 6:00AM. I have made my bed and dressed and got myself ready for the day and am just getting ready to make my breakfast.

I'll get back to this when I get that done.

I have my breakfast here now and will eat while I blog as usual.

I had a lot of drainage last night with my allergies.I always have a terrible time in the spring.

I don't have anything in particular planned for today. I got an awfully lot done yesterday what with cleaning the apartment thoroughly and trimming the yard after Krystal mowed yesterday afternoon. I even watered the flowerbeds although I am pretty sure it rained last night. I heard thunder several times and it woke me up.

I got the Kindle charged again last night so I may just read some more.

I should go check on the cats. It's after 7:00AM now and they may have given up on me feeding them.

I will be back to this in a minute.

They must have given up on me. They aren't out there. I will check again later.

I'll go watch for "the weather on the 8's" now.

I got there in time for the week's forecast . Today will be 84 degrees and scattered thunderstorms, Saturday will be 88 degrees and sunny, Sunday 86 degrees and thunderstorms, Monday 78 degrees and mostly sunny, Tuesday 83 degrees and thunderstorms,Wednesday 88 degrees and partly cloudy, Thursday 88 degrees and partly cloudy. That's it for a week.

It's 7:30AM now.

It's 8:51AM now and I have been watching the CBS news.  Now I see a hummingbird eating from my feeder. I put plain sugar water in it a couple of days ago and they are eating that just as well as the stuff I bought at the hardware store. Wayne Bishop used to do that and so does my daughter, Leslie. I thought I would try it and it works fine. I don't have a lot of hummingbirds here but I see one now and then every day.

So, more even later... I will go download another book.

I started another book....another  mystery. It's 10:06AM now. From the looks of my watch, I need to charge it again.

My one little hummingbird is back eating from my feeder. I guess it's the same one. I have never seen but one at a time there.

Well, back to the book!

Actually, I have been trimming my hedge and pulling weeds out of the hedge.

I decided the time had come to do something about that hedge.

The watch is charged again too. I have it back together and on my wrist again.

I am going down to the Copan Restaurant and have my small chef salad. It's been awhile since I have done that. I ate all of the Chicken Alfredo that Stephen and Dee Anna brought me yesterday. It was very good!

I did go to the Copan Truck Stop and have my small chef salad and iced tea. Then I came back home and read until just now. It's 2:50PM and I believe I will go up to Big G's and have a small butter pecan flurry for dessert.

My son, Keith, just got back from Paris and he called me and I missed his call. I called him back and we had a good visit.

More even later...

It's 4:40PM now and I have been reading all afternoon.  I am not particularly interested in this latest book..It's too "science fiction" for my taste.

I believe the CBS evening news is on at 5:30PM. That gives me some time before I turn it on.

I hope we don't send our troops into the Russian/Ukraine war.  We need to negotiate ourselves out of that before the Russians decide to send us an atomic bomb to end it.

I will take my bath at 7:00PM and plan to go to bed at 9:00PM

Thursday and Apartment Cleaning

I slept well again last night since I took two Melatonin tablets when I went to bed. I was up shortly before 5:00AM and made my bed, dressed and got myself ready for the day.  As usual, I am having my breakfast here in the den. I will clean the apartment this morning. and later this afternoon Krystal will mow the grass for me. I hope it doesn't rain. That is forecast for tomorrow. But this is Kansas and anything is possible.

I must remember to go to the Caney Drug store here and pick up the hearing aid batteries they ordered for me yesterday and they are supposed to be in this afternoon. I put the last one I had in yesterday afternoon. They usually last a week. I went ahead and ordered a packet of 16 and that should last me awhile.

I want to get my coffeecake mix today. I hope the Caney Market reordered them. If not, I will have to go out of town to get it. I want to bake it for Sunday the 22nd 's celebration of Matthew's graduation from high school after church on that Sunday. Matthew is Leeann's second son. Her oldest one graduated last year. Leslie has ordered a special cake for the occasion from the Laurel Street bakery in Independence.

I will go check out the "weather on the 8's" now and since it's after 6:00AM, I will also see if the cats are out there for their breakfast.

Both cats were out there so I took their food out to them and when they finished eating and left, I took it back in the garage and covered it again.

