Saturday and Mulching the Flowerbed

I slept well again last night, I did take two Melatonin tablets. I think my sleep problem is the blue light that is emitted by my electronics...Smart phone, computers, TV, and Kindle.  It destroys the melatonin the body makes naturally. If you replace that light with melatonin in pill form, your natural sleep happens.

I got up at 5:00AM this morning, made my bed, dressed and got myself ready for the day. I have even had my breakfast and coffee and it is near 6:00AM. I will go turn on "the weather on the 8's" next and in about 30 minutes I will check on the cats.

 

Sure enough there were three hungry cats out there. 

My phone says it is 68 degrees this morning.  I want to get the new flowers in the back flowerbed mulched today. We are forecast for rain the next three days.

So, more later... 

I got the back flowerbed mulched. Maybe that will keep the moisture in.

 

 

I tried to order some makeup at our Merle Norman store in Independence but they never called me back. They have closed the store but told me they would deliver anything I needed to me since they come up from Bartlesville every day to work in Independence at a hair salon. They gave me a card with their number. I will just make a trip to Chanute this next week and buy what I need there and have lunch with Gay while I am there.

I read all evening and almost finished my latest book. I took my bath shortly after  7:00PM and stayed up until well after 10:30PM reading. Then my eyes were just too tired to finish so I just went on to bed.

Friday and a Good Night's Sleep

I slept well last night and was up at 5:00AM as usual. I dressed, made my bed and fixed my breakfast. The Melatonin worked well plus the fact that I was very tired. It's 6:00AM now and I haven't had "the weather on the 8's" on yet. I haven't checked on the cats yet either. I will take my coffee in the living room and do that before resuming here.

Sure enough there were three cats waiting for their breakfast. They are eating like they haven't eaten in a week. They must know by now that if they walk away from that food, I will bring the bowls back in and put them away.

I also wrote my May rent check while I was up and got it ready for Steve or Suzanne to pick up. 

I finished my coffee and made up my Chai Latte. While I was at the Coffeyville Walmart on Wednesday, I bought two boxes of it. The Independence store does not carry it and since it's a Walmart brand, the grocery market here in Caney doesn't have it ether.

I see the cats have finished eating so I will bring in the bowls now.

Blondie stayed out there in front of the door. He is friendlier  then most of the cats. He is the one that tries to come in when I open the door. Of course I don't let him in.

I went out to Eggbert's for lunch and had my usual....chicken salad on lettuce with a muffin and a small bowl of fruit fruit and iced tea for a beverage. 

I read all afternoon. But first  I took that last piece of cherry pie to Nancy...she was sick to her stomach again. She had not got her bedding plants planted. I watered them since she had left them on her back deck in the sun. Then I came back home.

The battery is down again on the Kindle. I have it charging again now. It's 5:04PM and I had hoped to finish that book this afternoon. Maybe I still can before bedtime.

I want to go out to that place on the highway that has bedding plants and see if I can find some red ones to plant in my flowerbed. I will do that right now.

I found them at the Caney Market for $1.29 a packet.  They wanted $5.00 each at the place at the highway. I planted six. I took a couple of photos but the color red did not show up well. The Dusty Miller shows up plenty white. It was much smaller last year. I left it to make it through the winter. It got huge. Now I am hesitant to try to transplant it this late.

 

I am exhausted this afternoon and I don't know why except that I have been sitting and reading a lot today.

It's 6:12PM now and at 7:00PM, I will take my bath and try to go to bed at 9:00PM like I did last night.

Thursday and Shopping for Flowers

I slept very poorly last night and woke up every hour on the hour after midnight until a little after three when I just gave up and got up. I guess I will start taking Melatonin again tonight.

I dressed and ate my breakfast and checked my e-mail. I had received the County Chronicle and passed it on to those I share it with after I had read it first myself.

It's almost 5:00AM now and I guess I will go read on my latest mystery book again.

More later...

I read until 7:38AM when I finished the latest book. Then I opened the door to find three cats..Inky, Blondie and Scruff. I fed them. Luckily they didn't give up on me but just waited me out.

I haven't even had "the weather on the 8's" on yet...or the TV. I just turned it on. I will check the weather before I go back to the blog.

I also need to go to the Caney Market and look for some breakfast bars. If they don't have them I can get them at Dollar General.

