Saturday and Breakfast Again

Today we will go to Eggberts to have breakfast, as usual. Yesterday afternoon we decided to go to Bartlesville and have lunch. I bought a new top at Christopher and Banks. I had a $10.00 reward card that had to be spent by November 30th. They had tops on sale for $14.95 and counting tax I paid $5.41 for the new top. That was a bargain. We had a bowl of broccoli cheese soup and sweet tea at McAlisters. It was real good soup and hit the spot on a cold day.

I'm not sure what I will do today. I will fix that chicken casserole for lunch. Bob will fix a salad and we will have a veggie. I think I still have some frozen strawberries for dessert.

I am tempted to go to Chanute for that Christmas Open House this afternoon.

Marilyn called and she wanted us to walk down Roosevelt Drive with her.  She didn't want to go alone. I invited her for lunch. I decided to fix chili instead of the chicken casserole. After lunch we walked down Roosevelt Drive.

Then I came home and watched a movie on TV.

Friday and More Exercises

I slept so well last night. I didn't get up until 5:30. I awoke at 3:45 to go to the bathroom but got right back to sleep afterward.

I will go to exercises this morning and although they will have cinnamon rolls at Utopia, I probably will not get one. I have been cheating on my diet lately and it may show up soon if I don't stop it.  I have had coffeecake with my coffee every day this week and I have also had two Sonic blasts this week. I can't do that for long without it beginning to show up on the scales.

I may go out to the Dearing Cafe for chicken and noodles at noon today.....if they are going to have chicken and noodles. If they don't have it scheduled, we will have the chicken casserole I planned to have instead. We finished off the cornbread and beans yesterday.

Missy wants to go outside now but that isn't going to happen. The only time she got into a fight and was badly hurt was when I let her out in the dark last year. So I go out with her and it has to be daylight for that to happen.

I am really enjoying my Keurig coffeemaker. Every morning I have two completely different cups of coffee with no waste.

I opened the box marked Christmas decorations that I found in my storage closet yesterday to find out if I saved any of my Christmas tree decorations...nope. There were garlands for Christmas and other home decorations but no tree decorations.  So later I will go to Hobby Lobby and see what I can find to decorate my new Christmas tree. It came with lights.

More later....

I drove 6.5 miles out to our Wal Mart for Missy's senior Iams cat food and they have quit stocking that senior cat food.  I am so tired of our Wal Mart being out of everything I need.  Bob and I are going to drive to Bartlesville to eat at McAlisters this afternoon and I will stop at their Wal Mart and see if I can get it there.  We were going to eat at the Dearing Cafe but they did not have their chicken and noodles special until next Friday. So, since I am not working yet, we will drive to Bartlesville  for lunch. That won't happen after I go to work except on Saturday.  I will have to be at work at 1:00 starting next Wednesday.

After exercise class a bunch of us went to Utopia for coffee and cinnamon rolls. The cinnamon rolls were not quite done in the middle.  Bob left some of his.

We will watch Brooks and Shields analysis of the news this evening on PBS about 6:30.

Thursday Again

How time flies. This week has just flown by!

Last night, I had a surprise. About 5:00, the handyman showed up and the landlady, Betty, was with him. I thought he had come to replace that broken spring in the door of my dishwasher. Instead, they brought me a new dishwasher.  He spent the evening getting it installed.  I tested it out last evening after he left and it does a real good job. I imagine the other one was original to the apartment, which I think was built in the 1970's. The sink is olive green so that's a dead giveaway. The new dishwasher is a very basic model but I don't care. The simpler the better. As long as it gets the dishes clean. There is less to go wrong with it.