The forecast for today is 91 degrees and sunny, tomorrow is to be 85 degrees and thunderstorms, Saturday 87 degrees and partly cloudy, Sunday 83 degrees and thunderstorms, Monday 82 degrees and partly cloudy, Tuesday 86 degrees and partly cloudy and Wednesday 88 degrees and partly cloudy. Not much different from yesterday's forecast.

I have the mopping of the bare floors finished and have vacuumed the bedroom and hall and den. Now I am going to rest before I tackle the living room and dining room.  Pushing that new sweeper around is exhausting but if I rest before I do the last two rooms I can get it done eventually. At least I don't have to let the sweeper cool down over night like I did my vacuum sweeper. I will just sit here and rest a few minutes.

Scruff came back for more breakfast before I started the cleaning again  and I took the cat food back out for her. She ate what she wanted and then I put it away in the garage and covered it again.

I will get back to the cleaning in a little while.

I got the living room finished and still have the dining room rug to do and the dusting. I will rest awhile again and drink some water. Pushing the sweeper around over that thick carpet really wears me out but if I take my time and rest every once in awhile, I can handle it. Getting old is not for sissies! :)

..it's 8:50AM now.

It's 9:06AM now and all I lack is the dusting. I will wait awhile to do that. I have the rest of the day.

I finally got the dusting done too.

It's almost 11:00AM and I have been reading for a couple of hours. In a little while I will heat up some of that Chicken Alfredo that Stephen and Dee Anna brought me yesterday. It will make a nice lunch!

It made a great lunch..very tasty!!

I went to the market to get my coffee cake mix. They will order it.

Right now the wholesaler is out of them. They will  try again this Sunday. I need to go up to the Caney Drug store and see if my hearing aide batteries came in this afternoon.

So more even later.

Krystal came and mowed and after she finished and left, I trimmed again.

I still need to go up to Caney Drug and get those hearing aide batteries I had better do that now before they close. It's 4:50PM now.

I got there in time to get my hearing aide batteries. They don't close until 6:00PM.

I will read awhile and at 7:00PM, I will take my bath, put my pajamas on and watch TV or read more. I plan to go to bed at 9:00PM.

Wednesday and A Hair Appointment

I was up shortly before 5:00AM this morning and had slept well. I checked my checking account and my social security had come in so I transferred $100 into my savings account. I want to build my savings back up after all the expense of the past few months. Between the crown and the car repair I had spent over two thousand dollars out of my savings. I have to get it built back up over time.

I am eating my breakfast now in here in the den as usual.

My hair appointment is at 9:00AM in Coffeyville so I will leave here about 8:15AM. It's 5:50AM now so I have quite a bit of time.. I will need to go to the market sometime today too. And I need to get some of that Omeprazole for my stomach.  I will need to go to either Walmart or the Dollar General store to get that. Dr. Christensen does not want me taking Tums or Rolaids. If I eat too much or something too spicy, my stomach acts up and I have indigestion.

More later..I will go check "the weather  on the 8's" and on the cats. They may be out there this morning.

No cats yet and that's strange. It's 6:21AM. I did catch the weather forecast though. Today is to be 89 degrees and clouds, Thursday will be 91 degrees and mostly sunny, Friday is to be 86 degrees and isolated thunderstorms, Saturday is to be 87 degrees and mostly sunny, and Sunday 83 degrees and partly cloudy, Monday is to be 84 degrees and mostly sunny, Tuesday is to be 84 degrees and mostly cloudy.

The cats both finally came for their breakfasts and I took their food out to them and they ate their fill and left and then I took the food back into the garage and covered it.

I will try to find some news now. It's 7:10AM. So, more later..

I watched the news until 8:15AM and then I left for Coffeyville and my hair appointment. I stopped at the bank first and then went on to Sonic and bought a medium cherry limeade slush. Then I went on the get my hair done. Next I went out to their Walmart store and bought $70.00 worth of groceries. ...mostly things the Caney Market doesn't carry.

Then I came on back home and put away those groceries. Suzanne came  while I was doing that and brought me a stack of newspapers. So I will have plenty to read for awhile. I gave her back that little bag with the container in it that contained the delicious chicken and noodles she brought me a couple of weeks ago.