My niece, Denise, came over about 9:00AM to visit. She is very upset and has got to get her brother out of her place. He has quit his job...just walked off without any notice and is sponging off of her and about to drive her crazy. He does nothing at all and has even quit looking for a job. He says Spears, here in Caney, wants him to come back to his job. 

I told her she would have to get his friend who took his truck to get it fixed, to bring his truck back to him so he will have transportation. They have it parked at his friend's mom's farm. It has an expired tag, no insurance and an expired driver's license and no telling what else.  He has no furniture so he needs a furnished room. 

If he got the job back at Spears, he would need a furnished room here in Caney. He could eat his meals out. What a mess!

At this point, she is stuck. 

After lunch, I went over to Nancy's and found her dressed and in good shape. We took a trip to Independence to Winkleman's nursery and bought our hanging plants. Nancy bought bedding plants too.

I read until 7:00PM, took my bath and watched some recorded TV programs. Suzanne called and wanted me to walk with her but I was way too tired this time and begged off. I read some more and redid my lists of books showing the ones I had read.

At 9:00PM, I went on to bed. I did take two Melatonin tablets this time.

Wednesday and Game Day

 This will be a busy day. I woke up several times in the night but managed to get back to sleep an hour at a time. Finally, at 5:00AM, I just got up and dressed and got my breakfast ready. I am waiting for my oatmeal to cool enough to eat it.

I think I chipped a lower central tooth last night crunching ice. I will see if I can smooth it off with a course emery board. If not, I will have to go see my dentist and have it smoothed off. But not today.

Today I have my hair appointment for color and cut day and game day after lunch. I will take my cherry pie. We never did eat it last week. Keith has diabetes and it was all Esther could do to discourage him from eating sweets.

I never did see any of the cats last evening, They usually come for supper but none showed up last evening. I kept checking. I don't know whether it rained last night or not.

I guess I will go turn on the TV and watch "the weather on the 8's". It was supposed to rain today and tomorrow. We will see.

More later... 

Sure enough..there were three hungry cats out there waiting for their breakfast. When I put one of the dishes down one of the hungry cats spilled it and I had to scoop up what I could salvage. Some of it went into the flowerbed where the stones are that line that flower bed. That part is just lost. Inky is out there and Blondie and yellow Scruff.  It's been awhile since I have seen their mother..Scruffie.

According to the weather we are forecast for thunderstorms at an 80% chance today and also tonight.

It's 6:20AM now and I plan to leave here about 7:45AM for my hair appointment in Coffeyville.

I got the Coffeyville early and went to their Walmart to buy my Chai Latte. Then I went to the senior center and put my cherry pie in the frig there. After that I went on up to Toni's salon and she got me in a little early and did my hair. I went back to the senior center and sat in the car and read until time for game day.

After the game was over it began to rain in Coffeyville and I came on back home. By the time I got to Tyro, the rain had stopped. I put away my purchases and went back to my Kindle.

It's 4:21PM now.  I probably won't eat any dinner since I had so much in the way of sweets at the senior center. I will go watch the news for awhile. 

Later in the evening a lot of thunder signaled a hard rain. When that finally moved on, I fed three cats that braved the wet street to come eat.

I watched the news and took my bath at 7:00PM and then read on another book until  9:00PM when I went on to bed.

Tuesday and Cakes

 I slept fitfully last night. That's the first time that has happened in a long time. I must have woke up four or five times. Finally at 5:00AM, I got up and dressed and got myself ready for the day. I have had my juice and breakfast bar and am ready to eat my oatmeal now. It's a little after 6:00AM.

I will go watch the "weather on the 8's" and after I feed what cats are out there, I will watch "Bull". I recorded that program last night.

About 9:00AM, I will pick up the other cakes over to Coffeyville and take them to Independence to the First Christian Church there. They are not opening their office until 10:00AM nowadays so I won't have to get there so early.

I still have time before leaving for Coffeyville to pick up the cakes. It is 7:53AM now.

I picked up the cakes about 9:30AM and also went to the bank and took the cakes to Independence after that. I stopped at the Independence Walmart to get more green bananas and also Chai Latte but once again, they did not carry it. So tomorrow when I go back to Coffeyville for my hair appointment and game day, I will go to the Coffeyville Walmart and try to get my Chai Latte. This is the second time I found that the Independence Walmart does not carry Chai Latte so I will not go there again. Anything I can get at the Caney Market, I will buy there to support it. But their bananas are way too ripe and do not make it through the week. I get green ones at the Walmart stores and put them in the green bags with a paper towel and tie them up tight and they make it through the week just fine.

