Saturday and Sue's Funeral

I slept well last night and got up about 5:00AM and dressed and ate my oatmeal. I turned on the news and watched the pitiful news. There is so much violence in our world anymore. I should vacuum this morning since I hadn't got it done yet this week.

Sue's funeral is at 2:00PM this  afternoon. I am to pick up Phyllis at noon at her home. Then we picked up Karan too. Phyllis is going to work half a day. I want to go early to find the church where the funeral is being held in Neodesha. I was there last year after John died but I have slept since then.

When the CBS news is over I will vacuum.

More later....

I got the apartment vacuumed and the bare floors washed and read until time to go pick up Phyllis and Karan.

We went straight up to Neodesha and found the church where the service would be held. Then we went to the Pizza Hut there and had lunch. We got back to the church in plenty of time. The church filled up with friends and relatives.

The service went fine although they were a little long. Rick and Carmen came and John and Leslie and Cyndi were there.

Afterward Karan wanted to stop at a couple of gift shops there but they were closed. Then she wanted to stop at Independence and look around there too.We did that but most of the stores were closed at noon.

I will need to get up and have breakfast in the morning and put my coffeecake in the oven for the church school class tomorrow.

I got back to Caney by 4:00PM after dropping the women off at Coffeyville  and read the rest of the afternoon and finished my second book a little after 8:00PM when I took my bath and decided to finish this blog and watch the news until 9:00PM or so.

Friday and Apartment Cleaning Day

I slept well last night and got up at 5:00AM as usual. I had my breakfast of oatmeal and coffee and texted Bob to see if he was alright.  He was. He was going to take Joanne and go to the meatloaf luncheon at the senior center. I had already made three trips over there this week so I decided not to go over again. I will be going over tomorrow to pick up Phyllis to go to Neodesha for the funeral.

I will clean the apartment today. I usually do that on Thursdays but was just too tired yesterday and besides, I have nothing going today. I have been watching the weather channel this morning. The south is getting hit hard with tornadoes.

I need to go out to the Dollar General store here today and get some more breakfast bars. Those make a nice snack with my evening yogurt.

More later...

This is my daughter-in-law, Ginger's daughter and grandchild, Graclyn,  and of course, the baby's father.
Image may contain: 3 people, people smiling, people standing, shoes and outdoor
They are so neat! And a very cute baby.

Nancy came over abut 10:30 and wanted to go to lunch. That was fine. I had had breakfast very early and was ready for lunch if she was well...and for a change...she was well.  Afterward she came in for awhile and visited too.

After she left, I read the Reporter. It had Sue's obituary. And it mentioned that they were having family visiting this afternoon from 12:00PM until 8:00PM.  I also wondered if Leslie had ordered flowers for the funeral. I texted her about it and it was awhile before I got her answer. She asked me to drop by the Hasselman's Florist in Independence and get the flowers. I decided to go to the family visitation this afternoon and take the flowers with me. The flowers were lovely.

I did that. I had a chance to visit briefly with Kim, Johnna's daughter and Sam, Randy's adopted daughter.. Actually I got to visit with his other two daughters too. And I had taken the Reporter with me and asked Kim if she had seen it. She hadn't. I asked her if she would like to have it since I had it in the car. She did want it so I went out and got it for her.

I stopped in Independence and bought two more newspapers and took one of them to Alice and the other one I have saved for Bob.  I also stopped at the market and bought more stamps.

I got home about 3:30PM and sat and read the rest of the afternoon. I never did get the apartment cleaned. Maybe I will get it done in the morning.

It is 6:20PM now. At 7:00PM I will take my bath and at 9:00PM, I will go on to bed.

Thursday and A Good Nights Sleep

Scott called this morning. I was just laying in bed thinking about all that I had to do.We had a nice visit. Ginger had bought him a microwave for his office and he was taking it in so we didn't talk long.

I won't clean today. I will do that tomorrow.

I called Nancy and she was sick again..this time with both vomiting and diarrhea. Once more I encouraged her to make a doctor's appointment told her I would take her there. She wants to go to Melissa but I think she's in denial about her illness. I think she has something seriously wrong but you can't force someone to go to the doctor if they are afraid to find out what's wrong. I have told her I would take her anytime. She says she is going to try to get an appointment for the first of the week. But I have heard that before.

I read all morning and then had one of my Walmart meals for lunch. One of the cabinet doors had come loose and I went to the garage and got a screwdriver and screwed the screw in further and that fixed it.

John brought my flowerbed over this afternoon and put it where I want it for spring. I am so looking forward to spring here. As soon as April is over or toward the last of April I will go to the nursery and buy the flowers to put in it. John says he will bring me some pasture dirt to put in it to begin with and I will go to Orchelon's and buy some Miracle Grow dirt to finish the job of filling it.