At about 12:30PM, I went out to our Sonic and ordered the kid's Wacky Pack with chicken strips and french fries and a tiny Coke. On Wednesday's that costs $2.18. I often get it for my lunch on Wednesdays. I always give Jody  (the car hop) a $1. tip when I do that. When I washed my car down at Bartlesville on Monday, While I was vacuuming it out, I saw a Sonic gift card on the ground there and picked it up. So today I asked Jody to check and see if it had any credit left on it. There was evidently enough to pay for that Wacky Pack. I don't know how much more it might have on it but I put it back in my envelope. Next time I am at a Sonic, I will try to use it and will see.

I texted Krystal to see if she was still planning to mow this afternoon. She said something had come up and asked if she could do it tomorrow. I wonder when she was going to tell me. I told her that would be fine. Friday is supposed to be isolated thunderstorms so I hope she gets it done tomorrow.

 More even later...

Stephen and Dee Anna came over and brought me some of the casserole they had had catered for their daughter's college graduation party. That was really nice of them to think of sharing that with me. I will have some of it for lunch tomorrow and maybe for a couple of days...or more.  It looks really good.  They are really nice and thoughtful folks!

I am about ready to take my bath now. Then I will put my pajamas on and my robe and read some more until 9:00PM, my bedtime.

Tuesday and Laundry

I slept well last night and was up shortly before 5:00AM. Of course, I took two Melatonin tablets and that helped, I'm sure.

I am doing laundry this morning and having my breakfast here in the den. It's 6:01AM now. In a little bit I will go see if there are any cats out there for breakfast and check on "the weather on the 8's"....as soon as I finish my breakfast.

I just put the laundry in the dryer.

So more later...

Both cats were there for their breakfast and I even caught "the weather on the 8's" too.

I took their food out to them.

Today's temperature is supposed to be 89 degrees and partly cloudy.  Wednesday's is to be 90 degrees and partly cloudy, Thursday is to be 91 degrees and partly cloudy, Friday is to be 87 degrees and thunderstorms, Saturday is supposed to be 86 degrees and partly cloudy, and  Sunday is to be 82 degrees and partly cloudy, and Monday 86 degrees and partly cloudy. It doesn't look like any sunshine this week.

The cats finished eating and left so I put their food back in the garage and covered it.

Then I folded the clothes out of the dryer and put them away.

It's 9:40AM and I have been reading a new book on Kindle. ..another detective story...

More even later....

Well, I finished the book and will have to download another one after the Kindle charges again.

I went up to Mr. G's and had a small butter pecan flurry for my luncheon  dessert.

For $3.19 you can hardly beat it for a treat.

It's 7:09PM and I have just had my bath. I plan to read the newly downloaded book until 9:00PM and then go to bed.

Monday and A Trip to See Nancy

I was up shortly before 5:00AM this morning. I am dressed and ready for the day and having my breakfast here in the den.

The beautician there at Assisted Living in Bartlesville insists she has to do Nancy's hair on Tuesday afternoons and since I take Nancy to lunch on Tuesdays and for a drive when the weather is nice, she hasn't had her hair done in four or five weeks. It looks bad and I am quite sure it must feel terrible too. She says she goes down to get Nancy on Tuesday afternoons and she is always gone. That's true, of course, because I always take Nancy to lunch and when the weather is nice, for a long drive to get her out of that small apartment. There isn't really any real reason why she can't get Nancy on a different day except the woman is simply unreasonable. They don't have regular appointments and the woman just goes to their rooms to get them when she has an opening. But to accommodate her I am going to start going down on Mondays or Wednesday when I don't have game day or Bunco at the senior center on Wednesdays.  That will remove her excuse for not doing Nancy's hair. Grrr.

I am going to write letters to Gene and Billie Jo and Chris this morning and send the three of them a bulletin with the announcements and the prayer list. I realize yesterday was Mother's Day and Chris probably spent his day with his mother and Billie Jo with her family but Gene is usually there and he wasn't this time. I will just tell them they were missed.

I got those letters finished and ready to go out with the mail.

It's 6:05AM now and I am going to try to catch "the weather on the 8's".

More later...

Both cats were out there waiting for their breakfast so I took their food out there. I also managed to catch "the weather on the 8's ".

Today calls for 89 degrees and partly cloudy and windy,Tuesday  will be 90 degrees and sunny. Wednesday 90 degrees and partly cloudy, Thursday  90 degrees and partly cloudy and Friday 86 degrees and cloudy, Saturday 83 degrees and thunderstorms and Sunday 77 degrees and mostly sunny. That's the week this week.