Leslie, my daughter, called yesterday afternoon. She had learned somehow that I had bought the Keurig coffeemaker and bawled me out. She had intended to get me one for Christmas.  She told me not to buy anything for myself from now on in October, November or December.  I told her I got it on sale for $119.00 plus I got a $25.00 gift card which I used to buy coffee for it. Nevertheless, she told me not to do it again. :)

I told Bob that she could buy me a selection of Keurig coffees for Christmas but I forgot to mention that to her. With this Keurig, you have to use genuine Keurig coffees. The off brands will not work with it. And they are expensive.  But I love having two different flavors of coffee each morning and not having to throw away any of the leftover coffee or warm it up in the microwave for the next day.
The Keurig came with a pack of four cup sized coffees and two canister sized coffees. I bought the other coffees I have on their website, keurig.com, with that gift certificate. They are available there in 5 packs. They are cheaper and I can get more of a varied selection.

Bob came over for wine but he got here at the same time as the handyman.  So he just left and we didn't  have our evening wine. The handyman was here until after 7:00. I watched some TV but went to bed fairly early.  For some reason, I was very tired.

Today we will have the leftover beans and cornbread for lunch. I will get some fruit and have cookies with it for dessert.

At this point, I don't really have anything on my agenda for today. The house is clean, the bed has been changed, the dishes are done, all the laundry is caught up. The same is true for tomorrow. I am looking forward to my meeting on Monday with Katie and Aime to do the paperwork for my job. The job starts on Wednesday....after Veteran's Day.

More later...

I got my Samaritan Christmas  Child shoe boxes filled today. So Sunday I'll take mine in to church.

A Disappointing Election

I shouldn't be surprised about the election. Most people don't study the issues before voting. They vote their emotions.....especially the elderly. The culture has changed, we can't deny that.  But voting Republican will only make it worse. The mess we are in right now here in Kansas is due to a Republican governor.  I had hoped Independent Davis could win because it was very close. This same thing happened years ago when the country elected Reagan president.  He thought trickle down economics would help but as it turned out, nothing trickled down and the only way out of that mess was to raise taxes.  That will happen in Kansas. We are now in the worst mess in modern times. Brownback has eliminated taxes on many businesses and the state has to have revenue from somewhere so eventually taxes will have to be raised. The money will come from citizens...property owners. That's why I sold my home and moved into an apartment.  The taxes were terrible.

Today is another exercise day. Since I'm going to work afternoons, I won't have to give up my exercises. I won't start the new job until the 12th. Of course they will withhold my first paycheck so it will be awhile until I see any extra cash.  But I really need to make some extra money and get that car paid off in 22 months.  I also want to repay my savings what I have had to borrow lately.

We are going to eat out today to celebrate that Bob is getting his car insurance deductible back and I have another job. Bob heard from the insurance company yesterday. They recovered their money too. We will have our beans and cornbread again tomorrow.

Tuesday and Voting

The is election day and here it has been raining. I hope the rain doesn't suppress the vote. A small vote is good for the Republicans and a good turnout is good for Democrats. I went to vote at 7:00 this morning....as soon as the polls opened. I am hoping our present Governor, Brownback, will be defeated. He has just about ruined the state's economy. I am a registered Republican but I vote for the man after I have studied the issues. I have never voted the straight ticket and I have never missed voting in an election.

I had a hair appointment  in Independence at 9:00 and I wanted to go to the market before then.

I got my hair done and I have decided to have hamburgers and french fries for lunch today. So I got buns at the market too. I already had hamburger patties and potatoes.

I want to be ready for my job interview at 2:00. I hope that works out.

I slept well last night. Missy woke me up at 3:00 by tapping on my cheek. She had used the litter box and wanted it cleaned up. I really am staff you know.  I did manage to get back to sleep and slept until almost 5:00. Then I stripped my bed and washed the sheets and remade it after they were dry.  I had done the towels and underwear last night.

I had made a coffeecake last evening and I had a piece of that with my two cups of coffee this morning.  I sent a large piece home with Bob too.

They are preparing to tear down our Braums store this week. They say they are going to build a newer and larger one and open again in March.

More later....

Well I got the job!  Now all I have to do is wait for Aime to meet with Katie and do the paperwork. They can then decide when I can start. I will be doing odd jobs like putting away books, dusting shelves, making sure books have been put back in their proper place, and boxing up old books to ship away for recycling. Katie really was interested in my working Saturday afternoons too but I really don't want to do that. I like my weekends and really, I only want 20 hours a week. I will work afternoons five days a week.