I read all afternoon and then watched some Forensic Files that had recorded while I was on Morgan Street in Coffeyville.  Finally, the Schwans man came and brought me my chicken pot pies and breakfast burritos.

I watched the weather for awhile and then I turned the TV off and  read until bedtime. I took my bath and went to bed at 9:00PM.

Wednesday and A Trip to Neodesha

Yesterday's developments just pointed out to me once again how tenuous life really is.  Everything can change on a dime!

After yesterday and my small part in it, I was exhausted. Sue was one of my dearest friends as well as a member of our congregation. Last Sunday she had just said she wanted to come by Caney one day soon and pick me up and we would go to Bartlesville and have lunch. I told her to just call ahead so I would be sure to be home and I would love to go. Then two days later, she was dead. She was my age.

After everything that happened last evening, I decided to take a melatonin tablet so I could get to sleep. I slept well. I was just contemplating getting up when the phone rang. It was Scott, my youngest child calling from Nashville. He just wanted to visit while on his way to work, I told him about yesterday's developments. Not only had Johnna lost her mother but she had just lost her father just before Thanksgiving and her husband the year before that. No wonder she was bereft. We visited awhile and then he was at work and needed to go. It was good of him to call. The boys are very good about calling about once a week.

It is thundering and lightning here this morning and probably raining too. It's too dark to see out to check that out.

I am going to go watch the news and will get back to this later....

Leslie called me awhile ago. She had called the Independence Walmart store to get some chicken and potato salad to take to the family. They were out of boxes. So she called me and asked me to do that using the Coffeyville Walmart store. I did that. At 11:00AM, I will go over to the Walmart store in Coffeyville and pickup the chicken rolls and potato salad and take them to Neodesha to the family.

I got it all loaded into my car and took off for Neodesha.  It was pouring down rain part of the time. By the time I got to Sycamore, the rain had stopped and so  I got to Sue's home where the family had gathered and one of their guest helped me unload the food. I visited briefly with Johnna and her younger brother and then excused myself so they could eat together. They will meet with the funeral home at 4:00PM this afternoon and try to set a date for the funeral. She will stay in touch with those details.

Then I drove back to Independence and bought some frozen Walmart meals and some Braums yogurt and milk before coming home. I also bought gas at Miller Brothers there. As I was getting the gas, Nancy called. She is fine today and plans to go to Bible study at 5:30PM . She says she will drop by here before her Bible study.

More later...

Nancy did drop by and visited for awhile before her Bible study. She was much better.  I was very tired after bucking those strong winds all the way home from Neodesha  but I read until bedtime and then took my bath and went to bed at 9:00PM.

Tuesday and Hairdo Day

I will drive over to Coffeyville this morning and pick up Bob for breakfast. I hope Eggberts is open again. Last week they had plumbing problems and we had to eat breakfast at Brahms.
I slept well last night but woke up at 3:30AM. I got up and took my med and then did not take the melatonin.  I thought I would try to get back to sleep without it. That didn't work. Finally I got up at 5:00AM. and got myself ready for the day. I heard thunder last night and don't know whether it's still raining or not.. It's supposed to. It's too dark to see out right now. I will drink my Chai and drive over to Coffeyville when it begins to get light about 6:45AM.

I started to put in my hearing aid this morning and the end of the cord where the amplifier is located, broke off.  I will need to see Stan this morning too and get him to put a new one on.

So, first I went to Bob's to pick him up for breakfast, then to breakfast, then to Stan's office. I also want to vote when I get back to Caney. They vote today on the new swimming pool. They have a grant for 60% of the cost and the rest they want to raise with a 1/4 cent sales tax. If it passes, that will still be less then either Coffeyville's sales tax or Independence's sales tax.

It will be a busy day.  So more later...I want to go watch the weather.

I did get everything done this morning in Coffeyville and got back to Caney in time to vote. Later  I went over to visit Nancy who had been sick to her stomach again.

While there, Johnna called me to say she could not get a hold of my daughter, Leslie . The highway patrol had been to see Johnna and told her her mother had been killed in a head on collision just north of Caney here. Her mother, Sue, had been with two friends heading to Sedan to a doctor's appointment with one of Sue's friends and then they were going to go to Bartlesville and have lunch. A young man crossed the center line and hit them head on killing all of them. Johnna asked me if I would notify the congregation. She was distraught. She had just lost her father just before Thanksgiving and her husband had been murdered by a mental case last year and now she had lost her mother.  She could not reach Leslie because Leslie was on the phone. I texted Leslie and she had called Johnna back when she heard her messages. Leslie jumped in the car and went up to Neodesha to be with Johnna.  I came home and called the congregation. It was a catastrophe! Poor Johnna feels utterly bereft.  Johnna is one of our three pastors at church and Leslie is also one of them. Melissa and her husband have gone on a cruise to celebrate their anniversary. Melissa is our third pastor.