After I went to Walmart, I stopped by Miller Brothers full service gas station and had them fill my tank. That way I stayed out of the wind. The wind sets off my allergies. Then I came back home.

I called Nancy about our lunch date but once again she was having stomach problems. I told her if she got to feeling better later in the day to call me and I would come over to visit. I doubt if she will. Tuesdays and Wednesdays are the only days she doesn't have the Visiting Angels over there. 

I have been reading in one of my Amazon free books all afternoon. The battery in my Kindle just ran down again. I think that battery is in the process of dying. I plugged it in again to charge. It is 3:53PM right now.

It's 6:59PM now and I have had my bath and will try to find something to read that isn't my Kindle. It is still charging. I plan to go to bed at  9:00PM or so and hope I sleep better tonight.

Monday and Mowing

 I slept well again last night. I haven't taken a Melatonin tablet for three nights and seem to be sleeping well anyhow.

I was up this morning sometime before 5:00AM and dressed and got myself ready for the day. I am having my oatmeal now and drinking my coffee. It is almost 6:00AM now and soon I will go turn on the weather channel and see what to expect today.

Looks like we're going to have rain Wednesday and Thursday. 

Two cats, Inky and Blondie, showed up for breakfast this morning. They ate and then I brought in the dishes.

I came in the den and worked on the list of books I have read and then ordered two new free ones from Amazon. It's only 8:31AM so I guess I will go back to reading again.

I have planned to take Nancy for a ride and perhaps lunch again tomorrow.  I hope I will be able to raise her then . I tried Sunday afternoon but got no response.

For lunch, I had some of that chili I fed the kids when they were here.  I had to go to Dollar General to get the type crackers I wanted though. The Caney Market didn't have them. I also eat hard cheese with my crackers.

I baked my cake for the First Christian Church tomorrow. They are not opening the office until 10:00AM now so I will get my gas at Woodshed while I am in Coffeyville picking up the cakes tomorrow morning. 

Suzanne brought over newspapers this afternoon. She has listed the duplex with a realtor, Jackie Friesburg. She told me about it. I don't know whether she told Brandon or not. I am concerned that a buyer might raise the rent.

I had the yard mowed this evening and I trimmed it. It looks a lot better. I want to get two hanging baskets...one for the front and one for the back hook. I also want to go to the Coffeyville nursery this week and get my bedding plants.

It is 6:48PM now and soon I will take my bath. I am very tired tonight. All I did was trim and sweep. I don't know why I am so tired. I will read some more until bedtime at 9:00PM.

 

Sunday and Church

 I slept well last night until 5:00AM this morning. I got up and dressed, made my bed and got myself ready for the day. I also had my breakfast and am drinking my coffee now. I am not sure whether to bake my coffeecake or not. We had a pretty small congregation last week and if the kids hadn't been here, I would have had to left the rest of it frozen. I ate the last piece last evening. I will play it by ear.

Karan has the sermon today. She is a good speaker. Hopefully she will have a larger congregation then last week.

I will go turn on the "weather on the 8's" and check on the cats. It is 6:41AM now. They are probably out there waiting.

More later... 

Sure enough, there were three cats out there waiting for breakfast. I fed them and one (Scruff) left early. In face Inky has eaten and gone too and only Blondie is still out there.

I have decided not to bake the coffeecake. I have no idea  how many to expect there today and I am out of freezer space so if the congregation is small again today I have no place to freeze the leftover coffeecake.

I will play it by ear in the future and just see how many are there today.

More later... 

We did have a little larger congregation this week, thank goodness. Afterward, Karan and Phyllis and I went over to "Just Us" for dinner. Then I took them back to the church and came back home myself.

I guess I will read this afternoon,  The worship service from Springfield is at 6:00PM this evening and it is on zoom.

We will have church next Sunday but on Mother's Day Sunday most people who have mothers still living will be gone so we will dismiss church that Sunday on May 9th.

I read this afternoon until 5:40PM...nearly time for the evening Worship Service at Springfield. I will watch that on Zoom.

Later I will go back to TV and I have recorded 60 Minutes and will watch that. 

Then I read until 7:00PM and then took my bath and went to bed about 9:00PM