Monday and Exercises

I forgot to put my beans on to soak last night so I got up at 3:30 AM this morning and did it. Five hours will be 8:30...just before exercise class. After the class I will have to run to the market for ham. I don't think I have any in the freezer but I will check.

We had a small group last night for Living the Questions group. Only Bobby and Karan and Bob and I and Joyce were there with Marilyn.  Richard had a cold so Mona and he were not there. Keith was not feeling well at all. Joyce left before dessert to check on him. We enjoyed ourselves but it was certainly a small group. Next time the group meets in two weeks, it will be at Bobby and Karan's and it will be a covered dish dinner.

Keith called last night and we had a nice visit. He's such a pleasure. He has decided to go ahead and retire from the Air Force Reserves in December. I e-mailed Scott later. I had not heard from him in awhile. He says he's just fine and just busy getting ready for his retirement in December. He will be back to see the family and me about the middle of December.

I was sort of upset last evening. I learned from his daughter that Doug is not going to make it. Doug is an old friend from Caney originally. He is only 62 or 63 and has always seemed like a child of mine. When Bob and I lived in Caney, he popped in from time to time. He only lived a half block away. In the early 90s he developed a brain aneurism and since no doctor around here did the lazor surgery, he went off to Minnesota to get it done.  It was successful. He had a dental lab and was very good at what he did. Anyhow, to make a long story short, recently he developed a brain tumor.

He now lives in Oklahoma City. He and his wife Denise moved there several years ago. They operated on the brain and removed about 80%-90% of the tumor and had intended to do chemotherapy and radiation to get the rest of it. He has had nothing but complications since. He got very disoriented last weekend and Denise took him to the emergency room. He had very low sodium. They were treating that and then it was discovered that he had a perforated colon and they removed a foot and a half of that.  Now they cannot continue his therapy and the tumor is growing again. They give him a few weeks to live.  I am just sick about it.

More later...

We had our cornbread and beans and they were good. I have enough for another meal for Bob and me and I sent some home with Bobby too.

I had a call from the library this afternoon and I have an interview tomorrow at 2:00 PM.  This may be a very neat job. I hope it works out.

I will try to run the vacuum this afternoon. It's been a week. Tomorrow I want to wash my bedding. I ran Missy's afghans through the dryer on fresh air this morning to get the cat hair off them. I'm quite sure she leaves hair everywhere she lays.

Bob will be over this evening for wine and TV.....I don't know if there's anything to watch on TV. Usually there's not.

Sunday and Church

I slept like a log last night.  It was cool. I awoke at 2:30 and went to the bathroom, took my thyroid pill  and turned the furnace down. Then I went back to bed and back to sleep. It was a little too warm for me.

The first frost got my bedding plants night before last and I pulled them all up yesterday and bagged them up and took them over to the trash. My potted plants out front only got bit a bit so I will get them out later.

Bob came over for a bit last night and we had our wine and some cookies. There was absolutely nothing on TV although after he left I took my bath and put my PJs on and surfed the net. I found Sleepless in Seattle, an old movie that's a chick flick. I watch the last few  minutes of it and then watched some of Pretty Woman, another chick flick that I've seen a half dozen times. Missy crawled upon my lap and slept awhile before we both went to bed after I turned the clocks back. I found those on channel 210, a channel I had never watched before.

This morning I fed Missy and fixed myself a couple of cups of coffee to drink with my biscuit.

Bob and I will go to church this morning and I speak at the 11:00 hour. Karan will preside.  Afterward some of us will eat together somewhere. We make that decision after the services.

This is one of those months where my social security comes in late....on the 12th. So I will be borrowing from my savings until it comes in.  Between my rent and the Blue Cross/Blue Shield,  that takes most of the social security I have hung onto from October. I get nervous about getting into my savings when I am so healthy.  My great aunt Margie lived to be 104 and just died in 2007.

After we get home from lunch, I will do the congregational letters and get them ready for tomorrow's mail.  Then tonight the study group meets at Marilyn's at 7:00.