More even later...

I had a lovely candle in the mail today probably for Mother's Day but there was no return address on it so I don't know which child sent it to me. It's probably either Scott and Ginger or Keith and Esther  but I don't have a clue which one. Leslie had sent me flowers. It turns out Ginger sent the candle. She is so thoughtful! I e-mailed her and thanked her for it. I will send her a thank you card too. I have that out on the mailbox for Michael to pick up tomorrow.

I went down to visit Nancy today and I brought her back to Caney to see the damage from the fire in the business across the alley just east of the Blackledge building. Then we drove around Caney so she could see her house and the various neighborhoods. Then I took her to lunch at Eggbert's and then back to Bartlesville to the assisted living place where she now lives. I got back home at 1:46PM. I also bought gas while I was down there.

I have read in my Kindle this afternoon and finished another book. It's 7:31 PM now and I am going to take my bath. Then I will download another book and read until bedtime...about 9:00PM.

I dry cleaned the floor mats on my car. They had become dirty and I had some carpet cleaner for the car so I cleaned on it.

I didn't see the cats this evening although I see my landlord and his wife are back to the duplex here.

Yes, and Scruff did come to eat supper all by herself.  I fed her and when she finished, I took the cat food back into the garage.

I put away the Kindle and am ready to go to bed. It is 9:06PM now and time for bed.

Sunday and Church and Mother's Day

I slept fairly well last night and would have slept better but just as I was going to sleep, Scott texted me with a new e-mail address and a new telephone number. He said he had been hacked and had to change both.I can certainly understand that.

Leslie had called me earlier and suggested that John would grill steaks and she would fix a salad and we would have Mother's Day dinner at their home. That sounded great to me. John does a great job grilling steaks and I love going out to their home for one of their dinners. She said what restaurants that would be open would be packed and I imagine she is right about that.

I will go out to church a little early to be sure the place is clean. Leslie is on call this weekend and I hope she doesn't get called out on Mother's Day. That would be a heck of a Mother's Day for her. She says they usually handle that online anymore. So if she did get contacted, she would just have to go upstairs and be on her computer for awhile.

I will go check out "the weather on the 8's" in a little bit and also see if the cats are out there for their breakfast. They didn't come for supper last evening so they may be especially hungry.

It's just as I thought. They were both out there very hungry! I fed them and now I will wait until they are finished and then take the cat food back to the garage.

 More later....

It didn't take long for them to get their fill.

I took the cat food back in the garage and covered it.

And I managed to catch the weather for the week.

Today will be 85 degrees and partly cloudy and windy. Tomorrow is to be 91 degrees and sunny and windy, Tuesday 90 degrees and partly cloudy, Wednesday 90 degrees and partly cloudy, Thursday 90 degrees and partly cloudy, and Friday 86 degrees and PM thunderstorms. And Saturday 88 degrees and PM thunderstorms.

That's it for the week.

More even later...

I left for the church about 9:30AM and planned to clean whatever needed cleaning and sweep off the front walk.

That's what I did. After church, I went out to John and Leslie's. Leslie had been called twice while she was at church trying to run the projector. She put them off until 12:30PM when she promised to call them back.

When she finally did get home, she had two more calls to call back...a total of four. John ended up doing all the dinner preparation. I wasn't sure what he wanted me to do. I set the table and he ran the air cooker with the french fries, cooked the steaks and put the bread sticks in the oven. He even put the salad in a bowl to be served with the meat and french fries. Everything was very good but he did it all. Finally Leslie got off the phone and was able to eat her dinner too.She cut our pie and put ice cream on it and we finished the meal. She and I loaded the dishwasher afterward. Then while John watched TV, she and I went out on the porch and visited and watched the hummingbirds eat. She had a bunch of them!!

I got home about 4:00PM and I texted Krystal. She said she would be over to mow in 5 minutes. I wanted thirty minutes and she finally came. She had an aunt still coming to visit. I looked at the yard and told her we could wait until Wednesday for her to mow. So I put the mower and yard bag away and went back to my book.

Now I am about to log on to the Mission Center service.

It's 7:02PM now and I am going to take my bath and put my pajamas on and robe and read some more.

 So more even later... perhaps...