That killed the evening. I finally reached everyone. The County Chronicle had all the details. I copied their story into e-mail and sent the article to everyone in the congregation who had e-mail. The family is going to the funeral home today to make arrangements.  I took my bath and went to bed after that.

What a day!

Monday and Another Good Night's Sleep

I awoke at 6:00AM this morning after having a good night's sleep.  I decided the trick may be to not take the melatonin until I wake up in the night. I have no problem getting to sleep. My problem is getting back to sleep after waking up in the night. So I am going to take the melatonin at that point.

I stripped my bed early this morning and washed the bedding and my towels and underwear. After they were finished and dry, I remade the bed and put everything away.

I tried to call Nancy this morning but she must still be sleeping. It is 10:20AM but I think she sleeps later when she doesn't feel well. I didn't let it ring many times. I didn't want to wake her up. I need to go to Independence and get some more moisture emulsion from the Merle Norman store there. I was going to ask her to go along if she was well and up to it. I also have a few things on my grocery list. I can also go to their Walmart store. I have tried to get as much as possible at our Dollar General Store here but there are some things that can't be found there. My Merle Norman stuff is just one of those things.

More later...

I finally got hold of Nancy and she is sick to her stomach again. I told her what I had wanted and she would have gone with me if she hadn't been throwing up all morning. Her cousin, Dale, went to the drugstore to get something to settle her stomach. I don't know why she won't let me take her to the doctor. It has been months since all this started and she resists seeing a doctor about it.  I think she is in denial. It's obvious she is not going to get well until she finds of what is wrong and can be treated.  I can't do anything but encourage her to let me take her to the doctor. So far, that hasn't worked.

I did go on to Independence and got my moisture emulsion at the Merle Norman store and then went on to Walmart and bought $50.00 worth of groceries.  I drove by Juanita's house but so far Michele has not put it on the market. I assume it is now hers since her husband, Chet, died before Juanita did and he was to have inherited it.

More even later...

I decided to watch one of the programs I had recorded last night and was in the middle of that when Nancy came to visit.  She had recovered from her upset stomach and wanted to visit. I was happy to see her. I turned off the TV and we visited for a couple of hours.  It's 3:50PM now and I am just about to get back to my program. I ate one of my Schwans frozen dinner for lunch before Nancy showed up. I even had one of my ice cream bars.

I gave Nancy her coffeecake before she left.

More later..I am going to get back to that program. I stepped outside with Nancy when she left and it is lovely out there.  I hope that will be the case tomorrow when I go to Coffeyville to get my hair done.  My appointment is at 8:30AM tomorrow. I may meet Bob for breakfast first. I need to ask him if we are having breakfast tomorrow.

More even later...

It's 7:30PM and I have had my bath and will not go to bed until 9:00PM. I have been reading and will read until bedtime since there's nothing on TV that I am interested in this evening.

Sunday and Coffeecake Again

I slept well last night but woke up at 4:00AM. I finally just got up since I had had plenty of sleep.  It turns out that since I had forgotten to change the clocks, it was actually 5:00AM, my regular time to get up. I dressed and got myself ready for church. Then after I had eaten breakfast, I changed the clocks and baked my coffeecake for the church school class. I have yet to ice it. It is still cooling.

I will leave a little earlier for church today and go into Coffeyville to the bank. I have run out of money early this week.  I will need some more for the next week and lunch today. I spent what I had left on lunch with Gay and the girls on Friday. And Tuesday, Toni wants to do my color and cut.

I had texted Scott last evening. I noticed Nashville was under storm watches.  He said they were fine but I was glad to hear from him even in text. I heard from Keith night before last. He is very good about staying in touch at least once a week. They were concerned about their old dashhound It had been sick and was very old. They had some tests run and and decided not o have it put down but just to baby it along.

I still have plenty of time. It is only 7:15AM now.

I left about 8:00AM since I intended to go to the bank in Coffeyville. I got there in plenty of time and got my cash for the week. Then I went on out to the church to open the church. I didn't expect a large congregation this morning. One family was going to be gone on a cruise this week, my daughter and her husband were at work week at our campgrounds helping to finish putting the porch on the dining hall over there. The little grandgirls were on spring break and were in Topeka visiting their other grandparents.

I brought home plenty of coffeecake and took some of it to my neighbor, Alice. I will offer some to Nancy and eat some with my oatmeal tomorrow.

I have the newsletters out on my mailbox ready to be picked up tomorrow by the mailman.

I called Nancy and asked her if she wanted some of that coffeecake. She has had another  episode of diarrhea and has had it all afternoon. However she wants to have lunch one day this week when she is feeling better and she does want the coffeecake.

I read most of the afternoon and watched recorded TV shows.  At 7:00PM, I took my bath and got ready for bed but didn't go to bed until shortly after 9:00PM.
